If you're serious about getting in shape and eating right, documenting your plan of action and your daily progress is a great way to meet your goals. I found an easy way to keep track of all your stats — the fitbook ($20). It's 12-week fitness journal and food diary that's 5.5 square inches, so it's small enough to tuck in your purse or gym bag.

Even the most dedicated fitness fanatics can dread a workout. There's nothing wrong with taking a day off when you're just not feeling it, but when a lack of motivation persists, it's all too easy for those days off to build up into a block of sedentary time.
Staying motivated requires an understanding of purpose, so be your own coach and keep track of your fitness goals in a separate journal.

The mere act of taking some time to write down what you want to do for exercise each week could actually help you accomplish getting moving. In fact, recent research has found that people who write down what actions they are going to take each week to exercise (join a gym, run at the track, etc.), rather than just the reasons why they want to exercise (get healthy, lose weight, etc.) were inspired to exercise more. As a result, the folks who wrote about their actions saw their fitness levels skyrocket.

I like to go to the gym about three or four times a week, and I found a great way to motivate myself to go — I keep track of my workout for the day. If I use a machine, I write down how much time I was on it, my distance, my speed, and the calories burned (even though this is probably inaccurate). If I'm lifting weights, I write down each exercise, the amount of weight I lifted, and how many reps I did.

A lot of us have resolved to get healthy in 2008, this includes eating healthy, drinking more water, and exercising more. One of the best proven ways to stay on track with healthy choices is by keeping a food and fitness journal because it allows you to examine and to be accountable for your lifestyle choices.
I am not sure if you've heard yet, but I've got free downloadable food and fitness journals right here on FitSugar — they're simple, easy, and cute!

Now that it's December and 2008 is only a couple weeks away, I'm sure New Year's resolutions are on your mind. Many people have the general goal to be fit, or to exercise more, but they are not quite sure how to make that happen.
Might I suggest keeping a diet and exercise journal?

I am a big fan of journaling and writing things down to keep tally on emotions and food consumption. One area of your life you may have not considered starting a journal for is fitness.
If I don't keep a journal I have a hard time progressing on a daily basis in my goals, so in my own fitness journal I like to keep record of things such as:
- Duration and intensity
- Distance and route
- Feelings before and after
- Hurdles and accomplishments
- Goals and rewards
However, if you're the type of person who needs things more laid out for you than just jotting the above things in a notebook, then think about getting a fitness diary or journal.

Were you ever a motivated coloring queen? I am not talking about your hair; I am talking about coloring books. Even now I can hardly keep my hands off my girls' coloring books when they're diligently scribbling all over the pages.

Well, my month long journey with the Wii Fit has come to an end. Although I had a lot of fun (and lost a few pounds in the process), I'm actually excited to take my workouts to the next level! I was never a gym class sort of person, but using the Wii Fit's yoga workouts, really have me itching to get back to the gym and try out a full-fledged yoga class!
