Would You Eat This Taco Salad?

While it's true that airlines have recently expanded their food offerings, the airport still dominates the market when it comes to travel meals. But - like Party and I witnessed during last year's trip to Aspen - airport food often falls incredibly flat. During recent travels, I experienced something similar when I ordered what I expected to be a taco salad, only to be greeted by a heaping pile of white rice, stringy chicken, overcooked corn, and wilted cilantro. Although I was starving, I was also completely grossed out, and tossed my takeout after just a few bites. Does this bowl of overcooked matter look like something you'd be willing to eat?

Would You Eat From These Vending Machines?

I was at a New York airport recently when I came across these vending machines. Rather than vending typical fare like chips and sodas, these machines sold warmed-up hot dogs, fries, onion rings, and other prepared foods. I wasn't hungry (and I was about to miss my flight), so I didn't spring for them, but otherwise I might have. What about you - would you have given them a try?

Do You Dine in Airport Restaurants?

When PartySugar and I attended the Food and Wine Classic in Aspen, we ended up changing flights around dinner time. Being a bit peckish, and always in the mood to eat, we headed straight for the airport restaurant to grab some food. When we got there I remembered a friend of mine who never eats in airports. She feels they're too expensive and overpriced. I agree, but sometimes you need food. What do you think? Do you eat in airport restaurants?

I'm not afraid to admit it, PartySugar and I actually chowed through this plate of nachos. It was late, we were waiting for a plane, and we were hungry. And as always, nachos sounded great. When they arrived we were disappointed by the canned cheese, the ice cream scoop of sour cream, the rubbery chicken, and the processed guacamole, but that didn't stop us. Tell me, would it have stopped you, or would you have eaten these nachos?

Morimoto to Bring Yakatori to the Traveling Masses

Iron Chef Masaharu Morimoto's got a new project in the works. Yesterday the hospitality company Delaware North Cos announced a partnership with the sushi master, with plans to launch Skewers, a new fast-casual airport restaurant chain.

Although no sushi will be on the menu, the concept will offer travelers easily portable meals like soups and salads, as well as a variety of skewered meats and vegetables.

Known as yakitori in Japan, skewers are an incredibly popular street food and Morimoto hopes to introduce the world to his interpretation of it. "Yakitori is the next big wave, I think," Morimoto said, adding confidently, "It will be very popular."

While the rollout dates and details concerning the locations have not been released, I think the idea sounds interesting. I've yet to experience yakitori and am curious to see how Morimoto translates it to the masses. How about you? Have you had yakitori? Will Morimoto's latest endeavor be a success?

Atlantis Adventure: Is It a Destination For Your Family?

It's better in the Bahamas! As we hunker down for six more weeks of Winter, a Caribbean getaway sounds like heaven. Many island hotels are offering last-minute deals to escape from the cold, but how do you know if one is right for your family? As guests of Atlantis, JetBlue, and LEGO, we got an inside look at what the resort is doing to accommodate families.

A beautiful and expansive resort, Atlantis is situated on picturesque Paradise Island, a 40-minute drive from the Nassau airport. With four distinctive rooming options, we were situated in the Royal Towers, the resort’s original accommodations, where a standard room with two double beds provided plenty of space (and gorgeous views) to spread out and relax. While I would have loved to stay in the more luxurious and hip Cove area, it has a strict "no children" policy, which is probably best given its outdoor bars and gambling.

Atlantis’s water park, Aquaventure, has 141 acres of water slides, lazy rivers, pools, and sprinklers that are second to none. Three of the resort’s 11 pools are designed specifically for kids, with zero-barrier entries, in-pool jungle gyms, and ample lifeguards. Most of the park’s 18 water slides are for kids over 48 inches, though there are a handful created with lil ones in mind (you wouldn’t want your little ones on the bigger slides - trust me!). But if your tyke is anything like mine (and the dozens of others I observed), the rapid river ride, The Current, is perfect.

By far the highlight of our visit was the shallow water dolphin interaction. The hour-long Dolphin Cay experience included kissing the dolphins, learning about their mating habits, and watching their water show. My son is still talking about it. We were equally impressed with the pristine white sand beaches.

In the evenings, the resort has plenty of activities to occupy youngsters with its own version of Build-A-Bear, pottery painting, remote control car building and racing, and free nightly movies.

Where the resort seems to be lacking is in its dining options. Food at the resort is expensive, very expensive. To curb the costs, Atlantis offers two dining plans starting at $75 per day for adults and $35 for children over 6 years old. We tried several of the restaurants on the plan and, save a bountiful breakfast buffet, found the food to be mediocre. If I were to do it on my own, I would forgo a dining plan, stock up on cereal for the room, eat poolside for lunch, and save my money for dinner at the resort's more notable restaurants.

In all, Atlantis is a luxurious destination for those with money to spare (current promotions start at 5 days/4 nights for $499 per adult) . With the water park, animal interactions, AKA kids club, and a LEGO fantasy camp that is debuting this Summer (featuring building activities, the dolphin interaction, beach games, and more), there are plenty of activities to keep families busy. Parents with kids over 48 inches will be able to enjoy the bulk of Atlantis's amenities, but even families with smaller kids can experience the best of what the resort has to offer.

Cambodia Chic: Hotel de la Paix

After Hong Kong, we traipsed off to Cambodia, where the people were unbelievably warm and welcoming, the food was delicious and cheap, and the sites were beautiful! When we disembarked the plane in Siem Reap we were wowed by the small but beautiful airport (above). I mean, just look at that vaulted ceiling and lighting!

Then we vanned our way to Hotel de la Paix. Now, in a country where rooms can go for $5/night, we weren't sure whether spending many many multiples of that per night would be worth it. But Hotel de la Paix had come so highly recommended by so many people that we couldn't pass it up! And wow! RIGHT CHOICE!

