We don't always feel 100 percent all the time, and it's normal to feel a little nauseous, tired, or sniffly every once in a while. These are minor symptoms though, and usually go away on their own. But there are a few red flag signals our bodies flash to warn us of serious medical conditions, and they're symptoms you shouldn't pass off as nothing.

The news of Michael Jackson's death shocked us all, and while the circumstances are under investigation one element that has left people confused is how do a heart attack and sudden cardiac arrest differ.
A heart attack, sometimes referred to as myocardial infarction, occurs when there is a sudden blockage of a coronary artery that supplies blood to the heart. It is a circulation issue and can be thought of like a plumbing problem.

We all know that smoking pot regularly just isn't good for our health. It can impair learning, affect memory retention and retrieval, and cause perceptual abnormalities (where you think you hear or see something that isn't there). The smoke from marijuana is also linked to lung cancer, and now research shows that chronic pot smoking can raise a person's risk of a heart attack or stroke.

Many of you have been trained in CPR (Cardiopulmonary resuscitation), so I thought you would be interested in this new approach to the technique. Now emergency medical workers may be using a new approach to CPR called MICR. It stands for "minimally interrupted cardiac resuscitation" and it focuses on increasing blood flow to the heart and brain.

During the month of October we put an extra emphasis on Breast Cancer Awareness, which means it's easy to forget about spreading awareness about other killers among women, such as heart disease.
In the spirit of covering all grounds to keep us ladies healthy, try to adopt these five simple factors to significantly reduce your own risk of heart attack:
- Maintain a healthy diet with lots of vegetables, fruit, whole grains, fish and legumes
- Drink less than a quarter ounce of alcohol daily
- Don't smoke
- Avoid weight gain
- Be physically active
Interestingly enough, these sound quite similar to the five things you can do to reduce your risk of breast cancer.

Drug Approval
In 2006, the FDA approved the use of clopidogrel (Plavix) for patients who have had a STEMI heart attack and who will not be having angioplasty. A STEMI is a very severe type of heart attack caused by sudden and total artery blockage.
Angioplasty and Stents
Surgery with angioplasty and stents that is performed more than 3 days after a heart attack offers no advantage over standard drug therapy for clinically stable patients, indicates an important 2006 New England Journal of Medicine study.

My father introduced TM (transcendental meditation) to me my senior year of high school as a way to unwind, relax, and fight stress as I headed off to college. Since then, I've always felt lucky to know a kind of secret way to recharge my batteries, without needing a nap. But I was surprised to learn that practicing meditation has another heath benefit for your heart.

The other day FitSugar tipped me off to this new restaurant in Tempe, Arizona. Imagine you head over to your local burger joint and are greeted by a bunch of "hot nurses." Okay, to some this is a dream come true, to others a grotesque degradation to women.
