One of the healthiest cities for women, San Francisco, is looking to take healthy to a whole new level.
Gavin Newsom, the mayor of San Francisco, has proposed charging big stores a fee when they sell any soft drinks with high-fructose corn syrup. The fee is still to be determined however, if the bill were approved, money generated from the fee would go toward a city program that emphasizes exercise, diet and other preventative health measures.

There has been much discussion over a so called "Fat Tax" - a tax on salty, sugary and fatty foods in Britain. A Fat Tax could save thousands of lives each year, but it's going to cost you as a consumer. The proposed Fat Tax would raise average weekly household bills by 4.6 percent -- Yikes!

America's soda obsession is believed to contribute to our issue of obesity. New York City is fighting back with its Don't Drink Yourself Fat ad campaign, but public health leaders want to do more.
For a while now, there's been talk about issuing a soda tax to reduce the consumption of calorie-loaded beverages including sodas, sugary fruit drinks, and energy drinks, to help lower the rate of obesity.

A couple of years ago the Cardio Free Diet introduced popular culture to the concept that exercise and weight loss were incompatible. Recently we learned that exercise doesn't boost fat-burning. Now Time magazine's new cover story investigates the seemingly detrimental relationship even further.

- Smoking may worsen knee osteoarthritis in men. A study published in the Annals of Rheumatic Disease found that male smokers have more pain and cartilage loss than men who do not smoke. Previous studies have not found such a link.

Drug Approval
In 2007, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved lisdexamfetamine (Vysvanse), a new stimulant drug for the treatment of attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). The active ingredient in lisdexamfetamine is similar to dextroamphetamine, the drug used in Dexedrine and Adderall.
Drug Warning
In 2007, the FDA instructed the manufacturers of all ADHD drugs to include drug warning labels describing the risks for heart and psychiatric side effects.

Fruit and nut bars are all the craze now, and I'm loving them. I appreciate that they're made from whole foods, and that they don't contain any weird ingredients or preservatives.
When I see a new brand of these bars on the shelves, I have to give it a try like this Weil bar.
