Ashtanga Yoga: Why Avoid Drinking Water?

If you've ever walked into an Ashtanga Yoga class, I'm sure you've noticed that it's warm in the room, but not even close to as hot as Bikram. The warmth helps your muscles to loosen up slightly, but the quick-paced and strength building vinyasas between poses is what really heats up your body. Think of it as creating an inner fire that heats your body from the inside out, which helps you loosen up tight muscles. It also makes you sweat a lot, which helps in detoxification.

Drinking water during the practice prevents that heat and puts that internal fire out. Not only that, but if you stop every 10 minutes to take a sip of water, you interrupt your breathing and the flow of the sequence, which in turn will disrupt the moving meditation you've got going on.

It is very important to drink 10-12 glasses of water throughout the day so that you are well hydrated by the time you arrive at class. If you've been drinking all day, you shouldn't need to drink during class, however, if you are feeling nauseous, overheated, or dizzy - definitely listen to your body and drink water if necessary.

Fit's Tips: Depending on the class you go to, some Ashtanga Yoga instructors are very strict about this, which I personally don't agree with. As an instructor myself, I trust that my students are better able to make decisions about their own bodies. If an instructor you take class from makes you feel uncomfortable about your need for water (or anything else for that matter), talk to them after class about it. I'm sure they'd want to know how you feel.

Class Act: Mysore

If you're checking out classes at an Ashtanga yoga studio, you may come across a class called Mysore.

In a Mysore style yoga class, you lead yourself, following your own breath and a series of memorized poses, either First Series or Second Series. If you are an advanced practitioner, you may even do Third Series.

No one speaks - they only breathe. Sometimes the instructor may whisper to someone to give them help, but for the most part, there is only the ebb and flow of the breath. It's really powerful.

As you move at your own pace, moving from one pose to the next in First, Second, or Third series, the instructor walks around and adjusts or assists you. She or he may gently fix your shoulders or your hips in Warrior 1, they may press on you in Downward Dog (which feels so good), or they may help you drop back into Wheel pose from standing. The assists you get in a Mysore class really help you to improve your yoga practice tremendously.

The class is usually open for 2-3 hours, so people will walk in and start whenever they want. This may seem a little weird, but it's actually nice not to have the pressure of following the instructor's breath count. For me, it's easier to bring my awareness inward when everyone is doing their own thing.

The reason it's called Mysore, is because Mysore, India is where Sri K. Pattabhi Jois (the creator of Ashtanga Yoga) originally taught this practice. Traditionally, students would learn a pose and master it before moving on to the next pose in the series. That way, the student would memorize the entire sequence and would be able to practice them on their own.

Fit's Tips: If you can find a Mysore class or workshop, I highly recommend taking it. You'll learn a lot about your body and your personality. It will also help you to begin a home yoga practice, so you won't have to rely on going to a studio to do yoga. Since you've memorized an hour and a half of yoga postures, you can lead yourself in your own living room!

90210's Tristan Wilds Talks T.P. and Sex Tapes!

90210 recently returned from a three-month hiatus with a bang: Gia and Adrianna locked lips, Naomi bared all, and Jasper blackmailed Annie. You would think we'd expect such jaw-dropping stunts by now, but cast member Tristan Wilds (aka Dixon) says the series still surprises him. I recently asked the actor for his take on what happens on camera - and off.

The 90210 writers always think up outrageous storylines. What shocked you? First, it was the sex tape. That was amazing to me. Everything else was just wow, wow. Like, a constant wow factor. It was amazing to me that we actually touched on that. Usually that would be so taboo.
Were you surprised by the recent kiss between Adrianna and Gia? I definitely was. It seemed like we were going to go there last season, but this season, full throttle ahead and we went there. It was crazy!
What are some of your favorite scenes to film? I think the guys' scenes are really cool, because we all play off each other really well. We're always making jokes, it's always something, so it's really cool to play off the guys. Don't get me wrong, the girls are very cool to play off as well, but the guys, there's just a certain dynamic.
Is there a jokester among the boys? Yeah, I guess you can say that...[I'm] definitely cracking jokes, and playing pranks and all that good stuff, but it's all in good fun.
Any prank that was particularly good? Somebody - I won’t say who - T.P.'d Michael Steger [Navid]'s trailer. It was horrible. Toilet paper hanging from the ceiling and just all over the trailer.
Sounds like a fun family on set... We're always like family. So when I see them, I don't even call Lori "Lori," I don't call Rob "Rob," [it's] "Hi Mom," "Hi Dad."

