Often touted as the hot new superfood, açaí (pronounced ah-sigh-ee) is a delicious fruit harvested from palm trees in the Amazon. The boldly flavored berry tastes sort of like chocolate-covered cherries, and its health benefits are just as enticing. The pulp is packed with antioxidants — more than you get from blueberries, pomegranates, or red grapes — plus lots of fiber, amino acids, and heart-healthy fatty acids.

According to Dr. Nicholas Perricone, who calls açaí one of the top 10 superfoods, the antioxidants in this "energy fruit" help combat premature aging, while the "almost perfect essential amino acid complex" aids in muscle regeneration and the healthy fats help digestion. To find out how to get it in your diet, read more.
You can't just walk into a grocery store or even a farmers' market and buy açaí berries, but there are plenty of yummy methods for consuming this fruit. Most common are juices, such as those from Bossa Nova and Sambazon, which combine açaí with other fruits. The berries are also mixed into smoothies: Jamba Juice now offers an açaí blend, and Sambazon sells smoothie packs so you can make your own. At the Newsroom Cafe in LA not long ago, I devoured a delicious bowl of granola mixed with some sort of açaí-yogurt smoothie that was absolutely delicious. How about you? Have you tried açaí? If so, tell me about your experience with this super tasty superfood below.

I have the smoothie packets. I got them at whole foods.
1my friend has some acai sherbert type stuff that was good. Why can't we just buy the berries?
2Oh wow...sounds pretty awesome.
3I've been looking for a way to get this stuff for a while now. Thanks! I've heard it is the super-food, anti-cancer and anti-aging, two things most important to me!
4I tried funkymonkey snacks...banana acai flavored. They are freeze dried fruits...you can find them at whole foods are amazon
5or*** amazon oops
6I've tried açaí juice, I think it was the Bossa Nova brand. It was really good--an interesting flavor. I would recommend it! I also wondered why you can't just buy the berries?
7I drink an açaí juice blend concentrate called Mona Vie. Nature's Path also has a granola açaí apple cereal that is quite tasty, which I find at Whole Foods. Açaí powder is the last ingredient, so I am not sure how much is in there, but it's awfully yummy.
8i love acai, and am obsessed with anti-oxidants these days... i love the rich flavor, it almost has a cocoa-y taste to me.
hobee's restaurant used to have an acai bowl, made with sambazon acai berry (puree i think?). not suere if they still have it. it was really good though. i've had the bossa nova brand of acai juice as well and really liked it. i just can't get over the price- $3 a bottle is too pricey for me.
i try to drink acai green tea made by The Republic of Tea every day (http://www.republicoftea.com/templates/detail.asp?navID=1824). the taste is great, really fruity.
9My husband loves acai juice and I think he even bought some acai chocolates once.
10I've tried the juice a few times and just don't like it. It's weird cuz I love spirulina which has a very distinct taste.. I can't even describe as "good", but I love it. But acai juice tastes icky to me.
LOL I was pronoucing it ALL wrong.......
11I was saying AH-KI-EEE
I'm a loser LOL
I've been pronouncing it wrong! Now I'm really tempted to go buy some, though I've never seen it in supermarkets. My friend who lives in Hawaii loves acai. Chocolate covered cherry taste? I'm sold.
12I tried this is the form of Mona Vie as well as the Bossa Nova juice...I rather like the taste, and the antioxidant benefits are an added bonus! It's not cheap, but I think it's worth it.
I try to avoid having to actually say "acai" as much as possible because I can never seem to say it right!
13So how much does it cost to ship them from Brazil? Is that good if we are worrying about being 'green' and stuff?
14Acai doesn't have much of a "berry" taste to me. It has a very grainy palm tree taste. The taste translates into what sucking on a palm frond would be like.
15I love the Bossa Nova juices.
16Acai by itself isnt sweet and not like a super yummy blueberry, but for the antioxidant power it packs, Im willing to deal! Source for you all:

17I love the taste! My school has a smoothie place and I get it everyday, I'm not sure about the energy boosting or antioxidant claims, but it sure is tasty for an afternoon treat.
I did a little bit of acai research, and the berries are only harvested during certain times of the year so they freeze dry them. Also, the berries perish soon after they are harvested, so that explains why we never see them in berry form.
18This sounds awesome!
19Mmmm. One of my favorite treats in our old city was a Raspberry Acai sorbet from an organic ice cream store.
20Don't "researchers" keep finding new superfoods? In fact I just read that Chia seeds were the new superfood (Yes the seeds from Chia Pets). It's just a matter of time until a new one is discovered...

21no whole foods nearby...V8 fusion acai mixed berry is great, and available in supermarkets.
22I'd like to find out how you can get the berries sent to your home. I drink smoothies for breakfast and acai sounds like the perfect drink to wake up with.
23Throw a banana, an orange, some coconut juice, strawberries and acai into your blender...add ice and I'll bet it would taste fine.
24I'm hoping that the world chooses Acai Berry to be the newest flavor of Jelly Belly!

Acai Berries are so deliciously awesome!
I love the juice...what I don't love is the total sweetness in it. I usually get some sparkling water and cut it and its very refreshing that way.
26I devoured a delicious bowl of granola mixed with some sort of açaí-yogurt smoothie that was absolutely delicious.
