Variety is the spice of life and that is true when it comes to veggies too. Presentation is important and shredded carrots seem exotic and interesting compared to the commonplace sliced preparation. Here are some of my favorite kitchen gadgets for creating fun and enticing veggies.

When it comes to losing weight, we all find different tricks that help motivate us to reach our goals. Some may seem a little bizarre, but it doesn't mean they don't work. Here's a weird one for you.

When you were a child, were you encouraged to be a member of the "Clean Plate Club"? Entrance to the club required that you finish every bit of food on your plate because "kids were starving in Africa." Or "India."

We all love to snack, but sometimes noshing on food in between meals adds up to tons of unnecessary calories. So I've discovered this little tip that not only prevents me from raiding the fridge, but it also helps hinder cavities. I brush my teeth and then rinse with fluoride.

We've all been there. You had to stay late at work for some meeting and by the time you make it home, you're beyond starving. You reach for anything quick you can eat, (which is usually not the healthiest thing), and you end up devouring way more calories faster than you would if you were just slightly hungry.

Find yourself with an empty bag of chips after a night of must-see TV? You're not alone.
MSNBC recently reported on a new study that found that consumers who have been recently reminded of their own mortality on TV actually
eat more and spend more.

Healthy snacks are great for noshing. Nuts, dried fruit, air-popped popcorn, low-fat cheese, and whole grain crackers are all nutritious foods, but they still contain calories. Binging on heath food is still binging, and it isn't going to help you reach your weight goal.

If you've been buying junk food in small packages in an effort to lose a few, you may be missing the mark.
Two new
studies have found that people actually may consume more calories when the portions and packages are smaller. The idea is if there were a king-size candy bar sitting in front of you, most of us would pass on it.
Vitamin C might not keep you from catching a cold, but not getting an adequate amount of the vitamin can keep you from burning fat.
A study from
Arizona State found that folks with low-blood concentrations of vitamin C, who walked on treadmills for a 60-minute session, burned 25 percent less fat than other participants with adequate amounts of C. Fortunately, a simple dose of vitamin C remedied the lackluster fat-burning potential of the participants.

One way to make sure you don't overeat is by slowing down so that your stomach has time to register that it's full. There are plenty of tricks to keep yourself from scarfing down dinner, such as
eating with your non-dominant hand.
Here's an even easier one: Make sure you put down your fork between every bite.
