I have a very large oak tree in my front yard, and it's dropping leaves by the bushel. While raking and bagging leaves is a bit strenuous, I have never really considered the activity exercise.
But when I calculated the calories burned for 30 minutes of gardening versus 30 minutes of walking at a 20 minute a mile pace, gardening wins by 50 calories.

Although I'm sad that summer weather is waving us goodbye, autumn is one of my favorite times of the year. I love apple and pumpkin picking, jumping in piles of leaves with my girls, going on hikes to see the foliage, cool runs outdoors and bike rides in the park. This weather inspires me to get out and see nature.

If you have a yard and a tree, chances are high you will be spending some quality time this fall with a rake and your front lawn.
Raking leaves is not only necessary for keeping your grass alive, but the dried leaves are great to use as aeration in your compost pile or bin. As if that's not enough, it's also a great way to get some fresh air and exercise.

If you're not raking up leaves in your neck of the woods yet, you will be very soon, so I have a few tips to help make the job easier. Once you've raked the leaves into big fluffy piles, consolidate them by raking them onto a large tarp. Then, drag your leaves to their final resting place, whether it be a backyard compost pile or in the green bin.

I know what you might be thinking: "Kristen Stewart's hair is too wild for me to pull off." Not so! On the New Moon red carpet tonight, Kristen manages to turn this curly hairstyle, which could easily go more the route of high school-prom, into a funky 'do with plenty of edge.

Once the season turns, it's time to compile, and check off, all of those necessary Fall chores. From sweeping out gutters to raking up leaves, there's no end to the tasks that need attending to. My least favorite Fall chore is actually scheduling appointments with handymen and carpenters.

For times when the sultry bedhead hairstyle or tousled beach waves aren't what you're going after, why not play up the sexy side of curls with something a bit more mellow? You can still rock a come-hither look, without going the route of the old-timey roller set-style, either. At Milan Fashion Week, Hilary Swank looked stunning with waved hair that avoided being too prim and proper.

After his decisive victory in the Iowa caucuses, Mike Huckabee jetted away from the Hawkeye state in what could be the most profitable flight in history. Buoyed by the fabled Iowa "bounce," Huckabee's campaign netted $350,000 smackers while the candidate flew to the next contest in New Hampshire.
Though the extra cash is useful, it's worth noting that Clinton and Obama are expected to report fourth quarter earnings of $20 million each, while Mitt Romney banked $62 million (including $17 million of his own loot,) in the first three quarters, and in the 2004 primaries Kerry and Bush raised $250 and $280 million respectively.

Mermaid waves never go out of style, even at Fashion Week, so it's not a surprise that for the Proenza Schouler show, Frédéric Fekkai lead stylist Didier Malige was inspired by California surfer girls' tousled hair. The look was totally sexy, a little wild, and surprisingly easy to do. (And if you're so inclined, you can even spritz on a little purple and green temporary hair color to mimic the style worn by some of the models.) Fab was totally loving the chic clothing, and I liked how the creamy nude lips with smudged shadow lent a soft, party-girl effect.
