The rules of parenting are constantly changing. Just last week, the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommended that children should receive a daily dosage of 200 daily units of Vitamin D. As of today, the figure has doubled to 400 daily units.

I have a few friends that fear the sun. A few are afraid of wrinkles and skin cancer, and there are those serious goth gals who just dislike all things sunny – you know who you are. These fears, rationale or not, keep these ladies from getting enough Vitamin D, the sunshine vitamin.

A recent study found that children's bones are getting weaker and more brittle, which is causing a surge in rickets — a poor bone condition common in the 19th century. While most people think that drinking milk will prevent bone loss, there's really much more to it.
Starting at a young age, children need lots of calcium in addition to loads of Vitamin D to fortify the calcium in their bones.

A recent Spanish study found that 6.8 ounces of wine a day, be it red or white, increased women's HDL cholesterol, which is considered that good kind of cholesterol.

Since it is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, I thought I would tell you about a recent and interesting study on the disease. A research team found that increased exposure to sunlight, which increases levels of vitamin D in the body, may decrease the risk of advanced breast cancer. Although researchers have not yet determined why this is so, it appears that vitamin D may play a significant role in slowing the growth of breast cancer cells.
