While those of us in the professional world are experiencing a resurgence of college spirit through March Madness, high school seniors are rushing to the mailbox and frantically checking email to find out where they've been accepted. According to a Princeton Review survey of college applicants and parents, almost seven of 10 respondents say the economic downturn has affected their college application decisions. Nine out of 10 respondents say financial aid will be essential.

Last year, Oprah spoke to Stanford's class of 2008 about her lessons on feelings, failure, and finding happiness, and this year the mogul lent her presence and words to Duke University's class of 2009. Her theme was success and her message was simple: money is great, but it's not everything.

The public hasn't warmed up to George W. Bush since he left office, but a new study out of Stanford University shines a positive light on the embattled president's legacy. The President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief, started in 2003 under Bush, has saved 1.2 million lives in Africa, according to the study published yesterday.

"Race" hasn't been without its partner "card" much this election and the reason the subject has been taboo and arguable could be this: according to a new poll conducted by Stanford University, the percentage of voters who may reject Obama because of his race could easily outnumber the final difference between the candidates during the last election.
And the negative responders aren't all McCain Republicans, either. More than a third of white Democrats have negative views towards blacks calling them “lazy," “violent," and responsible for their own problems.
