After Months of Fast Food and Drinking, This Photo Inspired a Biggest Loser Coach to Go Keto

She's a celebrity trainer and a fitness icon, but just like us, Jen Widerstrom lost sight of her goals. The former Biggest Loser coach recently took to Instagram to share side-by-side photos of herself that proved to be the wake-up call she needed to get back on track after "a very chaotic six months."

"For the first time I visually see how that chaos as reflected in my eating habits and mental health," Jen wrote. "With a huge amount of stress alongside many things to be thankful for, I have been drinking a lot, eating fast food, and to be honest, been mentally checked out."

In times of stress, we can fall off track or revert back to old negative habits, but Jen is proving that all it takes is a moment of clarity — or, in this instance, a photo of her stomach — to confront the things that have been holding us back. After this realization, Jen explained that she has two choices: she can take control and work on her mental health or she can continue further into this detrimental spiral. And guess what? She's going with option number one.

"To see the distention and my gut is the physical evidence that I've clearly been a been avoiding handling what I've been feeling and after knowing all of you for so long, I know you've been there too. But it stops NOW," Jen wrote passionately. "I have the decision to shift my headspace and be better bc I know better or to go into f*ck it mode, give in, and avoid what scares me longer."

For the next 17 days, Jen will try the popular and somewhat controversial ketogenic diet for the first time. "I've never attempted a keto system before, so I figured it was about time I ran myself through it so I could give you all honest feedback about it," she wrote in another post. The high-fat and low-carb keto diet has been associated with weight loss and going cold turkey on carbs. We can't wait to see how Jen likes the keto diet!
