I just read an article in the LA Times that struck a nerve with me, and I have a feeling you will all agree. This Fall, the Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary will be offering a class on how to be a better housewife — a class only open to women, of course! This academic program will offer lectures on laundering stubborn stains and how to bake chocolate-chip cookies.

I am always looking for a way to do something new, fitness wise. At one point, step aerobics was the latest thing, but that time has since come and gone. You'll still find step classes in almost every gym, but they are not nearly as popular as they once were.

I am always looking for ways to keep exercising interesting and it's not always been too easy but with the explosion of group classes, there are so many options.
My latest favorite is Punk Rope, a cross between third grade recess (double dutch y'all) and boot camp. Punk Rope combines conditioning drills, rope jumping and core and flexibility training for a very creative, effective, edgy workout.

I won't lie, the name caught my attention: Skinny Jeans Workout, a place where denim and my hamstrings collide. I find the fashion / fitness connection slightly amusing, but the 45 minute class left me more than slightly sweaty. It truly is a sculpting workout that borrows from a diverse array of fitness methods.

In the mood for something with a little more action than a chill jog in the park? Try out an African dance class. Classes are most often accompanied by live musicians, mostly drummers, so the energy practically busts through the roof.

I would like to work a few group fitness classes into my workout life. Running alone can get a little lonely. Whether it's Nia, Zumba, or an Anusara Yoga class, I like the class size to have at least 15 people.

Hey Fit! On several occasions I have taken a new group class and absolutely hated everything about it.

When starting a new group exercise class, you should show up prepared to help make the class go as smoothly as possible so you can enjoy it and think about going back for round two.
Here are a few tips for being prepared for a new class:
- Have an open mind. It's new and chances are it's going to be hard.
