Hollywood Fitness Advice From the Twitterverse

A while back, we shared with you that celebrity trainers are using Twitter, which is great for us ordinary folk. Following celeb trainers on Twitter is a great way to get the same advice that clients like Lauren Conrad, Lady Gaga, and Anne Hathaway get, except we don't have to pay! I know that a tweet isn't like getting a one-on-one boot camp workout with David Kirsch, but if he's handing out free fitness advice, I'm listening.

Check out the latest tweets from our celeb trainers - there's some pretty useful advice on how we can all stay healthy and fit during this holiday season.

Jarret Del Bene (Lauren Conrad, Whitney Port): "Make sure you use a challenging weight that allows you to complete your desired reps when performing exercises."

David Kirsch (Heidi Klum, Anne Hathaway): "I'm hearing more people say they are going to start exercising in January. Don't put off what is good for your body today."

Harley Pasternak (Lady Gaga, Vanessa Williams): "I am obsessed with Soba noodles. They are high in protein, selenium, and zinc and are gluten free. Japanese diets rule!"

To see what Biggest Loser trainers Jillian Michaels and Bob Harper are tweeting, read more.

Jillian Michaels (Maria Shriver): "When it comes to veggies always go with darker color - it means strong medicine."

Bob Harper (Selma Blair, Ellen DeGeneres): "[Your] challenge today, try acai berries for tons of vitamin C!"

Shape Your Tush With Tips From Booty Master David Kirsch

Celebrity trainer David Kirsch's tips are all about the backside in his aptly titled upcoming book, Butt Book. Supermodel Karolina Kurkova was so impressed with Kirsch's ability to shape her booty that she affectionately calls him "Master of the Ass." High praise from someone whose job is looking hot in little clothing.

While promoting his book, the master shared some of his sculpting tips with Shape and suggests doing a variety of moves, like sumo lunges, platypus walk, and plié squats. To see what he recommends for people who worry about their quadriceps becoming bulky while strengthening and shaping their booty, read more.

Kirsch told Shape that anyone worried about bulking up their quads should stay away from traditional squats and explained,

They're going to [want] do a wide-stance squat or a plié squat, which is second position dance, opening up your legs and bringing the focus to the inner thighs and not to the quads. Don't use excessive weight and keep repetitions high. I use body weight or a medicine ball or light hand weights.

There you have it, from the master himself. Would you buy his book that's all about achieving your ideal booty?

Celebrity Trainer David Kirsch Loves Push-Ups and Hates Processed Carbs

Celeb trainer David Kirsch took time out of his busy schedule - his days start with a 5 a.m. workout before training clients at his gym in Manhattan - to speak with me yesterday. David helped Heidi Klum walk gorgeously down the runway eight weeks after having her third child. His client list also includes Anne Hathaway, Liv Tyler, and Faith Hill.

He launched his Summer Slimdown program for free, so I decided the time was right to ask him for more fitness advice. Always curious what personal trainers do for exercise, I asked David his favorite core move; he recommends planks, and planks rolling into a T-position, as well as work on the stability ball. Kirsch believes in fitting fitness into a busy life, and when pressed for time push-ups are the one move he thinks you should do.

When I asked him how I could increase my metabolism he told me:
“You have to move your body faster to burn more calories. Combine good strength training exercises with a form of cardio, and it doesn’t have to be running. It can be circuit training or one of my boot camps as long as it keeps your heart rate up.” He follows his own advice. His early morning 45-minutes workouts are heart pumping circuits, which he does four to five days a week.

Learn David’s favorite foods and what he thinks about “cheat days,” when you read more.

When it comes to diet, David believes in eating well and listed salmon burgers, quinoa, and beans among his favorite foods. I asked if he believes in cheat days and he wholeheartedly replied, “Sure! But be smart about it. Pick a meal, or a certain food, but don’t eat five million pieces of it.” Once again, we learn from an expert that moderation is key. David also loves to cook and prepares Thanksgiving dinner for 30 to 40 guests every year. I asked him if he used butter for his T-day dishes and he said, “No” before I could say the second syllable of butter. His stuffing does sound divine: cornbread with chestnuts, herbs, turkey sausage, red peppers, apples, and apricots.

David does have a couple of suggestions on how to get beach ready. First he suggests that you fine-tune your diet, limit dairy, get rid of cheese completely, and stay away from processed carbs. Secondly, he says, “You should assess your body and see where you need work and be strategic. Do more plié squats if the inner thighs need toning. Do more Pilates if your abs need toning. Do push-ups if the triceps need toning. Maybe you need a little bit of all over toning so do it all over. Be strategic and come up with a process that is good for you."

Source

Recession Proof Your Fitness: David Kirsch's Free Ultimate Summer Slimdown

Memorial Day comes a bit early this year, which means we have a little over three weeks to get ready for opening beach day. While you are looking for a program to tighten your abs, celebrity trainer David Kirsch knows that times are tight. After training the likes of Heidi Klum and Anne Hathaway, David is sharing his Ultimate Summer Slimdown for free. Sign up today, since the program starts tomorrow. Kirsch has created an exercise plan designed to maximize fat and calorie burning. It is rigorous, but he will also supply you with a daily dose of motivation and healthy recipes to fuel your workouts.

I received a sneak peek at the program, so learn more about it when you read more.

The first sculpting workout is 45 minutes long and works every muscle. This workout is designed to keep your heart rate up while toning and using a medicine ball, an exercise ball, and hand weights. If you don't have those exercise accessories, get creative.

The moves look fun and challenging, like this plyometric exercise that almost reads like a haiku: sumo lunge with side kick and frog jump. You are asked to combine this workout with another 45 minutes of cardio. Signing up for the challenge is one thing, but David asks that you really dedicate the next three weeks to whipping yourself in shape with his workouts, recipes, and motivation.

