The best part about baking cookies is eating the cookie dough straight from the bowl. But as we've all heard, it's not ideal to eat raw eggs and raw flour, no matter how delicious it is mixed with sugar, butter, vanilla, and chocolate chips. To fill that void and have a cookie dough alternative that's safe to eat, Deux created its own line of vegan, plant-based, and gluten-free cookie dough.

To be real, I don't really bake anyway (minus the banana bread craze circa March 2020), so I don't usually have raw cookie dough to snack on. So when Deux reached out to send me some flavors of its cookie dough, I was excited to have some to finally spoon into. The best part about this cookie dough is that you can also use it to make actual cookies, which comes in clutch when I just want to make one or two and not a whole dozen. (I save the rest of the cookie dough in the jar to eat later.)

I tried the Brownie Batter, Chocolate Chip, Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip, Birthday Cake, and Ginger Doodle flavors. Of all of them, the Brownie Batter was my favorite; it had a chocolatey richness that reminded me of real brownie batter. Plus, the Brownie Batter is enhanced with vitamin C. My second favorite was the Chocolate Chip; aside from a firmness and a slight aftertaste, I couldn't tell much of a difference between the Deux version and the leading pre-made frozen cookie dough. I can vouch for the other three flavors: the Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip definitely feeds my craving for when I want a chocolate peanut butter cup, and I'm not usually a birthday-cake flavor fan, but the Deux Birthday Cake was good without being overly sweet. I loved the spiciness of the Ginger Doodle, and I can't wait to bake up a batch of ginger Deux cookies for the holidays.

Since I've been trying to eat mostly gluten-free, the fact that all the cookie-dough flavors are gluten-free is an added bonus. Although each flavor is also enhanced with some additional nutrients from maca and elderberry, I wouldn't eat this cookie dough as a replacement for your daily vitamins. However, if you're in the market for a sweet treat that's vegan, gluten-free, and only has nine grams of sugar or less per serving (I love having a spoonful before bed), then Deux is exactly what you're looking for.
