I'm the last person on earth ready to admit that summer is almost over, but I can only go so long pretending I don't know how to read a calendar. When the warmer months start to fade and I finally face reality, I always find myself switching up my skin-care routine, rotating in products that can help me treat the hyperpigmentation and dark spots I've inevitably collected during my hours spent at the beach and in the sun. One of my favorite ways to do this is with vitamin C.

The ingredient is perfect for protecting skin from environmental damage and improving hyperpigmentation, and without it, I'd be lost. Recently, I started using the Fount Society Brightening Vitamin C Oil ($66, originally $78), and it's been a total game changer. Not only does it have immediate brightening effects, but it also helped get rid of the texture I was experiencing on both of my cheeks for months.

Keep scrolling to read my full review of the Fount Society Brightening Vitamin C Oil and find out why it's landed a permanent spot in my skin-care routine.

What I Like About the Fount Society Brightening Vitamin C Oil

I have dry, acne-prone skin, so I'm extremely careful whenever I introduce new products — especially skin care — into my routine. If a formula doesn't work for me, I usually know within a few days because I experience breakouts fairly quickly. I was initially nervous about testing this one out since it's a vitamin C oil, and I've found that oil-based products can occasionally exacerbate my acne, but that wasn't the case with this.

In fact, the first time I used it, I actually loved how the oil texture felt on my skin and that it instantly gave me a noticeable glow. It's also really hydrating, which has been great for my dry skin, especially during the summer months when the beach makes it look and feel extra dehydrated. Plus, while I've noticed that some vitamin C products take some "getting used to," this one was very gentle and easy to use from the beginning.

This vitamin C oil has been part of my skin-care routine for a little over a month, and one of the biggest benefits I've noticed is how it's helped even out the texture I was experiencing on both of my cheeks. I had what felt like tiny acne bumps on either side of my mouth for months, and although no one could see them, I could feel them, which was beyond frustrating. I tried numerous things to get rid of it, but nothing seemed to work until I added this product to the rotation. Now, although I still occasionally feel one or two bumps, for the most part, the texture has completely gone away.

How to Use the Fount Society Brightening Vitamin C Oil

The brand recommends pumping a dime-size amount of the vitamin C oil into your hands and massaging it into your skin as you would a normal serum, then finishing things off with moisturizer. I like to use it twice a day: once in the morning and once at night after cleansing. I let my face dry completely before I apply one pump over my face and neck. During the day, I follow up with moisturizer and SPF, and at night, I stick with just moisturizer. On the nights I use retinol, which is usually twice a week, I skip this product altogether.

What to Consider Before Trying the Fount Society Brightening Vitamin C Oil

Since this product is a vitamin C oil, if you're someone who isn't a fan of oil-based products, this probably isn't for you. While it does melt into my skin nicely, it leaves behind a glowy sheen, and if you already have oily skin and don't want to exacerbate the look, I'd probably skip this one. (If that's the case, you could consider using it as a final step in place of moisturizer.)

However, if you're someone with sensitive skin who has had issues with vitamin C products being too "intense" in the past, I'd suggest giving this one a try, because it's one of the most gentle options I've tested.
