DrSugar Answers: Pelvic Stress Fracture and Sex?

DrSugar is in the house and answering your questions.

Dear DrSugar,
I am getting married and going on my honeymoon in less than a month. Yay! I just got diagnosed with a stress fracture of the inferior pubic ramus, presumably from too much running. Boo! My doc told me to limit my exercise to swimming or the arm cycle machine at the gym for at least the next four weeks. My concern is, since it is that my pubic bone that has the stress fracture, will I be able to have sex with my fiancé/husband or will that hurt the bone too?
Broken Bride

To see what DrSugar has to say about this unfortunately placed fracture,

Married? You Still Need to Get Physical

You Still Need to Get Physical" class="image xlarge inline left" />
Once the honeymoon is over, you are going to need to take a break from all those thank-you notes. Settling into married life, does not mean settling onto the couch. You still need to get some exercise, so here are some suggestions on exercising as a couple.

Does Exercising Ever Mix With Honeymoons?

But are relaxing and exercising mutually exclusive? If you're not taking an adventure honeymoon, would you (or did you) exercise on your honeymoon?

I did a lot of scuba diving, but I also did a lot of lounging on the beach. I am curious to know what you think, what you did on your honeymoon, or what you are planning or dreaming to do on your honeymoon of the future.

Adventure Honeymoon Ideas

After all the stress of the big day, the bride and groom get to continue celebrating with a honeymoon. Why not make your first trip together an adventure? Get to know your new spouse even better when faced with new and exciting situations. Here are my ideas for some adventure honeymoons.

How to Deal With the Buffet at a Wedding Reception

It is June and wedding season in is in full bloom. Weddings are fun-filled events, but beware of the buffet. It is all too easy to pile the calories onto one little plate. Here are a few suggestions on how to survive with the buffet table.

Survey the Table: Don't start at the beginning of the table and take one of everything the buffet has to offer. Give the table a once over and pick out the healthiest options. Put those options on your plate.

Easy on the Drinks: Alcoholic drinks are surprisingly high in calories. Plus they diminish your willpower, making it harder for you to make wise decisions.

Drink Plenty of Water: By all means toast with a glass of bubbly, but stick to water for the rest of the evening. It is refreshing, zero calories, and might just make you feel more full.

Walk the Line Once: Don't go back for seconds. Just don't. You want to save room for cake, right?

Avoid Hors d'oeuvre: Starters tend to be high in calories. It seems like food eaten off a napkin doesn't really count; but it does. Go for the crudités – feel no need to limit your consumption of these raw veggies. For dipping sauce, on the other hand, keep a light tough.

Stop When You're Full: Sometimes we all need to be reminded for the obvious. When you are full, stop eating. That is the best way to not over indulge. Just think how light you will feel on the dance floor.

How do you deal with the buffet table at any event? Share your advice in the comments section below.

Don't forget top check out all the wedding fun on IDoSugar.

A Striptease Bachelorette Party: Cool or Not?

You could always skip the male stripper and have all your party guests learn some stripper moves of their own with striptease dance class. These days, stripper aerobics is super popular and could help prepare the bride to be for her wedding night, but would this type of party be going beyond some of the guests' comfort zone? Is pushing the sexy envelope a good thing to do for a bachelorette party?

Namaste For the Big Day: Yoga For Weddings

If you're planning a wedding-related party, anything from an engagement party to a bachelorette bash, why not do something a little different? Since weddings are pretty stressful, everyone will appreciate a party that'll help release some of the tension and anxiety. I'm talking about a Yoga Party, and it's sure to encourage some calmness, self-reflection, and emotional renewal, which every bride and bridesmaid need.

If you don't know of any Yoga instructors in your area, or if you happen to be traveling elsewhere for the party, why not hire someone from Yoga For Weddings? They offer special event packages so you can customize a bridal shower or bachelorette party. Currently, they have teachers in California, Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Illinois, New York, and Oregon. It may be just the thing if you're not into a night of strippers and barhopping.

If you're looking for more Yoga in your life, you don't have to stop at just one session. Yoga For Weddings also offers packages of six or 12 classes, or six months of classes — for yourself, you and the groom, or for you and your entire bridal party. It's a great way to stay fit, healthy, and centered in the time leading up to your special day.

Head to IDoSugar for more wedding coverage.

Engagement Party: Garden Games

There are so many parties leading up to a wedding, but they all need not be formal, sit-down affairs. I propose (pun intended!) a garden party to celebrate your upcoming marriage. This way you can play games instead of just standing around drinking glass of champagne after glass of champagne trying to make small talk with your future aunt-in-law's third husband.

These simple lawn games are a great way for guests from the different parts of both of your lives to mix and mingle.

Bocce Ball: Lawn bowling fits in perfectly at a garden party. You can hone your aim and skill as you try to hit the pallina. Here are the rules to bocce ball, so you can be prepared for your next match.

Badminton: Anyone can play badminton and it is sure to cause a bunch of belly laughs as folks hop around trying to hit the slow floating birdie.

Croquet: One thing I love about croquet is that you can easily play the game wearing a skirt. Remember Heathers? Here are the rules of croquet if you need a refresher course.

