It seems odd to me that February is National Cherry Month — the earliest I ever see cherries at my farmers market is in May. But George Washington will forever be associated with cherry trees, and since February is his b-day month, it sort of makes sense that cherries get thrown into the party.
Being such a lover of all things cherry, I usually don't wait until the Summer to indulge in this sweet treat.

Can you believe it's already February?! It's a short month that's jam packed with activities and celebrations: the Super Bowl, Valentine's Day, Chinese New Year, Mardi Gras, the Winter Olympics, the South Beach Food and Wine Festival — we're overwhelmed just thinking of all the cooking, eating, and partying that's to come! Luckily there are a few treats that will help us get through the next 28 days.

Never underestimate the power of the Christmas cookie! They're the perfect dessert around the holidays because they can be made in advance and are easy to enjoy without a plate and silverware. When hosting a holiday happy hour, offer homemade white chocolate cherry cookies and ask guests to bring chocolate truffles.

I've wanted to make my own cherry cordial for the longest time, so when it was time to get started on our 12 Days of Edible Gifts, I knew exactly what I'd be making. For those of you who aren't familiar with cherry bounce, it's nothing new. It's rather old, in fact — colonialists and pilgrims were known to drink it, and Martha Washington famously recorded her recipe for cherry bounce, which she served during the holidays and other special occasions.

The Black Forest is a wooded region in Southwestern Germany. It's from this area that Black Forest ham and Black Forest cake originated. Traditionally the confection consists of layers of chocolate cake, kirsch, and sour cherries, but this recipe uses those ingredients to make crumb bars.

No season premiere party is complete without a special drink, especially if the show in question is Gossip Girl, where the characters seem to be constantly guzzling cocktails. All the recipes I'm making next Monday night were created by acclaimed New York City chefs: Daniel Boulud, Mario Batali, Eric Ripert — Blair and Serena have surely dined at their respective restaurants.
Not to be forgotten is Jean-Georges Vongerichten.

I've noticed that days are slowly becoming shorter, but instead of mourning the passing of another Summer, I am eating all the wonderful fruits the season has to offer.
On the top of my list today are cherries, and here are five reasons you should pick some up today.
Bing and Ranier cherries are truly nature's candy.

To me, one of the sweetest rewards of waiting all year long for warm weather is the sweet-tart, firm, ink-red cherries that flourish for a short season. After ogling Party's cherry pie, I decided it was high time I make my own pastry with this beloved stone fruit. Nothing's more summery than a fruit cobbler, still piping hot from the oven and covered with moist biscuit dough.

A year ago I saw this cocktail in Food & Wine. I wasn't much of a gin drinker, but thought it would be delicious with vodka. I printed the recipe and like many recipes, it was forgotten, left untouched in a stack of recipes I once considered making.

Do You Eat Bruised Fruit?
Yes. A bruise doesn't affect the flavor of the fruit.
