I try find the silver lining of all seemingly bad things, even high gas prices.
When I get stressed out about how much I am paying at the pump I try and remember that research has found that an increase of an additional $1 per gallon in gasoline prices will reduce US obesity by 15 percent after five years by forcing us to walk, bike, or take public transportation (more walking) instead of using our cars. Furthermore, it may even lead us to eat at home instead of out in restaurants and drive-thru.

The holiday skies and roads are not so friendly this year. Gas prices are still soaring, and outrageously priced airline tickets paired with baggage fees are keeping many families grounded this holiday season. If you're like me and fall in love with hot and geeky cars that are beyond your budget, this little robotic passenger may be just what you need. Called AIDA, this in-car robot is like your constant co-pilot, telling you real-time weather and driving conditions, suggesting alternatives from your well-driven routes if there's a problem, alerts you to tourist attractions, and helps you conserve gas by notifying you when you're cruising at optimal fuel efficiency.
All of these features are possible because AIDA analyzes and then recognizes your driving behavior, routes, and habits, then uses them to your advantage.

A survey of gas prices collected the numbers from gas pumps in 155 countries and placed the US as number 111, meaning prices are 45th cheapest out of the countries surveyed. The reason prices in the US have been comparably low is that taxes on gas have been kept to a relative minimum when measured to international standards. Some experts say that Americans are extra sensitive to hikes in gas prices because we've been spoiled by cheap gas in the past, and feel any increases more acutely than countries who are used to being taxed more.

I don't know about you, whenever I go to fill up my car with gas these days, I get mad because the cost of gas is so high and there doesn't seem to be an end in sight. I always say, nothing good can come out of this. Until now...

Last Summer the religious prayed for relief at the pump, lawmakers called for a 55 mph national speed limit to conserve fuel, and cash-strapped drivers chanted, "Drill, baby. Drill!" But today, oil goes for $40 a barrel, one-third of what it cost in July.

If a trip to the gas station has left your wallet lighter than air, it's comforting to know someone's getting fat off of fuel costs: Big Oil. BP and Royal Dutch Shell just reported massive increases in profits for the first three months of 2008. BP's gross (that's an understatement) profits rose 48 percent in the first quarter to $6.6 billion while Shell increased its profits 12 percent to a record $7.8 billion.