Who do you hang out with most off set? I hang out with Michael Steger (Navid) a lot off set. I hang out with Dustin Milligan (Ethan) as well from last season. Matt (Liam) every now and then. We try to plan little dinners where all of us get together, so we always stay abreast of everyone's happenings.
So do you get recognized more for your other big role as Michael from The Wire or as Dixon from 90210? Honestly, I get either Dixon or Michael. It's one way or the other. There would be people who I would expect to watch 90210 who call me Michael, and people who I expect to watch The Wire who call me Dixon. Like, grown men. It's weird! But I definitely appreciate any type of fan love.
This new episode (airing tonight) focuses on a girl fight between Ivy and Naomi. Who is your money on? I don’t know. They're both pretty strong girls. They're like exact opposites; they're like yin and yang. It's going to be a good fight. I think Ivy's a little more scrappier, but you never know.

Jessica Simpson Returns Home With Her Future Baby-Daddy Ken

Jessica Simpson and Ken Paves finished up their most recent journey together, arriving at LAX last night right before The Price of Beauty premiered. Jessica was front and center to promote the series, but Ken was always waiting in the wings to support her and keep her smiling. On the first episode of the show, Jessica, Ken and CaCee headed to Thailand where they checked out the traditions and of course Miss Simpson had a few of her trademark goofy moments. Yesterday morning Jessica had an interview on GMA as well as The View, where things got predictably saucy. She said that John Mayer will never get her "sexual napalm" again and revealed that if she doesn't meet the right guy by 40 she'll have kids with Ken.

Jessica's in Red and Ready For The Price of Beauty's Debut

Jessica Simpson was stunning in red this morning as she headed out for an appearance on Good Morning America - her interview is after the jump. She's out and about doing the press rounds for The Price of Beauty before its premiere tonight on VH1, and her day's itinerary also included a stop by The View. It's been a busy few days for Jess, after she kicked off her stay in NYC with a stop by The Late Show last week. Jess also had time for a private concert where we got a sneak peek at her series' first episode, which was full of her trademark one-liners that we loved on Newlyweds.

Tina Fey and Michael Sheen Keep 30 Rocking Out Together

Tina Fey chatted away on her cell phone Friday while filming 30 Rock in NYC. Joining Tina was her new costar Michael Sheen, whose first episode on the series debuted on Thursday night. His character emerges as a possible romantic interest for Tina's serially unlucky-in-love character Liz Lemon, but we'll have to wait and see how far his plot line progresses. Tina's hard at work on her small screen project, but it's been a whirlwind few weeks for the Vogue cover girl. She's jet-setted across the country throughout award season, including for the Oscars, as she gets ready for Date Night to hit theaters soon on April 9.

Pop Watch: Skins - Series Four, Episode Seven "Effy"

