It can be agonizingly boring though, so here are some suggestions from FitSugar readers to help beat the boredom and make your cardio machine time more enjoyable.

A few weeks ago I asked you guys to tell me what your favorite ways to exercise are, and you all gave me some great responses — I'm even motivated to do a little more dancing and dust off the old Rollerblades.
After tallying up all the votes, I've narrowed down the most popular activities. So for the most desirable ways to exercise, just read more

A lot of people tell me that they just cannot run on the treadmill because it's just too dang boring — plain old running at 6.0 mph for 40 minutes. To that I say, no kidding. I couldn't agree more.

I know the title of this post seems odd so I am just going to start by clarifying that no, I do not think you should start a running group where you read as you run. For many reasons, this is not a good idea.
However, a great idea to beat boredom while working out is to get a book club together where after you all read the book, you bring the discussion outside during a group jog or walk.

If you always run (or walk) the same route every time you run, next time, run your route in reverse.
No, I am not telling you to run backwards, but just run in the opposite direction. For example, say you always run from your house to the park, around the pond and down the big hill back to your house; this time run up the big hill from your house, around the pond, through the park and back to your house.

Since running is one of my favorite forms of cardio, I'm a big fan of the treadmill when I can't get outside for a run. I'm also big into the elliptical, and by the looks of my gym, it appears tons of other people are too. While it's a popular piece of gym equipment for so many reasons, there are also some disadvantages to using one.

One way I beat boredom while doing cardio inside is to watch movies. I'll start one and watch about 30 minutes or more, and then the next time I work out, I'm excited to continue where I left off in the flick. I'm lucky to have a machine at home I can walk or run on, but if you don't, check out Cardio Theater.

Most of us covered in cold and snow are forced to move our runs inside. If you don't have access to an indoor track, then a treadmill is the next best thing. While I'm grateful that this machine allows me to keep up with my runs, the repetition of staying in one spot can be beyond boring.

Here we are not yet into Summer and many of us are already getting bored with our workout routines. Feeling bored after doing something more than once or twice is totally normal. Why do you think I use a different cardio machine every time I go to the gym?
