Long considered a super food, another benefit of blueberries was discovered in a University of Michigan lab. New research found a diet rich in blueberries may help diminish belly fat. Abdominal fat has been linked with both heart disease and diabetes, even in folks with a normal BMI. Although the study was performed on rats, the beneficial decrease of belly fat occurred with both of high- and low-fat diets. More research is needed on humans, but these findings back up data from earlier studies on the benefits of blueberries on male populations at risk for heart disease.

Even after they are frozen, blueberries maintain most of their nutritional benefits. The antioxidants found in the berries, which create their rich hue as well, are not affected by freezing. Frozen blueberries will lose a bit, less than 20 percent, of their vitamin E content as well as a bit of beta carotene. This means you can add blueberries to your diet all year, be they fresh or frozen. Remember though, the darker the berry the more antioxidants it will provide.

love me some blueberries.
1Oh, poo. I've never been a huge fan of blueberries. I guess I'll throw some in my oatmeal in the morn.
2But blueberries have to flavor.
I lack the gene that allows me to taste the flavor of blueberries so it's like eating mushy flavorless cardboard.
boo...doomed to have belly fat.
3Love blueberries! Toss them in my yogurt all the time
4I am pretty sure a healthy diet in general will banish belly fat - especially, when it's coupled with an exercise regime!
5I LOVE blueberries and have even more reasons to keep them in my dietary rotation
6Wackdoodle, sorry to hear that.
I do love me some blueberries, esp. with greek yogurt!
7yes! Blueberries, Kashi Crunch and Fage is my favorite all time breakfast
8Bonus! I love blueberries and knew they were good for me, but didn't know about the belly fat busting.
9Yum...no wonder I've been craving blueberries...it's a shame I can't find decent ones at a decent price now!
10For the most part, I just adore blueberries. Once in a while I get a batch that taste pretty awful, or go mushy right away, but the firm ones are delish!
11I love blueberries. Right now, all I can find is frozen blueberries and I totally load up on them.
12Oooh, yum, Tasty and belly-shrinking? Awesome.
13I love blueberries, hate belly fat.
14I have been addicted to frozen berries. For the last 8 months or so, I have been buying bags and bags of frozen blueberries, raspberries, and blackberries and eating them plain while they are frozen - I treat them as mini Popsicles! A million times better than ice cream.
But I haven't really noticed any belly fat reduction....same old me.
15ahh yes. another fad.
16I used to hate blueberries until my bf showed me the light when he asked to make a blueberry compote for a shortcake. Now I love eating them as they are, fresh, just a lil wet from washing. Love how they pop in your mouth.
