Do you know your film noir, doll? This cinematic genre often starred alluring actresses such as Veronica Lake, Rita Hayworth, and Ava Gardner. Common features of these types of films include a highly stylized appearance of both the characters and scenery, a crime, and some sort of dramatic, sexual undertone in the backdrop — think The Maltese Falcon and Out of the Past, or in more modern films, Basic Instinct or No Country For Old Men.

It's hard to keep up with all the "green" products on the market right now, so I haven't had the chance to try L'Oreal Hair Expertise Ever Pure Smooth Shampoo ($7). It's supposed to be gentle and sulfate-free, and although those are both good things, that doesn't mean that it's the right one for you. Reader xholdxmexunderx took it for a test-drive and wasn't terribly impressed, saying:
"I got this after dying my hair dark, and it didn't rinse out my color like most other shampoos do.

When you're on crutches, even the smallest tasks can be daunting. (You just try to carry a glass of water while carrying yourself. Can't be done.) In the name of simplicity, I've minimized my grooming routine, which means that I haven't been blow-drying my hair.

If you've got buildup from chlorine or styling products, or perhaps your hair is looking a little lackluster, I've got a few solutions. Just head to the pantry, grab a few ingredients, and stir up your own homemade brew.
Do you need some clarity?

John Frieda's Root Awakening Nourishing Moisture Shampoo is formulated for dry hair, but it also works to help feed roots. Reader Brandysbug tried out the newer shampoo recently, and here's what she had to say:
I usually need to apply a hair mask after shampooing/conditioning, but I skipped it the past two days when using this shampoo, and my hair has been super silky and shiny. Plus, the eucalyptus scent is so refreshing in the morning.

If you color your hair, you know it takes some extra steps to give it the love it deserves, particularly if you're going for those red tones. Recently, reader Norabora reviewed Nexxus Dualiste Dual Benefit Conditioner ($16), a dual pump conditioner that protects color from fading and delivers volume to limp locks. Here's what she had to say:
I just started using this conditioner (along with the matching shampoo) this week.

Along with its aromatherapy benefits, eucalyptus comes with a smell all its own. If it were a food, I'd call it an acquired taste. I like the earthy, slightly medicinal scent, so I was excited to test out this new Root Awakening line featuring natural eucalyptus and essential oil.

Hi, it's curly-haired Bella here with an update on that whole no-poo/ plopping conversation. To refresh your memory, the first step to no 'poo is using shampoos without sulfates and, as I happened to be nearing the bottom of my bottle anyway, I hunted for items falling into this category for my next purchase.
Instead of taking the no-shampoo-period route, I sought out those without surfactants – no sodium laureth sulfate, sodium lauryl sulfate or ammonium laureth sulfate – to still have some power to rinse out my product.