Geeks We Love: Natali Del Conte From CNET

Welcome to the 2010 edition of our annual Geeks We Love series! As we count down to the holiday of amore, we're also giving some love to some of the most talented and adored geeks in the industry. This year, I thought I'd kick off the geek love-fest with a gal after my own heart: gadget geek Natali Del Conte!

When Natali isn't reporting for CNET's Loaded, she's covering the market and giving her tech-spert opinions on The CBS Early Show in NYC. Needless to say, this is one girl who's always on the move. But how does she keep it all together, and stay in touch with those who are most important? Well, with the help of tech of course. But Natali isn't all business, all the time. She's also down to earth, and totally relatable. Find out more about her in the interview below!

We know you from CNET, and CBS, but are there any other projects you’re working on now?

In addition to CBS, I do several speaking engagements. I am currently working with CEA to chair the 2010 CEA Line Shows in June here in New York. We are putting together a really fantastic lineup of speakers and panel discussions for the show and I'm really excited about that.

Were you always the tech diva in your house growing up?

Kind of. My sister didn't have to do the projects that I did. My dad would buy software and make me learn it on my Summer vacation. I had to print out reports on a dot matrix printer to prove to him that I was following his assignments. I didn't love it back then but I'm grateful for it now. These programs came on the big black floppy discs and the manuals were not written for pre-teen girls, let me tell you. But it got me where I am today so I can't complain. And what else was I going to do with my time? Ride bikes and play Nintendo? I did my share of that too.

In the past, I’ve heard you talk about your single-girl lifestyle - do you have any favorite geeky pick-up lines?

There is a lot of that on Twitter. I try not to solicit flirtations over Twitter because it just seems so self-absorbed. I see girls say things that they obviously know men are going to drool over and then take the bait and flirt with them back. I stay away from that. It is obnoxious. But no matter what I say there is going to be someone who finds a way to flirt over it. For example, I have really vivid dreams and I like to Tweet about them and I'll get responses like, "Well you were in my dreams last night, baby." It makes me laugh but I don't take it too seriously.

Do you have any dating advice for geeky single girls out there now?

Unfortunately no. It is hard to be a single geek. Just the other day I realized how much I judge people for the laptop that they pull out at airport security. A guy could look nice and cute but if he lays a big old clunker (or a small pink netbook) on the conveyor belt, his stock plummets. So sad. But we have the right to be picky, right?

What’s the worst tech faux pas you’ve ever experienced while on a date?

Hm. I've had a guy tell me, "You eat a lot and fast." I can't say I loved that. I've had another guy who yelled at the cab driver unnecessarily. The worst was a guy who kept telling the waitress how famous I am. First off, I am most certainly NOT famous and secondly, that was just aggravating. He proceeded to send links to my Web site and show to his brother with his BlackBerry from the dinner table just for bragging points. He was messaging things like, "Check out this chick that I'm out with." Please.

Do you think that tech brings couples closer together these days, or creates more of a distraction?

I definitely think it brings people together. Especially Google Calendar. It is the only way to get a man to remember what you've committed to together!

What is your favorite way to communicate - talk, text, or tweet?

I don't Tweet with the people that are close to me. Well, sometimes I do with my sister to get her to sign onto Google Video chat. But mostly it is text message and instant message. I also communicate with my significant other through Google Reader a lot. That is how we sent one another interesting articles that we want to discuss later. It's pretty nerdy.

Do you Google yourself? Why or why not?

Not that often. Mostly because the suggested search terms are not something I need to concern myself with. Do I really need to know that the number 4 suggested term for my name is "Natali Del Conte breasts"? I don't want that to go to my head at all and I don't want to get prissy about it. There is no good response to that so I just don't do it. Okay, well I just did it in response to this question. But I will try not to do it again for a long time. I'd say I do it about four times a year.

What will you be doing this Valentine’s Day?

I have no idea. I'm not really into romantic ritual. Ask me how I feel about weddings sometime. It is a pretty contrived holiday but I usually don't mind contrived customs if they involve food. So I suppose I'll find a way to get a good dinner out of it but otherwise, my expectations are low. I do have a segment planned for The CBS Early Show about holiday gadgets. I ordered a pink Sony Pocket Reader with some cheesy bodice rippers pre-downloaded and a pink iPod Nano with the inscription "You Rock My World." The Nano was my boyfriend's idea. He's clever!

Harry Bonds, Boogies and Rides Horseback in Barbados

Prince Harry had a busy weekend in Barbados, meeting local dignitaries at Grantley Adams Airport in Bridgetown on Friday and then on Saturday sharing cuddles with children at the Queen Elizabeth ll hospital. He met more children at a garden party at the Garrison Museum, where he tried out spicy food alongside Prince Seeiso of Lesotho. The pair changed in to Haiti We Care t-shirts at a concert at Farley Hill on Saturday night, and the Prince proved his dancing credentials by getting up on stage for some Calypso dancing, after challenging donors to phone in and raise 5,000 Barbados dollars (£1,560) at the televised fundraiser.

Come Sunday Harry took to horseback in Apes Hill to launch the Sentebale Polo Cup to help raise funds for Lesotho's vulnerable children. He met fellow redhead Cilla Black as well as Russ Abbot at the pre-match reception, and spoke about his hair colour in a recently unveiled portrait of him and brother William, saying: "I'm a little bit more ginger in there than I am in real life... and [Wills] got given more hair". Harry was thrown from his horse during the match but got back on his feet unhurt. I'm sure his girlfriend and new flatmate Chelsy Davy will kiss him better when he gets back home in time for yet more sporting occasions at the weekend.
