What Tone It Up's Katrina Scott Wants All New Moms to Know About Postbaby Weight

Losing weight after giving birth isn't easy — even for powerhouse fitness experts like Katrina Scott, one half of the duo behind Tone It Up. Just a few months after becoming a mom for the first time, Katrina sat down with POPSUGAR at a Kohl's event to share what it's really like to get back to working out postbaby.

"Everyone was like, 'Oh, you're going to snap back so quick' or 'Oh, you're going to get your body back so quick,' and I'm thinking, I never lost my body. It's still here," Katrina told POPSUGAR.

The pressure to get back to your prepregnancy weight is real — and ridiculous. For one thing, what works for one woman doesn't work for everyone, Katrina said. "I didn't lose weight in the first six weeks just from breastfeeding. That didn't happen for me," she explained. "I need movement. I need exercise. That's just how my body works." She said she didn't notice a difference in her weight until she started reintroducing regular workouts — something she also pointed out to her followers on Instagram.

Then there's the other tricky thing about new motherhood: learning how to reorganize your days now that you have a little one to think about. "Quick workouts during nap time and timing everything perfectly is amazing," Katrina said. "So if you can do a little nap time workout, whether it's like 15, 20 minutes, and if they do wake up, knowing that, 'OK, I'm going to finish this later.' It's not all lost."

Most of all, Katrina said she hopes other moms will be a little kinder to themselves and not let pressure to look a certain way or hit a certain weight get to them.

"It took nine months to build this amazing body that created a human, just be patient that it might take nine months or more [to get back in shape], especially if you're balancing being a new parent," Katrina said.
