The majority of Fit readers call themselves carb queens, and Winter can make those carbohydrate cravings even more intense. But have no fear: scientists are finding even more reasons not to avoid this essential food group.
A recent study of more than 100 obese and overweight adults in Australia found that dieting put people in a better mood; a drop in pounds led to increased satisfaction.

Chris Rock's first shot at a documentary was spurred on by a simple question his daughter asked: "Daddy, why don't I have good hair?" Good Hair is Rock's quest to find out what that is, and why we — men and women, black and white — care so much.
It's not a race relations angle as much as the trailer makes it seem, but rather an investigation into the phenomenon his two young daughters are growing up into: that straight European hair is what's desirable, beautiful, and worth lots of money and pain to get.

If you're a runner, you're probably familiar with runner's high. You know — that energetic, overwhelmingly awesome feeling you experience after a workout that makes you feel like the happiest person alive. The feel-good sensations come when endorphins are released from your brain, and new research shows that a runner's high mimics the same sense of euphoria as drug use.

Causes
- People with fibromyalgia have decreased activity in opioid receptors in parts of the brain that affect mood and the emotional aspect of pain, researchers have found. This might explain why fibromyalgia patients are likely to experience depression, and are not very responsive to opioid painkillers.
- Researchers have identified a conflict between sensory perception and nervous system processing in people with fibromyalgia. One study suggests that people with the condition might have greater awareness of, or less tolerance for, movement problems (such as tremor) that don't match with their expected sensory feedback.

I'm a recent convert to Clean & Clear Makeup Dissolving Cleanser ($6), but I'm glad I found it. It's cheap, it's a pretty good makeup remover, and it washes completely off like a regular foaming cleanser. Best of all, it's easy.

HEALTH GUIDE REFERENCE FROM A.D.A.M
Highlights
Causes
- Four out of five people with chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) are infected with an enterovirus -- one of the viruses that cause respiratory and gastrointestinal infections -- compared with only one out of five healthy people. The virus might be a trigger for CFS, although research has not yet confirmed a cause-and-effect relationship.
Diagnosis
- According to new guidelines, symptoms that suggest a diagnosis of CFS include disabling fatigue that starts suddenly, lasts a long time, keeps coming back, and can't be explained by another condition. Other symptoms may include difficulty concentrating or sleeping, dizziness, headaches, muscle or joint pain, sore throat, and palpitations.

Smoking and Skin Damage
- The skin of smokers ages more rapidly than the skin of non-smokers, even in areas of the body not exposed to sunlight, according to a 2007 study. Women in the study who smoked also had much lower levels of vitamin E secretions in their skin. Vitamin E may protect the skin from sun damage.
- There may be an association between smoking and higher frequency of a type of acne (noninflammatory acne) in adult women, according to a European study.
Antioxidants and Your Skin
- A study in the Journal of Nutrition found that a combination of antioxidants and trace elements supplementation raises the risk of skin cancer in women, but not in men.
Ultraviolet Radiation
- Overall, exposure to ultraviolet radiation from sunlight (radiation referred to as UVA or UVB) accounts for about 90% of the symptoms of premature skin aging.
- UVB primarily affects the outer skin layers.