Volleyball: Kick the action up a notch or two with a volleyball game or tournament. Since volleyball is more athletic than the other games mentioned, you should definitely include information on your invites that the game will be played and the guests interested in playing should bring appropriate attire.

Do you have a favorite garden party game? Share it in the comments section below.

You all know that I think it's important to have a game plan when headed to the gym. It will certainly work your arms and there is now a printable version so you can take it to the gym or use at home!
Here's a great series of exercises to tone and work your entire back. Perfect for getting you ready for your wedding or the beach!

Get Your Back Ready To Bare: Skin Edition

Plunging necklines are giving way to backless dresses. Spring and Summer both promise many backless fashions for showing off your toned back, and wedding dresses are not excluded from this trend.

If you are working out vigorously to get a toned back for you wedding, I say more power to you! Don't be dissuaded from sweating by the unfortunate side effect of working out – breaking out in places you would never think of and rarely see yourself. I am talking about the back. There are ways to avoid this dreadful side effect of shaping up.

Here are my suggestions:

Make sure your bra and your shirt are made of fabric that wicks the sweat away from your body. Cotton, in this instance, is not your friend. I like the Trilogy Bra by Title Nine Sports.

If your routine includes cardio followed by strength training, change your shirt and bra in between. This might seem like a pain, but can seriously help prevent blemishes. Wipe or rinse (much more complicated mid workout) your back before putting on your fresh clothes.

There are a few other things you can do so just

DVD Review: The Wedding Workout

If you're going to be walking down the aisle you're probably in serious planning mode. One DVD that will fit right into your frame of mind is The Wedding Workout from Women's Health. Not only does it provide a great workout, but it's one DVD that let's you plan exactly how you want to do your workouts and when.

The DVD is divided into several sections by body parts – there is: upper body, abs and core, lower body, and cardio. You can do the workout in a prebuilt schedule, which separates parts of the body each day of the week with one rest day, or you can create your own workout. You can also decide how heavily you want to focus on the upper or lower body (i.e. strapless dress versus hip-hugging dress). I just tried the prebuilt schedule and feel like I got a good workout. I didn't realize until I finished working out that all the exercise routines are the same, and you simply repeat the same moves on different days. This means if you're doing lower body on Monday and Wednesday those workouts will be exactly the same and this might increase the boredom factor of working out with a DVD. Furthermore, all warm-ups and cool-downs are the same each day of the week, making this part my least favorite aspect of the DVD. But if you can mentally get over the repetition, you will get a good physical workout.

You do need a pair of light dumbbells for the upper body, core, and abs portion and an exercise mat would make the whole thing a little more comfortable. The lower-body portion is heavy in squats and lunges — my legs were literally shaking — so if you have bad knees you should be careful or opt out. And as with all DVDs, I feel like the cardio is not sufficient enough so I would supplement with jogs outside and sessions on the elliptical.

Fit's Tip: The bonus segments that teach how to walk in heels, nutrition, and stripping 101 were unnecessary — I'd skip them altogether.

Wedding Planning Frenzy: Plan Time For Yourself Too

The details of planning your wedding can become overwhelming. While you are planning all your meetings with the various parties involved, from caterers to future in-laws, make sure to schedule some time for yourself. And make some of that precious time workout time. All forms of exercise, from lifting weights, to running, to yoga, requires deep breathing and deep breathing will help you relax and burn off some of the tension induced by all those wedding details.

I think it is important to take care of yourself while taking care of the business at hand. You can even ask your soon-to-be-spouse to partake in some fun fitness activity with you. You can spend time together that doesn't involve seating charts or china patterns.

Take out your calendar now and pencil in your workouts. Better yet, write them ink and think of them as meetings you just cannot cancel. After all, isn’t the bride the most important member of the wedding?

Be sure to check out iDoSugar for more wedding-related ideas.

Happily Married, Happily Healthy

If you're looking to lower your blood pressure then you just may want to tie the knot. Just make sure, though, that he's the right one.

Overall, research has found that happily married people scored four points lower on the blood pressure readings than single adults. The study also found that blood pressure among married people — especially those in happy marriages — dipped more during sleep than in single people. Here's the kicker though. The study also found that unhappily married adults have higher blood pressure than both happily married and single adults.

So if you're walking down the aisle in the near future (or if you're already married), keep your marriage healthy by encouraging eating a healthy diet and having regular doctors visits for you and your spouse.

Planning for the big day can be really stressful. Working women/brides-to-be have so much to think about: flowers, the ceremony, invitations, bridesmaids, the cake, and the honeymoon. Planning the wedding is almost a full time job!

P.L.O.W. – Shiny Shiny Diamonds

To help wrap up engagement week, I thought I would make a playlist full of diamond songs, plus a tune by everyone's favorite Diamond – Neil, that's for you mom! It is a fairly mellow music mix but should still help you get your heart rate up. This playlist would be a great musical accompaniment for a stress relieving power walk or a planning walk, because why would you want to plan sitting down?