Speaking of recipes, check out David's turkey lasagna.

David Kirsch's Turkey Lasagna
David Kirsch's Ultimate Summer Slimdown

Ingredients

Lasagna
½ small eggplant, cut lengthwise in ¼ inch slices
Pinch freshly ground pepper
Pinch cayenne pepper
½ small zucchini, cut lengthwise in ¼ inch slices
4 ounces ground turkey breast
¼ teaspoon ground coriander
½ cup *Marinara Sauce
1 teaspoon chopped fresh basil

Marinara Sauce
1 Vidalia onion, chopped
6 plum tomatoes, chopped
1 cup chopped canned tomatoes
½ cup fresh basil leaves, finely chopped

Directions
Lasagna:

Preheat oven to 400 F.

Lightly coat a nonstick cookie sheet with nonfat vegetable cooking spray. Place eggplant and zucchini slices on the sheet, cover with foil, and bake for about 15 minutes or until slices are soft. Remove from oven and set aside.

Heat a skillet over medium heat and coat with nonfat vegetable cooking spray. Place ground turkey, coriander, black pepper, and cayenne pepper in the skillet and sauté until brown-approximately 3 to 4 minutes.

Lasagna assembly: Lightly spray an ovenproof baking dish with nonfat vegetable cooking spray. Alternate layers of baked eggplant, ground turkey, marinara sauce, and baked zucchini. Top with marinara sauce. Repeat the process if necessary.

Bake for 15 minutes or until heated through.

Top with chopped fresh basil.

Marinara Sauce:

Anne Hathaway Drinks Thermo Bubbles to Boost Fat Burning

Hollywood is getting ready for the Oscars, and Us Weekly is making us privy to celebs' red-carpet secrets. Among their arsenal of tricks is trainer David Kirsch's Thermo Bubbles ($40 for 10 servings). Supposedly Anne Hathaway, among other actresses and models, partake in this herbal drink that claims to "melt away the fat naturally" along with boosting energy and metabolism levels.

Each 16-oz. serving contains 10 calories with no added sugar. Its ingredients are white tea, guarana (which makes the list of a prominent cardiologist's dangerous diet supplements), ginseng, and green tea. The energy boost probably comes from the caffeine in the green tea. Drinking this fizzy beverage, made from powder you add to water, is said to curb appetites, and the website claims Thermo Bubbles won't give you the jitters or make you crash like coffee or other energy drinks can.

To find out if this can help you lose weight read more.

I don't believe this is the magic pill to make fat melt away, and I am not a fan of appetite suppressants. Your body needs calories to burn in order to function. Kirsch recommends drinking his bubbly twice a day, making this an expensive habit - well over $50 a week. But what happens when you stop drinking it? Will your raging appetite return? The best way to lose weight is to exercise and limit your calorie intake under the amount of calories you're burning, without dipping under 1200 calories a day. Why not just drink some green tea, which is considerably cheaper and offers a bevy of health benefits? Or try these five foods to boost your metabolism.

After several pregnancies, we have seen her weight fluctuate with the best of them, but she always looked amazing.

So AOL reported on how the body got her body back in catwalk shape:

When Heidi Klum, who reportedly gained 48 pounds while pregnant, hit the catwalk just seven weeks after delivering her son, Henry, she showed off a slender body that was the result of intense workouts with a trainer. Heidi also followed a plan similar to the 3-Hour Diet, in which she ate small meals every three hours.

Today's Special: Turkey Bacon, Spinach & Egg White Frittata

Eggs are making a serious comeback as more and more chefs are using them in dishes outside of breakfast. I never understood why eggs were considered an ingredient basically for breakfast. They are as versatile as potatoes and can be prepared in many different ways, so why only eat them in the morning? Frittatas make a healthy and delightful egg-based dinner packed with protein and vegetables. Throw in some whole grain wheat toast or a crisp green salad dressed with a light vinaigrette, and a glass of wine and dinner is served! This recipe is super healthy made with egg whites, fat free milk, and turkey bacon. However if you aren't watching your weight by all means use the whole egg (to me the yolks are the best part!), regular milk, and smoky pork bacon. To celebrate eggs in all their delicious glory, read more

Heidi Klum's Post Baby Body

Heidi Klum hit the Victoria's Secret runway 8 weeks after she gave birth. How did she do that? Here's some more details on how Heidi did it.

David Kirsch's The Ultimate New York Diet was the answer.

Phase 1: The 1st 2 weeks Heidi avoided all foods that cause bloating. That means no dairy and no fruit and more energy.

Phase 2: Eat really healthy carbs like lentils and beef. Heidi's favorite was tuna, quinoa, and tomatoes.

Phase 3: Load up on lean proteins such as lean meats, a lentil loaf, or a bowl of eggs (Yum?).

Some extra tips: Down a protein shake when you need a quick snack - just a little water, a packet of protein and a hand blender and you're all set. Add whey protein, fiber, and flax seed to get the fiber fruit would give you without all the sugar.

Keep a bowl of hard-boiled eggs on hand - pop one every time you feel hungry.

Want to know what else? Then read more

Exercise while you diet (duh). David says to get off the treadmill and get on the rowing machine - "it's a bigger bang for your buck."

Eat 5 meals a day, "every 3 hours... Eat from 7 am to 7 pm. Outside of that is the red zone," David says.

Some rules: No alcohol, no bread, no starchy carbs.

David says, "Here's the reality, the New York way, you have 5 minutes to grab a meal, all you need to do is pop a really good protein shake." Sounds really satisfying.

Well there you have it. Now I didn't say this "diet" was fun or healthy, and it's definitely NOT something that should be done long-term. It's sad what celebrities have to do to their bodies.
