Squats are so much fun. OK, maybe you don't love squats but you must admit they get the job done. If you have a stronger leg, or a dominant leg, chances are high you are not working your legs evenly and your weak leg is getting short changed.

Single leg squats are one of my December must haves. They are a great way to get your legs mountain ready. Even if you don't like snow sports, single leg squats are a challenging exercise to add into your strength training routine.

I love combo strength-training moves that target more than one part of the body, and I also love quick moves I can throw in throughout my day, even when I'm not at the gym. This balancing booty- and thigh-toning exercise can be done while blow-drying your hair, waiting for the bus, or talking on the phone.

It has taken me considerably longer to reconcile my negative feelings of running downhill with the power I feel running up the other side. Unlike biking down a descent where gravity pulls you along, running downhill is work and it's hard on your quads and knees. In my neck of the woods though, it's difficult to find a flat run so I've had to cultivate a love of running downhill.

Using an exercise ball to do strength training exercises can be really challenging, so not only will you become stronger, but you'll do so in less time. Having to stabilize your body makes you use more muscles, so it doesn't take many reps before you begin to feel the exercise working. So grab an exercise ball and a pair of dumbbells and try these three moves.

Today is Earth Day, so celebrate with an outdoor workout. Yes you can run and walk outside, but you can also strength train while doing so. All you need is an empty park bench and a curb to strength train your entire body while on the move in the outdoors.

Three-time Olympian Dominique Dawes may be in retirement, but that doesn't mean she's stopped working out.
Sticking to the common strength training principal in gymnastics, the "Awesome Dawesome" still steers clears of weights. She challenges her strength with her own body weight.

Highlights
Pain Medications
- Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and COX-2 inhibitors work equally well for pain management, but both types of drugs increase the risk for heart attacks, according to an important report from the U.S. Agency for Healthcare Quality and Research.
- The prescription NSAID diclofenac (Voltaren, Cataflam) may present a higher risk for heart attack than other NSAIDs, suggests a 2006 Journal of the American Medical Association study.
- Standard osteoarthritis medications provide moderate pain relief for only 2 - 3 weeks, suggests a 2007 review in the European Journal of Pain.
Acupuncture
Acupuncture may be helpful for people with knee and hip osteoarthritis, according to several 2006 studies:
- An Annals of Internal Medicine study of 1,007 people with chronic osteoarthritis knee pain indicated that patients who received acupuncture plus standard care had greater improvement than those who received only physical therapy and anti-inflammatory drugs.
- An Arthritis and Rheumatism study of 3,663 patients with chronic osteoarthritis knee or hip pain suggested that acupuncture plus routine care can provide significant improvements in pain relief and quality of life. In both studies, the benefits of acupuncture were sustained for up to 6 months after treatment completion.
Exercise and Knee Osteoarthritis
Weight-bearing exercise (walking, jogging) neither prevents nor increases the risk of knee osteoarthritis in healthy middle-aged and elderly people, suggests a 2007 study in Arthritis and Rheumatism.

So Bode Miller may not have medaled in the 2006 Winter Olympics, but he is still one amazing skier. His fans can be infectious; I have a 4-year-old alpine skier who lives across the street from me who rabidly collects Bode stickers. Miller recently announced that he would be leaving the US Ski Team, but you can still train like him.
