I'm a huge fan of long workouts. An hour run, a 90-minute bike ride, or a three-hour snowshoe walk in the woods are a few of my faves. There's something about moving your body for an extended period of time that feels so gratifying.

One of the great concepts of Pilates is quality over quantity, and this principle applies to more than just deep ab work. When it comes to forms of cardio, like swimming and cycling, the same idea holds true.
Riding a bike and pulling your body through water are not "natural" movement patterns for humans.

A lot of us head to the gym and spend about 45 minutes on the bike while reading a book or magazine and working moderately hard. I am not knocking this behavior, since I am happy when anyone makes time for the gym, but one day a week try and do a good, quality workout. This means making everything you do count by really pushing yourself to get through it and working your hardest, i.e.

When it comes to strength training, whether you are lifting dumbbells or using machines, correct form is really important. It doesn't really matter if you can do bicep curls with 30-lb. weights if you're struggling and grunting and can't keep your back straight.

Good night, sleep tight and don't let the bedbugs bite! If only getting lil ones down to dreamland was that easy! Children have a way of pushing their bedtime to the limits by thirsting for another drink, saying they need the bathroom and sweetly asking us to read "just one more book."

On Monday I brought you the first half of my interview with Labexperiment founder Leslie Bamburg. Two years ago, Leslie Bamburg formed her company Labexperiment, an interior design business that offers an affordable professional decorator option to the design fiend who lacks mad cash. Labexperiment works on the premise that beautiful design can be affordable, individualized, and integrated to meet the resident's needs.

A drunken night on the town or romantic dinner over a good bottle of wine may seem like the perfect precursor to an evening of baby-making, but men might want to think again before pouring another cocktail. A man's sperm count can be directly affected by toxic chemicals, including alcohol. According to the Mayo Clinic, only 50 to 70 percent of a man's sperm are healthy enough to fertilize an egg.

Sedative Hypnotic Drug Warnings
In March 2007, the FDA ordered stronger warning labels on sedative hypnotic drugs. These medications include benzodiazepine and non-benzodiazepine drugs, such as zolpidem (Ambien), eszopiclone (Lunesta), ramelteon (Rozerem), and triazolam (Halcion). The FDA warned that these drugs may be associated with:
- Severe allergic reactions (anaphylaxis) and severe facial swelling (angioedema), which can occur even the first time a drug is taken
- Complex sleep-related behaviors, such as sleep driving, making phone calls, and preparing and eating food while asleep
Patients who take sleeping pills should be sure to follow the directions.
