No matter how frugal you are, and how many cost-saving measures you employ food costs probably make up a sizeable chunk of your budget. But what if they didn’t? What if you could spend very, very little on food — say, $1 a day — and use those savings elsewhere?

Even if you didn’t make (or stick to) any Savvy resolutions this new year, or didn’t manage to give up a spendy habit for Lent, it’s never too late to clean up your finances and get yourself on the right track. Spring finally arrives this Sunday, so take some time this week to Spring clean your finances and start the season off right. Not sure where to start?

These days, since everyone’s so busy, what better way to get friends together than at a red carpet Oscars party? Have a cheap girls night “out” in the comfort of your own home and make the night all about food, fun, and friends!

In a perfect world, I'd never experience another layover. Ever. Yet, even though the closest airport serves most of my standard routes, I still find myself making those familiar connections when visiting family that don't live near a hub.

When your income and expenses are nearly the same, it's time to create a budget. Want to purchase something that you couldn't afford unless you charged it on a credit card? Budgeting would be the answer.

Between New Year’s resolutions and Lent, we’ve all been focused on giving things up, spending smartly, and saving wisely. But amid all that scrimping and saving, Get Rich Slowly reminds us that it’s important to allow ourselves a little wiggle room.
Just as swearing off all sweets is a sure way to blow your diet, swearing off all splurges can put any budget in jeopardy.

Every so often, I find myself feeling a little restless with some aspect of my life or another: my wardrobe, my apartment’s décor, my Friday night routine. Yesterday I kicked off a 40-day Savvy Savings Challenge. I've committed to forgo all unnecessary spending — most notably I won't be driving to work for convenience or clothes shopping — for all of Lent. I've invited you all to join in the savings group and make your own sacrifices, and I hope you will because I need cheerleaders (and I want people to celebrate with come Easter!).

Strap on your stilettos and grab the party dress and parka because Fashion Week is in full swing in NYC! While FabSugar and BellaSugar get an intimate tour of the lovely designs and looks, I'm back home ogling the goods from my desk in San Francisco.
Spendy designer threads are outside of my monthly budget, but I can't help lust after gorgeous outfits and seek the look for less.

Interior stylist, author, and owner of London shop Caravan, Emily Chalmers has made a career out of finding beauty in objects that require more ingenuity than income. Cheap Chic ($20), which was originally published in 2003 in hardcover, will be released at the end of this month in paperback, and is a perfect example of her talent at transforming overlooked secondhand objects into things of beauty.
I was lucky enough to take a peek at the book thanks to a review copy from the publishers.
