We now know how high in calories the food we buy at the movie theater concession stand really is, so we need to find an alternative because watching a movie and snacking go hand in hand.
I have yet to really figure out how frowned upon it really is to sneak snacks into the movie theater, but as far as I'm concerned if they aren't offering healthy alternatives, it is the only option.
Healthier alternatives for snacking at the movies:
- Air popped popcorn with no butter or salt added
- Fruit that you can pop in your mouth (as you would Starburst) such as grapes or berries
- Nutrition/energy bars like nectar bars from Cliff
- High Fiber Cereal such as Kashi that you can pop in your mouth
The key is to bring items that are easy to bring in and easy to eat that won't be super distracting to you (or the other movie goers).

This holiday season many of us will be flocking to the movies to see the latest and greatest hitting the theaters.
Unfortunately we may not realize that the snacks we are paying WAY too much for have WAY more calories than we may realize. So to help you through, I've broken down some movie theater favorites:
Large Buttered Popcorn (20 cups): 1500 calories, 116g fat, 90g carbs
Hot Dog (1 dog with bun): 305 calories, 4.5g fat, 23g carbs
Nachos with Cheese (large, 4 oz): 1101 calories, 59g fat, 131.5g carbs
Soft Pretzel (large): 483 calories, 4.5g fat, 99g carbs
Cotton Candy (2.5 oz): 300 calories, 0g fat, 74g carbs

The New York Yankees and Mets may have no problem filling their seats but the city's minor league team, the Brooklyn Cyclones, may steal mamas' hearts all over the Manhattan area. In a tribute to expectant ladies, the team hosted an unusual, but incredibly awesome event: Bellies and Baseball: A Salute to Pregnancy.
Before last night's game, the team offered a Lamaze class in center field and allowed pregnant women to run the bases barefoot!

Weekends are fabulous because they allow us time to step away from the office and relax (hopefully). Sometimes though, we go all out on the weekend, and it can be a big step backwards in terms of our health goals. If you've found that last weekend did a number on your diet, don't fret over it too much.

It's Friday (score!), which means many of us will head out for a weekend flick. Sitting in the theater without a salty or sweet treat is simply not favorable, but neither are concession stand prices. Paying premium prices for a movie ticket and snacks pushes a relaxed evening into expensive territory, and smuggling treats is a much cheaper alternative.

Get ready to celebrate, today is National Nachos Day! Like many other delicious dishes, nachos were invented accidentally; chef Ignacio "Nacho" Anaya threw together a dish using leftover ingredients he had on hand. In 1943, Anaya was the head cook at the Victory Club in the Mexican city of Coahuila.

The key to dressing for a night at the movies is comfort. You're sitting down for a couple hours, at least, and snacking on forbidden junk food (no judgement!). But you don't want to look like you just rolled out of bed and headed to the theater...you never know who you'll run into at the concession stand.

Joey Buttafuoco on Desperate Housewives
Joey Buttafuoco will not be acting n the show. He is simply working a concession stand, serving up frozen treats to the casts and crews. Now that's desperate.