To hear the playlist just click the right arrow after you

Get Wedding Dress Ready: Pre-Wedding Workouts

If you're looking to get fit for your big day then you might want to enlist some help. There are a lot of ways to do your pre-wedding training with programs designed with brides in mind. Just keep in mind, it's best to start any fitness training at least 4-6 weeks before the big day. So here are a few of my ideas:

The Wedding Boot Camp DVD ($109).
Don't Overdo When Getting Ready to Say "I Do"

While I told you that it's never too early to get in shape for your wedding, I also wanted to add a few words of caution: Keep the weight loss in check!

It seems that as the trend for lavish and expensive weddings grows, brides are putting more and more pressure on themselves to be "perfect" for their wedding days. While this concept of perfection includes a fancy gown and professionally done hair and makeup, it is starting to include a body that is "red carpet" worthy. And for that "look" many women feel they need to lose weight. A recent study published in the journal Appetite found that 70 percent of brides felt the need to lose at least 20 pounds. While most women used their engagements to start a healthy weight loss and fitness plan, 20 percent of the 272 women interviewed succumbed to extreme dieting and dangerous behaviors like taking up smoking and vomiting between meals. Other unhealthy behaviors these women participated in included: skipping meals, going on liquid diets, fasting, or taking laxatives or unprescribed diet pills and supplements.

As a reminder I would like to state again that getting in shape and losing weight is a lifestyle change, and it takes time, patience and hard work. A healthy and reasonable weight loss rate is losing a maximum of two pounds a week. So, if you are getting ready to say "I do" just make sure you don't "over do." It might also help to brush up on how to steer clear of fad diets. When setting your goals for getting wedding ready, just make sure they are reasonable. Enter your marriage strong and healthy so the vow, "In sickness and in health" will truly resonate.

Register For Your Wedding the Healthy Way

It's never too early to get in shape for your wedding, but you also can't be blamed for thinking about the wedding gifts right off the bat. You can go the traditional route and register for home and kitchen items, or you can mix it up with some fitness-related finds, from tandem bikes to gym memberships.

I was actually surprised to find a number of online retailers that let you register for fitness-related gifts. Even if you're already married or not getting hitched anytime soon, these make great gift ideas for any fit newlyweds on your list. To see what I've come up with,

It's Not Too Early to Get in Shape For Your Wedding

If you've recently gotten engaged or know that a wedding is in the distant future for you, it's never too early to start thinking about getting fit for the big day. Not only do you want to look your best, but it's great to get in the habit of living a healthy lifestyle before your wedding, so you'll have a long life to share with your partner.

Here are some things to start thinking about:

If you're looking to lose weight, you can meet with a dietitian. They can help you come up with a safe and healthy eating plan that will be nutritious and low in calories.

If you're looking to tone up specific areas of your body (like your upper arms and back) you can hire a personal trainer. They'll be able to show you exercises for each area you're concerned about.

You can also just do toning and strengthening exercises on your own. This Starter Arms video is a great routine that's sure to work every muscle in your upper body. Also, there are a lot of DVDs that you may enjoy.

What else can you start doing? To find out

Maintain Your Weight After the Big Event

Did you get extra fit to look stunning in your gown? Or maybe you worked out extra hard to be the hottest bridesmaid wearing the ugliest dress? Maybe the big event you were losing weight for was your 10 year or 20 year high school reunion. Now that the event is over, how do you stay motivated to maintain all those glorious changes?

Here are a few ideas:

Get Competitive: If you are goal oriented or need an event to get you moving, sign up for a race. If you have been running for exercise pick an upcoming race in your area and enter the fray. Active.com is a great way to find races in your area.

Mix it Up: Try new forms of exercise. Experiment with different classes like: cardio kickboxing, Body Pump, or Punk Rope.

Exercise with Your Husband: Turn your new husband into you fitness buddy with these ideas on how to get physical with your man.

Find an Exercise Buddy: If working out is your refuge and you don't want to share those moments with your man, find a different exercise partner like a friend, neighbor or co-worker. Make a standing date with your buddy and don't stand your buddy up.

If the reason you are not motivated to workout is that you're feeling a little blue after your big event, then you need to read Dear's post on combating post wedding blues.

Post Honeymoon: Still Get Physical

Yes, here on the Sugar Network we are wrapping up our wedding coverage. The honeymoon may be over, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't get physical with your honey.

Now that you are settling back into "real-life" and life as a married couple, I suggest scheduling some exercise time together. In fact spouses can inspire healthy habits in their mate. From experience I would say nagging is not the way to go - it is annoying and not so effective. Instead you and your spouse should workout together and there are so many ways for the two of you to get physical.

You can bike together and really go all out in your new super cuteness as newlyweds and ride a tandem bike. There are also the classic outings for pairs like jogging, hiking, and tennis. Don't feel like you have to limit yourself to these, experiment with different activities like Salsa dancing, rock climbing, or tandem yoga poses like the airplane. After an invigorating workout you can give each other massages.

If exercising as a couple is new to you, these tips on how to exercise with a partner will be helpful to you. Remember all good marriages are based on these principles: love, honor and negotiation. OK - I read that on an appliquéd pillow somewhere, but it is really true.

