Jessica Alba on Her Hollywood Career: "I Approached It Like a Business"

Jessica Alba might have started her career in Hollywood, but the entrepreneur, whose brand, The Honest Company, is estimated to be worth $1.7 billion, says she's always been business-minded. In an interview for Self magazine's October 2015 issue, Jessica admits, "I approached Hollywood like a business. I was very calculated. I wanted to be treated like a guy; I wanted to put asses in seats. I saved my money, invested wisely and marketed myself. I've been building my own personal brand over time."

Her goal was always to start her own company beyond acting, but she says it wasn't until she found herself pregnant with her daughter Honor that the idea for a healthy personal care brand hit her: "I was horrified by the realities around the use of chemicals, and also the link that these chemicals have to a lot of illnesses, from obesity to lung disease to cancer, allergies, eczema — all of it. I was bringing this little person into the world and I thought, I want her to be healthy." And, even though Jessica also admits she felt she wasn't "smart" and like "an impostor," she has proven she's a business powerhouse and grown to be the boss lady we all hope to be.