Wow. I was speechless once I'd finished watching last night's episode of Skins - there were some fantastic performances from Kaya Scodelario, Jack O'Connell and Luke Pasqualino followed by a shock twist at the end of the show. With only one episode left with this cast - and two more series on the way with a new cast - the gang look set to go out dramatically. It kicks off with Effy talking about her brother Tony (Nicholas Hoult) and his accident - where he was hit by a bus at the end of series one. Although this works in context, it could possibly have also been a foreshadowing of tonight's shock twist.
She's talking to her doctor, Dr. John Foster, played by The Full Monty's Hugo Speer, who she's being treated by in a home. It takes her three weeks to tell him the story. He tells her to pretend it never happened.
Freddie hadn't seen Effy all the time she was away. She says she wasn't allowed visitors... but she saw Naomi?
Effy's personality has changed, she doesn't fit in with the gang anymore. Outside she meets Cook. Cook says, if they met again for the first time he'd do it all again, everything. That he still loves her.
Freddie is removed from her wall plan - she uses it to plan her everyday life now she's back in the real world. She dumps him the night after telling him that she loved him. Creepy John Foster is using techniques to help her forget, but what's his motivation?
Effy burns her belongings, and the next day she goes to see John to make her better. Instantly within the shot we see that life gets more colourful.
Cook sees her in the park and talks to her, she doesn't know who Effy is. He thinks she's playing a game, going back to what they were talking about before. He takes her out and they walk past where Tony was hit by a bus, She has a bad feeling about that place, but she doesn't know why. That memory has been wiped but it starts to come back, and she says that someone got hurt. Cook's confused but explains to Effy they know each other, that they were together in every sense of the word. The bus goes past and she freaks out and remembers that Tony was ran over. Then she says that it never happened, and she doesn't understand. Her mind is fighting with the brainwashing that John Foster has done.
He slaps her as she freaks out and she pushes him down and runs away. She stands in the middle of the road shouting that she's scared, but she can't feel it and she wants to be scared. Cook pushes her out of the way of the van and onto the side of the road.
She asks him to take her to Freddie. Once there, Cook sees that he had a bag packed - he was going to leave because his heart was broken. Cook gets angry at him, and tells him not to screw it up. This scene was one of many that was fantastically acted in tonight's episode - Jack plays Cook's responsible moments very well. They call the home, and she's sectioned again.
When Effy wakes up, she says she's back where she was, both physically and in her mind. Freddie tells her they will be together. She sees John Foster and says that she doesn't want to see him anymore. Freddie squares up to him and tells him to stay away from Effy.
John Foster invites Freddie to his house and Fred reiterates that he has to stay away. John says he got too close and he cares too much. Freddie walks away from him to leave, but the front door is locked. And John has a baseball bat.
Behind the glass, John beats him to death. Blood spatters on the window. SHOCK ENDING!!!!

RIP Freddie. Oh my goodness, I was not expecting that! So, what did you think?

Tracy was styled head-to-toe in H&M's new Garden Collection (which is available in stores March 25!), had her hair done by the amazing Sally Hershberger Salon team of Rodrigo Padilla and Erin Bogart, and her flawless makeup was thanks to Benefit's global trend artist Maggie Ford Danielson- so clearly she looked incredible! PopSugarUK Exclusive: Ollie Barbieri Talks Skins, Cast Friendships, AS Levels and the Future

Last week I chatted to Skins star Ollie Barbieri about his experiences on set and series four. In part one he talked about his character and described his fellow castmates. In the second and final part, he talks about friendships on set - particularly the ones with Jack O'Connell and Luke Pasqualino - music he's currently listening to and his hopes for the future!

The cast seem to get on really well. Does that help or hinder when you have to work on intense scenes? Is anyone known for breaking into giggles? "Kaya and Lisa would very often break down into uncontrollable fits of laughter over something completely trivial and unfunny to the rest of us. Laughter was severely infectious on set."
The friendship between JJ, Cook and Freddie is one of the best depictions of young male friendship on TV - how do you, Jack and Luke make sure that it comes across so well on screen? "I think it helps that we get on so well off screen too. We just sort of translate our real friendship into the friendship between our characters, which is why it shows through so well. If we hated each other, you'd definitely be able to tell."
Do you all socialise outside of filming the show? "Yes, when we get the opportunity. It's quite difficult, because everyone is always so busy, but for some reason, whenever I'm in London, I always run into Kaya."

What did you do during your time off between the two series? "Went back to school. Struggled with my AS levels and missed filming Skins."
Which of the cast is most like their character? And the least? "That's a difficult question, all of us share certain qualities with our characters, else we probably wouldn't have got the jobs. I don't think I could fool anyone by saying I was the complete antithesis of JJ, I'm a bit of a geek too. Though I will also say this, Lisa has her Pandora moments."
Skins has a fantastic soundtrack. Who are the artists you’re listening to the most right now? "At the moment I'm listening to loads of different stuff. Asobi Seksu (their music is all over Skins), The Who, The Real Tuesday Weld, Stenchman, Doctor P, Emalkay, Danny Byrd, Foreign Beggars and anything else that comes on shuffle."
The first cast have gone on to do some really exciting projects, is there any role you would love to take on? "I'm up for anything. I'd really like to play a character who is very different to JJ, I'd really like that challenge. Of course I'd love to pull a Dev and land a role in a massive, award winning film, but hey, time will tell."
What’s coming up for you in the future? "Exams. Exams and with any luck, some more acting."