Best wishes!!!!

Workout on Your Honeymoon, Seriously

Welcome to our last installment of Wedding Season on the Sugar Network! This week we are celebrating the final phase of the wedding celebration - the honeymoon. Now, I know a lot of you are reading the title laughing, but I am being totally serious here.

The thing is that you (and your new hubby) have been working hard to get those toned bodies for the wedding -- You may have even found that you actually enjoy [gasp] working out and how good you feel from it. Since the honeymoon is supposed to be a time where you feel your best, happy and relaxed, think about squeezing in a few workouts. So, if you're actually considering leaving your hotel room while on your honeymoon, here are few tips on how to fit a workout in:

I am not saying wake up at 5:00 am every morning, but if you ever have any down time then hit the gym at the hotel. Most resorts these days have amazing fitness centers that are worth 30 minutes of your time. A good resource to use while looking for a hotel with a good fitness center is AthleticMindedTraveler, because the folks over there have scoured hotels gyms nationwide.

Some hotels will even offer group fitness activities like water aerobics, sunrise hikes and even standard fitness classes like spinning.

If you're near the beach, how about a sunset jog or stroll on the beach with your man? Not only is it romantic, but running and walking on sand are great ways to work your leg muscles.

Speaking of the beach, snorkeling and scuba diving are fabulous ways to be active and see some amazing things under the sea.

Not into swimming with the fish, kayaking and canoeing are great ways to spend some time together as newlyweds while seeing the water from above.

For those of you that love to run, think about doing something totally different such as sight jogging - a jogging tour. Depending on where you're going, ask your concierge about availability.

While we're on the subject of the concierge -- If sight jogging is not your style, but you would be interested in something else along those lines, ask the concierge available options. He should be able to give you many suggestions for different types of things you can do to see the area while burning a few calories along the way.

Fit's Tips: If working out just isn't on your agenda, an hour of sex could burn about 250 calories (for an 130 pound woman).

Adventure Honeymoon

Welcome to our last installment of <a href="Wedding Season on the Sugar Network! This week we are celebrating the final phase of the wedding celebration - the honeymoon.

For some newlyweds heading to the beach to sit and relax sounds like the ultimate honeymoon. Others, however, crave adventure. The world has so much to offer and there is so much to see with your new spouse. You could sea kayak around the Galapagos Islands. Island hop in the Aegean Sea via sailboat. What about a bike tour of Vietnam. Or you could scuba dive at the Great Barrier Reef. If you are interested in staying stateside there is hiking and camping on the Nepali Coast in Kauai or rock climbing in Yosemite.

If romance and adventure overlap for you and your newly minted spouse, you should check out Adventure Honeymoons. This website has all sorts of packages on almost every continent. It is worth considering getting off the beaten path and taking advantage of the time you have off together. The other cool thing is that you can register with Adventure Honeymoons so your wedding guests can contribute to your honeymoon, instead of giving you another toaster.

Regardless if an adventure honeymoon is right for you, DearSugar would love to hear where you went on your honeymoon. So go ahead, do tell.

Brides: Finding the Right Birth Control

Now that you are getting married, you might find that your birth control needs are changing. Since you are in a monogamous relationship, you don't have to worry about contracting an STI, so birth control methods that weren't an option before may suddenly be perfect for you. Plus, you may want to think about more suitable options depending on whether or not you are planning on having kids.

If you are thinking about starting a family soon, you can continue using condoms - because they are easy. If you don't want to be bothered IN the moment the Pill or other hormonal methods are great options. The monophasic birth control pills, the Patch, an IUD like Mirena, or the Nuvaring are effective at preventing pregnancy, and you'll begin ovulating soon after you stop using them.

If kids are in your near future, and you are using a long-term method of birth control such as the Depo-Provera shot, or the Implanon insert, you may want to consider going off of these soon after you get married. It can take up to a year for your body to get back to its normal cycle. You can use one of the above forms of birth control such as the Pill or condoms, until you know you're ready to start your family. You have talked about whether the two of you want kids, right?

Of course after you say "I Do," if you and your husband are planning on getting pregnant right away, you'll want to get off any form of birth control and possibly work on charting your cycle using the Fertility Awareness Method. That way you'll know which days are the best for getting preggers.

Fit's Tips: Now that you are entering this new stage in your life, if you aren't seeing one already, than switch to a gynecologist who's also an obstetrician. It's good to build a relationship with a doctor who could deliver your future children. They'll also be able to give you advice about birth control methods that will fit with your married lifestyle.

Wedding Day Workout

Most grooms participate in some sport or athletic activity (golf, soccer, football, etc) on the morning of their wedding day. This is how they ease the tension and I must say the grooms have it right - the name of the game here is stress relief, not last minute weight loss. Come the day of, or even weekend of, your wedding, hopefully you've already done your best from an exercise perspective and one last workout will not do much in terms of dropping pounds. However, what it may do is calm you down, especially if you're feeling any last minute stress or jitters.

