It is June and wedding season in is in full bloom. Weddings are fun-filled events, but beware of the buffet. It is all too easy to pile the calories onto one little plate.

Over the weekend Fab and I attended the Junior League of San Francisco's — a great organization that helps mothers in need — annual luncheon and fashion show. Instead of having a boring buffet or walking waiters, the tables were set with ingredients to make-your-own salad. Having to pass platters was a great way to start conversations between the unacquainted guests.

Having lived in a studio in the past, I've experienced first-hand the trials and tribulations of trying to make one room play two roles. I have many friends living tiny apartments who try to cram the furniture meant for both a living room and a bedroom into the same room, and let me tell you, none have succeeded. It's not only studio dwellers that encounter these issues, though.

When I chatted weddings with Gail Simmons a couple of weeks ago, she shared her tips for hosting an eco-friendly big day and let me know her wedding pet peeves. "When the wedding doesn't reflect the personality of the couple, that really bugs me." Also on her list: a menu that lacks creativity, and dessert buffets.

One reason to choose a long engagement after your man pops the big question is so you can have an engagement party. This week I'm planning one for julieulie and her fiancé Scott who recently got engaged, but aren't getting married until Memorial Day 2008. I thought it would be fabulously fun and original to throw a dessert party instead of a typical dinner or cocktail party.

Considering that it is Home Entertainment month and the holiday parties are nonstop, I thought it fitting to arm you with some tips for rearranging your furniture, in case you are throwing a party.
- If your party is on the weekend, decorate and rearrange your home during the week before the party. That way you'll get it out of the way, leaving you time to deal with cooking, shopping, etc.
