Jillian Michaels Says to Avoid This Habit at the Gym If You Want to See Results

We know it can be frustrating to put time and effort into your workouts only to not see progress. Or maybe you noticed results after a few months of work, but suddenly hit a plateau. While some exercise is better than nothing at all, you could be doing yourself a disservice if you do the same workouts every day: the same spinning class, the same sprints on the treadmill, or the same five arm exercises.

"Anything repetitive is bad," Jillian Michaels, fitness expert and creator of the My Fitness by Jillian Michaels app, told POPSUGAR. "Your body adapts and stops progressing." She also explained that doing the same thing over and over again is more likely to cause overuse injuries.

Even though it's important to find an exercise you like, work on switching up your workouts to keep your body guessing. If you're lifting weights, focus on your upper body one day and your lower body the next. For cardio, try alternating among spinning, jogging, the rowing machine, or a HIIT class. It's important to have multiple workouts in your arsenal to really see progress.