The problem is that most brides do not have enough time to feed themselves the day of their wedding, let alone time to fit in a workout or group activity. However, if you have been working out on a regular basis for a year (or even six months) up until your big day, you've probably noticed that working out is a great stress reliever and mood booster -- Two things you might need at this point. So, think about trying and finding a way to fit it in with these three tips:

Stick to your routine: If your body is used to going on a two mile run every Saturday morning, then try to fit it in. Maybe you switch the run to a Friday morning, instead of Saturday, but I am sure you'll feel great when it's done and you'll be ready to hit the ground running (literally and figuratively). Invite your out-of-towner pals, or even get your husband-to-be (only on jogs the day before, that is), to join you. This is a great time to actually have a conversation with them/him before (or during) all the commotion that is your wedding weekend.

Yoga: Get all your maids together for a pre hair and make-up yoga session. Not only will you (and all your girls) feel great from getting a little workout in, you'll also feel more relaxed and ready for your close-ups.

Stretching: If you can find the time to fit in anything, at the very least, do a little stretching when you wake up the morning of your big day. Pay more attention to your lower body as most brides are on their feet (in high heels, might I add) the entire day of their wedding.

Wedding Weekend: How to Destress On The Big Day

Weddings - sometimes they seem to be made of equal parts love and stress. No matter if you planned an enormous wedding or an intimate event, there are so many details to keep in line along side processing the notion of lifetime commitment. Since it is Wedding Weekend here at the Sugar sites, I thought I should share some tips on how to de-stress on your big day. These tips are great for any event big or small, from weddings to dinner parties.

Make a list a week before of all the details that need to be dealt with on the day of the event. Organize what should happen when, and figure out what tasks should be delegated to friends and family.

That organization list should be a physical list not a mental one. All those details floating around in your head are sure to make you dizzy with stress.

Take some time for yourself that day. If you're about to get married, everyone is going to want a piece of your time to chit chat. Make sure to give yourself some me moments where you can do what you want to do. It could be taking a sauna, going for a swim, or watching old episodes of "Grey's Anatomy". Do whatever is going to help you relax.

Meditate. Meditation is a great way to clear your head and relax. Try a simple technique like sit in a quiet dark place, close your eyes and focus only on your breathing for 10-15 minutes. Being quiet and clearing your mind before the event really helps you to be present when all the action starts.

Eat something healthy and filling (if you can stomach it) to ensure you will stay energized. The day is going to be long and you are going to be very busy, so make sure you feed yourself so you don't run out of fuel.

Now if you are looking for more helpful hints on this subject, be sure to check out Dear Sugar's post on dealing with stress on your wedding day. Remember to have fun and breathe.

Dealing with Your Bachelorette Party (or ANY) Hangover

It's Wedding Party Week here on the Sugar pages, and FitSugar has been loaded with some wonderful ideas for alternative bachelorette parties. However, if you are planning on going the traditional route you might just get loaded yourself. Here are a few tips for dealing with the hangover that might happen if you get a bit more than tipsy at your bachelorette party.

Drink water before you go to bed!!! It is no joke that alcohol dehydrates you.

Your skin will also feel the effects of dehydration from alcohol, so before you go to bed, slather on face moisturizer to prevent that dry feeling when you wake up.

Nip the headache in the bud and take two ibuprofen tablets, to help diminish the headache and body aches that accompany a hangover.

Clean up!!! Take a nice hot shower upon waking - alcohol resides in your pores, the steam from your hot shower will help sweat out the alcohol and the smell.

Juice it!!! Drink juice - fructose, such as honey or fruit juice, may help your body burn the alcohol faster.

Physical activity (wink - wink, nudge nudge) can help your body burn through the excess alcohol by eliminating the toxins by sweating.

My buddy DearSugar has some suggestions for dealing with hangovers.

Please remember to drink responsibly and never, ever drink and drive.

Source

Bachelorette Party Idea: Private Yoga Class

Not into doing shots and going to see male strippers for your bachelorette party? Instead of going out and getting a lap dance from some muscular stranger wearing a g-string, how about doing something centering and physical like a private yoga class?

You can hire an instructor you know or contact a local yoga studio. AN istructor could either come to your home, but if you don't have the space, you could have the private class at the studio or gym where they teach.

Or check out this service - Yoga for Weddings. It's made up of a network of yoga instructors from New York, London, Seattle, and Miami. Even if you don't live in those cities, if you book them far enough in advance, they can get an instructor to come to you wherever you are. You can do one private class or sign up for a class package.

Just e-mail or call Yoga for Weddings to discuss details or to schedule a private Yoga session.

I love this idea because it supports your healthy, active lifestyle. You can't get a massive headache hangover from a yoga class, but you may learn to stand on your head. Yoga is all about inspiring you to stretch and move your body, so you can open your heart and calm your mind. It'll be an experience you and your girlfriends will always remember.

Mehndi Party for the Bride to Be

When my best friend got married, she wasn't into the all-night strip joint and bar-hopping scene. Before she met her now husband, she spent a year abroad in India, so when it was time for her Bachelorette Party, she knew exactly what she wanted to do.

