After the infamous "marijuana pipe" photo mysteriously surfaced, Michael Phelps was suspended from competition for three months by USA Swimming. But Phelps returns to racing this weekend — his first competition since Beijing — at the USA Swimming Grand Prix in Charlotte, NC.
Riding his post-Olympic fame has been a little rocky to say the least, and the gold medal winner has had to learn how to navigate in "real life."

Unwanted publicity from former spokesperson Michael Phelps has forced cereal giant Kellogg's to think outside the box.
Last August, Kellogg's debuted its limited-edition Corn Flakes cereal boxes with the gold medalist on the cover. But when a photo of the Olympian smoking marijuana out of a bong surfaced, Phelps — and, some say, in turn, Kellogg's — were swimming in controversy.

Olympic champion Michael Phelps became the poster child for many eager brands after his unprecedented success in the Beijing 2008 Games, but there's one company who no longer wants its products associated with the swimmer.
After the golden boy's bong drama unraveled last week, most of you thought companies would be overreacting if they pulled Phelps' endorsement deals. Kellogg is the only company that has made the decision to not renew the swimmer's contract that expires at the end of this month with the explanation that his behavior is "not consistent with the image of Kellogg."

Eight people, most of whom had the unfortunate privilege of partying with Olympic great Michael Phelps, have been arrested in Richland County, SC. Seven have been charged with drug possession and one with distribution. The party where the illegal activity went down happened way back in November.

Sandwich chain Subway isn't dropping Olympian Michael Phelps as a sponsor yet — but it has removed all semblance of the swimmer from its website, and plans to delay its first TV campaign starring the gold medalist, which was originally slated for early 2009.
This is the fast-food chain's response after a photo broke last week of the Olympian smoking a bong. Immediately following the news, Kellogg's dropped its endorsement deal with the swimmer, and we wondered whether Phelps's other food sponsor, Subway, would follow the cereal maker's footsteps.

On Monday, a photo broke of Olympian Michael Phelps smoking marijuana out of a bong. The backlash was immediately palpable, with Kellogg's dropping its endorsement deal with the champion and USA Swimming suspending him from competition. Now supporters of Phelps, finding the reactions to be far too harsh, are taking matters into their own hands and petitioning to boycott Kellogg's products.

Michael Phelps managed to smile on his way into the pool in Baltimore for another training session yesterday. When reporters asked him about the infamous bong picture, he said he used "bad judgment" and denied taking drugs. You guys didn't think he should lose endorsement deals because of his actions but Kellogg announced yesterday that it is conveniently ending its contract with the swimmer, which expires this month.

In case you missed it, a photo of Michael Phelps was published in a British tabloid showing the eight-time Olympic gold medalist smoking marijuana from a bong. Although many of his teammates are supporting him, USA Swimming is not. It's suspending him from competition for three months and the financial support that comes with it.

Michael Phelps couldn't hide from the photographers as he arrived at the Loyola swimming facility in Maryland yesterday. It's been a rough week for the swimmer after the world got a view of him taking a bong hit, but getting focused on training should keep his mind off the backlash. On the plus side, most of you agreed he should keep his endorsements and it looks like he's going to.
