I don't know what it is about playing badminton, but that game is just so funny to me. I love the dinky racquets, the flimsy net and of course the shuttlecock (I call it a birdy) - it seems to have a mind of its own!
The game is pretty simple.

Indian police uncovered an organ selling ring that tricked or forced hundreds of impoverished Indians to sell their kidneys. ABC News reports victims were promised a job, taken to a private house for a "blood test," and forced at gun point to sell their kidneys for about $1,800. Five hundred to 600 kidneys were sold to wealthy customers, many foreigners (including two Americans) for ten times that amount.

Anger in tennis is not without precedent: Jimmy Connors and John "Superbrat" McEnroe were criticized for their oncourt outbursts at linespeople when they didn't agree on a call; they were also beloved for their passion. But a couple days ago at the US Open when Serena Williams disputed a call by getting in the linesperson's face and allegedly telling her she wanted to shove a tennis ball down her throat, some people didn't think that her punishment was enough.
Williams was fined the on-site maximum $10,000 for unsportsmanlike conduct and $500 for racket abuse, and her action caused her the match point.

I'll get straight to the cute scoop: Meet Denver's new quadruplet Red Panda cubs, only the fifth recorded quad birth at a US zoo! The yet unnamed three boys and one girl entered the world on July 9 but the tiny creatures made a whole lotta racket at their big media debut.
With a love connection set up, under the Species Survival Plan (SSP), mom, Sophia was paired with dad, He-Ping since they were an excellent genetic match to help preserve the endangered species — there's less than 2,500 left in the wild!

Crazy in love might be one way to describe Michelle Cawthra, a former Colorado Department of Revenue employee who stole $11 million in unclaimed tax refunds from her employer. With her morals blinded by love, Michelle deposited unclaimed tax refunds and other state money into her ex-boyfriend's bank accounts over the course of two years.
She received a 24-year sentence after pleading guilty to racketeering and testified, "I did things I don't think I otherwise would have done had I not been in love with him."

A US appeals court upheld a 2006 ruling today saying that cigarette makers lied about the risk of smoking and could no longer use the labels "low tar" and "light." In addition, the ruling found cigarette companies like Philip Morris guilty of racketeering and fraud.
Most of us don't need the court system to tell us that cigarettes are unhealthy and potentially deadly, but even in health-obsessed San Francisco, I see young women lighting up all the time (outside, of course).

After spending a weekend in camp country, I got nostalgic about the old beat up camp trunk I took on my childhood trips. Camps usually send a list to parents to help them prepare their kiddos for the weeks away from home, but it helps to have a second checklist to cross-reference so mama feels good about putting her sweet babe on the bus. Print this roster out and get to folding!