In Indian traditions, the bride gets together with all her female friends and family right before she gets married and they have a Mehndi Party. She gets adorned with henna tattoos all over her hands and feet, so she looks beautiful on her wedding day. Of course, you may want to plan this party a few months before your big day, unless you want to wear henna with your fancy white dress.

Henna tattoos are all natural but not at all permanent. The henna only stains the outer layer of the skin, so it lasts about 2-4 weeks. The dried leaves of the henna plant are ground into a greenish powder, and then mixed with lemon juice and warm water (and anything else in their family's recipe). The chocolate-colored paste is applied with a cone (kind of like baker's use for decorating cakes) or with a thin stick.

The designs are extremely intricate and take hours to apply. The bride has to sit and wait for the paste to dry and set, so if she needs anything, all her gal pals take care of her. After a few hours, the dried paste is then peeled or brushed off the skin, revealing an orange print. Some people even wait until the next morning before peeling off the design to ensure a darker stain - I even slept with plastic bags on my hands, I like being decorated. Never wash the dried henna off with water since that will make the design fade faster. The color darkens over the next few days, but as the dead skin cells begin to slough off, the henna tattoo, too, begins to fade away.

Fit's Tips: If you love this idea, contact your local tattoo parlor, spiritual bookstore, yoga studio, or salon. Someone is bound to know someone who does Mendhi in your area. The artist can come and do just the bride, or do all the guests at your Bachelorette Party. Then for the 2-4 weeks you'll have a visual reminder of this special day spent with the girls.

Want to see what it looks like after the paste is peeled off? Then

Rejuvenate and Party: Spa Day Bachelorette Party

It is Wedding Season, here at the Sugar Network, and this week is dedicated to all the parties that happen before the BIG Day. Now, not every bachelorette party needs to be about drinking too much or making extravagant wedding dresses from toilet paper. You can do something fun and relax while you chill with your best gal pals - yes, I am talking Spa Day.

There are many options when you are planning your Spa Day bachelorette party, mostly because there are so many spas and day spas to choose from. Many spas will offer group discounts of 10-15% for groups larger than 4 or 6. Often the guests can pick or choose their own treatments and you can all hang out together between massages, or you can have your pedicures all at the same time. Make sure the spa has a hot tub so you can all hang out together as one big, crazy bachelorette party. No splashing though since that is often considered poor spa etiquette.

You can also opt for a party crated by Mobile Spa Party in the comfort of your own home (you supply the hot tub). Their tag line is "A Day Spa at your Doorstep" and they offer day spa services including: facials, skin treatments, massage, manicures, pedicures, and more. Unfortunately, the Mobile Spa only operates in a handful of metropolitan areas across the US. Here is the link to their locations listed by state and metro area.

Some upscale nail salons are open to hosting parties, where you and your party have the entire salon to yourselves. Generally you supply the food and beverages and they provide the mani's and pedi's. There is no reason not to go out on the town with pretty fingers and toes, so you can combine a little pampering with a little partying.

You know my buddy Bella has something to say on this subject. Check out her post, Bachelorette Weekend: A Spa Pampering Party, for even more ideas.

No matter what you do - have some fun and let all that wedding stress melt away.

Source

A Bachelorette Party that Burns Calories, Not Brain Cells

Some bachelorette parties go a little something like this: Gather. Drink. Pile into limo. Stop at bar with penis straws and sashes saying things like "Miss Bride to Be". Male stripper does a dance. Random dude at the bar buys everyone shots. Pile back into the limo. Maid of honor to be tosses her cookies out the window while crying. Blackout. Wake up feeling like crap. The end.

I don't know about you, but this is not always my idea of a good time. How about trying something different for your (or your best friend's) bachelorette party. I'm thinking Sheila Kelley's S Factor...

Led by an instructor, an S Factor Bachelorette Party is a totally creative way to celebrate a bride-to-be. The two-hour party is designed with fun in mind, yet still provides the gentle, rigorous workout that the S Factor is famous for. The first part of the party consists of a luxurious warm-up that takes students through all S Factor movements and positions learned in the regular classes. Depending on the size of the party, everyone will learn the first part of a lap dance routine and a beginning pole trick or two. The best part is, the bride-to-be will learn a full-on lap dance routine that she will perform for her friends (and later her husband-to-be). The cost for an S Factor Bachelorette Party is $550 (for up to 10 women). For more information and to book a party, go to SFactor.com.

Fit's Tip: Party hardy after you've burned off some calories -- Especially since food or drink are not allowed and, due to safety regulations, alcoholic beverages should not be consumed before or during the party.

Aromatherapy Wedding Bubbles

If you're looking for something unique and fun to give for a wedding favor (it's also fun even if you're not getting married), I've got to tell you about Lunaroma Aroma Bubbles.

I went to a wedding a few years ago and bubbles were handed out to all of the guests to blow at the newly married couple. It was fun blowing bubbles and seems so much better than rice since it is bad for the birds, or birdseed that can make its way down your cleavage. Plus, floating bubbles are angelic.

Want to know more about them? Then

Relax Already: Take Some Time For Yourself

Modern life is hectic and if you are planning a wedding - wow talk about an exponential increase on the stress-o-meter. Here are some things for a bride-to-be, or any stressed out lady for that matter, to try to keep sane during the wedding mania.

