It's Here! Donatella Versace and Jonathan Anderson Present the New Versus

You can't say Donatella Versace doesn't know how to throw a party.

You can't say Donatella Versace doesn't know how to throw a party. Last night, she and designer Jonathan Anderson took over the Lexington Avenue Armory in New York City to present the new Versus Versace and JW Anderson's first capsule collection for the brand.

But this wasn't just any product launch. Versace managed to fill the space with everyone from industry insiders like Leigh Lezark, Eniko Mihalik, and Harriet Mays Powell, but she also drew stars like Heidi Klum, Darren Criss, and Taylor Momsen.

All of them assembled around a big black box in the middle of the room. When illuminated, the box was revealed to be a backstage area enclosed by translucent panels of plastic. From there, models walked down runways on either side of the space before performances by musicians Angel Haze, Dead Sara, and Grimes.

And while no one walked away with pieces from the collection, guests did get a special treat at the end of the party: a parcel of differently flavored doughnut holes served as the goody bag.

A look at all the pieces that came down the runway, plus a few snaps from the party, here in the gallery.

On Tuesday, virtually everyone with an Internet connection and a Google+ account will be able to hang out with Donatella Versace.

The designer, who will celebrate the launch of her first Versus capsule collection in New York on Wednesday, will give her fans a first look at the clothes during a Google+ Hangout that will start tomorrow at 4 p.m. EDT. In a video teasing the virtual event, Versace explained that she chose the occasion for her first Google+ Hangout because she wants "everybody to be a part of the process."

Fashion blogger Jay Strut will play host, and the brand promises that "influential bloggers and models from around the world" will also take to their webcams to participate in the online talk. Versace will unveil the full collection — created with the young British label J.W. Anderson — at a party in New York on Wednesday night.

Christopher Kane Is Leaving Versus, but Not For Balenciaga

After six seasons of designing Versace's secondary label, Versus, Christopher Kane is leaving the brand to focus on his own line.

After six seasons of designing Versace's secondary label, Versus, Christopher Kane is leaving the brand to focus on his own line.

Going forward, Versus will serve as a sort of design laboratory through which Donatella Versace will collaborate with "young designers, stylists, and creatives from different walks of life" that will produce capsule collections and limited-edition product lines.

"I am excited about the new Versus strategy, but the time has come to dedicate all my focus to the future of the Christopher Kane label," Kane told WWD.

"I want to thank Christopher for his contribution to Versus over six seasons, during which I have been able to appreciate his extraordinary talent," said Versace in a statement. "Working with young talented people, and see them grow and develop as I have seen Christopher do over these years, is one of the most rewarding parts of my work. I wish him all the best for the development of his own line. He will always have my total support."

News of Kane's departure comes just two days after he denied rumors that he will replace Nicolas Ghesquière, the outgoing creative director of Balenciaga. On Saturday, French newspaper Le Nouvel Observateur reported that Kane would start at Balenciaga on Dec. 1. On the same day, a Kane spokeswoman told WWD, "Rumors surrounding Christopher Kane's appointment as creative director of Balenciaga are unfounded."

Versus Spring 2013

If you're going to have a fashion show on a Friday night, you might as well make it a party — and you might as well offer up clothing made for a rollicking good time.
Versus Spring 2013 | Runway

If you're going to have a fashion show on a Friday night, you might as well make it a party — and you might as well offer up clothing made for a rollicking good time.

With a glowing neon runway and a live performance by Beth Ditto — complete with backup dancers — the vibe was certainly in place. And though the first looks out the gate — zippered blazers, miniskirts, and flippy little dresses in vivid dahlia pink — were certainly hot enough to ignite a little flame, it wasn't until the bold intarsia knits, flower power prints, and Twister dot motifs appeared that the fun really began. In Lego hues, with clubby '60s silhouettes, and adorned with oversized plastic chains, they made for quite the joyous display — and proved that Christopher Kane and Donatella Versace definitely know how to keep a mood light.

Though on opposite ends of the globe, Marion Cotillard and Jaime King were both feeling the same fresh color combo: peach and yellow. Marion posed for the Cannes cameras in a peach chiffon Dior frock and yellow Versus pumps ($695), while Jaime opted for a peach Porter Grey sheath and yellow cap-toe Aldo pumps with an Amanda Pearl clutch ($1,295) at the Hanky Panky for Hello Kitty launch in NYC. Versus Fall 2012

Versus Fall 2012

>> Donatella Versace and Christopher Kane tapped the rough-and-tumble youths of London's Camden Town for their Fall 2012 Versus collection. "The skinheads, the glitter, the acid tie-dye," Kane described backstage. And sure enough, there was a grittiness to the collection — and it was evident from the moment the first model appeared on the runway clad in a leather-sleeved jacket. Colors were dark and moody — burgundy, violet, and acid yellow — and everything from the skintight pants to the short little dresses was printed in psychedelic graphics or slashed-and-laced with grommets. "She's a rebellious, tough, angry, modern girl," Kane explained.

Versus Fall 2012

For Versus Fall 2012, Donatella Versace and Christopher Kane took it to the streets of London, more specifically to the Camden underground scene.

For Versus Fall 2012, Donatella Versace and Christopher Kane took it to the streets of London, more specifically to the Camden underground scene. Translation: it's all about the tough girl with a confident punk attitude and a penchant for grittier, trippier silhouettes. Between the bright tie-dye prints and rocker-chick lace-up minidresses, we could tell that Versus was honing in on its playful spirit and younger edge. While the collection offered a solid lineup of minis, over-the-knee leather boots, shredded-front tees, and general punk-appropriate attire, there were also some super-structured leather outerwear that struck us as totally wearable, no matter your personal style preference. Although Donatella and Christopher combined rougher elements — rock music, teenage angst, and more — the result can be easily transitioned into a sexier cocktail look. See more Versus details below.

  • Trends: Bright tie-dye-meets-ikat prints, lace-up minis, strong leather silhouettes, and rounded shoulders.
  • Colors: Fuchsia, turquoise, yellow, black, burgundy, and midnight blue.
  • Key Piece: The punk-rock minidresses that featured sequins, psychedelic prints, or lace-up details.
  • Accessories: Boxy purses, over-the-knee leather rocker boots, and tough biker boots with colorful piping.
  • Who Would Wear It: Ladies who aren't afraid of showing a little skin with more than just a little attitude, like Heidi Klum, Diane Kruger, and Mila Kunis.