Breathe: Take some time out to just breathe (I think Faith Hill might have got it right). Sit somewhere comfy and focus on your breath, the inhale and the exhale. Try to do this for 5 minutes. You will be surprised how a little meditation goes a long way.

Soak: Take a bath and let all the stress just float away. Light come candles, use some essential oils and listen to some calming music. Now that is what I call quality alone time.

Daydream: It is A-OK to space out and let your thoughts wander. You might just figure out the seating arrangement conundrum while daydreaming.

Exercise: Nothing keeps me more sane than a good run. If you don't have time to hit the gym, drop to the floor and do your side push ups, and your elbow planks. Your arms and your mind will love you after.

Have fun enjoying the planning process!!!!

Brides and Bacne: What to Do

The long haul to getting ready for your wedding can be complicated (or swimsuit season, for that matter). You're working out to look hot for your big day, but all the sweat is making you break out all over your body. To make matters worse you have a backless wedding dress. Yikes!!! What are you going to do?

For starters do not stop working out. All that exercise is great for relieving stress. Make sure to wear a sports bra and top that are made of wicking fabric and to take a shower immediately after exercising.

When you shower, use use Cetaphil or some other antibacterial cleanser on your back. Sugar user karebear recommends Murad Clarifying Spray, and user suzanne likes Zaperella's Bionic Blast by Benefit. TeamSugar just told me about the <a href=http://teamsugar.com/user/TeamSugar/beautymarks/225130">Body Squad Treatment by Avon.

If your problem persists, visiting a dermatologist might prove helpful. Ask your doc about Clindareach, a topical antibiotic designed with a special applicator for those hard to reach spots. This product does require a prescription.

Another way to fight the good fight against bacne, is a back facial (should this be called a "bacial?"). Many spas now offer this treatment and you can often buy a package of treatments for a discounted rate. Sorry to say, I think more than one treatment might be in order to really get the acne under control.

Multitasking Move: Arms and Abs

I love multitasking, about this I cannot lie. I really love a multitasking exercise. Arms and abs are often what brides want to work in their pre-wedding Pilates sessions. Well, here are 2 types of elbow planks to get the job done, and they are not just for brides. Planks are a great way to get your body bikini ready.

Elbow Plank

Hold for 30 seconds

Pull your abs up toward the ceiling, but do not break at your hips

Really press through your elbows so you don't collapse between your shoulder blades</li?

Reach through your heels to activate the back of your legs and your booty (similar to weighting your heels when you do a squat)

Side Elbow Plank

Keep your waist lifted away from the floor, work those obliques

Press down with your elbow to keep your shoulder away from your ear

Reach through your top hand, this will make you feel lighter

Both exercises are fine to do if you have wrist problems since the weight is on your elbow, not your hands.

Try holding each plank for 30 seconds, and work up to holding them for a minute. These are great to do during commercial breaks while watching TV. Just put something under your elbows to cushion them.

A Week In Review: FitSugar roundup

Meatless Mondays are starting at my house this coming Monday.

Now that it is Saturday, you've got to try the booty workout. Here's the printable version for you to take to the gym.

Here is a new TreadMill workout for you to try next time you're at the gym. Or if you have one at home hop on and try it.

Speak Up and tell me what you listen to when you workout.

After splurging on Burberry golf accessoriesyou might just need some FREE golf lessons.

We all know fiber is an important part of our diet. But do you know if an apple or a pear has more fiber? You might also be interested in knowing how much fiber your favorite fruit has to offer.

Since it IS the weekend you have time to practice Sun Salutation B.

Monday was the Boston Marathon and Lidiya Grigoryeva won by finishing in 2 hours and 29 minutes. Jacob might have taken a little longer to cross the finish line, but his story is quite motivational.

The Sugar pages have been filled with wedding mania this week, but walking seems to be how Eva Longoria deals with her pre-wedding stress.

Just wondering if you have tried the Side Push Up. It is a great way to work your arms.

Flynet

Get Physical: Partner Yoga for the Bride and Groom

Since wedding planning can be really hectic, why not relieve some stress by trying something new with your fiancé? When yoga poses are done with another, especially someone you care about, they can relax your mind, open your heart and deepen your connection. Yoga is great on your own, but when you practice Partner Yoga, you can achieve what you never could alone.

Interested? Check out the yoga studios in your area to see if they offer special Partner Yoga classes or workshops. It's a great way to learn partner poses from an actual instructor so you can ask questions and get help with alignment. Plus, with the two of you in the class, when you're at home practicing together, you can help each other remember how to do the poses (two memories are better than one!).

Can't find a class? Then

Take a Break from Wedding Planning: Workout!

If you're engaged and well into wedding planning then you're probably (or you're about to be) bombarded with a million things wedding related. Flowers, dress, food, venue, etc. One piece of advice: Take a workout break.

I know it sounds odd, but a good workout may be your only chance to get a moment for yourself to stop thinking about how much you have to do for the wedding. Turn your phone off, bring a good book or magazine that is NOT wedding related (such things do exist, I swear) and take that aggression out on a treadmill and pair of free weights. Feeling really overwhelmed? Maybe your fiancé is driving you up the wall with his lack of cooperation? Hit the punching bag for a few minutes. Taking a workout break will not only help tone you up before the big day, but it will give you some "you, the bride" time and you'll feel energized and ready to go for everything else that comes your way.

Wedding Prep: Get Your Smile Ready

One thing a bride wants on her wedding day is a picture perfect smile. Come to think of it - who doesn't want a lovely smile? There's no time like the present to get your smile ready for your big day (this could be graduation, reunion, or a much anticipated vacation too). Sometimes dealing with dental visits can take several months, or possibly even over a year, so you'll want to get started as soon as possible.

Think about having visible metal fillings replaced with white resin-based composite fillings (they blend in with your natural tooth color). Some people think non-metal fillings are healthier for you anyway.

If your teeth are stained or discolored, maybe you've always thought about getting your teeth whitened. If you cannot afford the expensive whitening treatments the dentist offers, you can try an OTC whitener. Do talk to you dentist about which product is right for you.

If you have some teeth that are out of place, you'll be glad you called your dentist early to set up a plan so your teeth will be straight for the big day.

Whatever the reason, starting your dental work early is a great idea. I know my dentist has so many patients that I have to make appointments at least 3 months in advance. You'll feel more confident about getting your smile set as soon as possible.

Eva Longoria Walks Her Way to Being One Hot Bride

We all know that Eva Longoria has been busy getting ready for her wedding this July. She knows, like any bride, that when you're wedding planning, it can seem like there are not enough hours in the day and it's rough keeping up with everything.

To top it all off, you somehow have to fit in a workout, because a bride's got to look hot on her big day. How about killing two birds with one stone?

A study of adults found that those who walked for about 45 minutes three times per week for six months performed substantially better on several cognitive tests than those who only did stretching or strengthening exercises. Not only did the walkers perform better on tests that gauged their ability to plan, establish schedules and switch between tasks, they also showed significant improvement in oxygen consumption.

					<div id=mask-21673 class=mask style='float:left;width:75px;height:75px;overflow:hidden;background:#FFF;margin:0px 3px 3px 0px;border:0px solid #111;padding:0px;' onmouseover={style.borderColor='#ff6600'} onmouseout={style.borderColor='#111'}>

			 							<div id=mask-73622 class=mask style='float:left;width:75px;height:75px;overflow:hidden;background:#FFF;margin:0px 3px 3px 0px;border:0px solid #111;padding:0px;' onmouseover={style.borderColor='#ff6600'} onmouseout={style.borderColor='#111'}>

			 							<div id=mask-47947 class=mask style='float:left;width:75px;height:75px;overflow:hidden;background:#FFF;margin:0px 3px 3px 0px;border:0px solid #111;padding:0px;' onmouseover={style.borderColor='#ff6600'} onmouseout={style.borderColor='#111'}>

What's more? Walking burns calories too! So take Eva's lead and take walks during your wedding planning; your mind and body will thank you. Could you even throw that wedding binder away? I wouldn't go that far, but you may have an easier time remembering who you're meeting with and when and why. To see more pics of Eva walking off her wedding planning stress,

iDo: Wedding Planning and Multi-tasking

Planning for the big day can be really stressful. Working women/brides-to-be have so much to think about: flowers, the ceremony, bridesmaids, the cake, the honeymoon. Planning the wedding is almost a full time job!

So you don't become too overwhelmed, you're going to have to make multi-tasking a part of your planning process.

Here's a great way to kill two birds with one stone: research wedding info while working out. Download podcasts to your iPod from iTunes. Here are a few for you to try: Wedding Planning Talk Radio (8 free episodes), Queer Eye (has a 9-episode wedding series), and 4 free podcasts from Bride Magazine.

For a small bit of change, you can download individual episodes of your favorite wedding-themed TV shows, or even get an entire season of the reality TV show, Whose Wedding is This Anyway? for $18.

Listen while you tone up for your wedding, that is multi-tasking at its best.

Side Push-Ups: Great for Arms & Brides

I am always looking for quick ways to work my arms. This exercise is great for those commercial break moments, but is also great to do at the gym. It is a great exercise since it works your biceps, triceps and deltoids. By keeping your core engaged it will also work your waist. Nice bonus, huh?

Do 10 repetitions on each side

Starting Position

Keep waist up and lifted

Keep energy shooting out of the crown of your head

Push-Up

Exhale and press hand firmly into floor and press elbow to almost straight

Keep torso stable - use your core

Bend Elbow

Lower yourself back down, to start position (see top photo)

Go twice as slow as the push up move, this works your arms even more

DO:

Spread your fingers wide so your fingers take weight and not just your wrist.

Really keep your torso supported throughout exercise. This makes the exercise easier, but also turns it into a more full body exercise.

Put padding under your hip if this hurts that bony protrusion (greater trochanter) on your thigh bone (femur).

Add this exercise into the Starter Arms routine. Just do them after the triceps dips.
