While it's true that airlines have recently expanded their food offerings, the airport still dominates the market when it comes to travel meals. But — like Party and I witnessed during last year's trip to Aspen — airport food often falls incredibly flat. During recent travels, I experienced something similar when I ordered what I expected to be a taco salad, only to be greeted by a heaping pile of white rice, stringy chicken, overcooked corn, and wilted cilantro.

I was at a New York airport recently when I came across these vending machines. Rather than vending typical fare like chips and sodas, these machines sold warmed-up hot dogs, fries, onion rings, and other prepared foods. I wasn't hungry (and I was about to miss my flight), so I didn't spring for them, but otherwise I might have.

When PartySugar and I attended the Food and Wine Classic in Aspen, we ended up changing flights around dinner time. Being a bit peckish, and always in the mood to eat, we headed straight for the airport restaurant to grab some food. When we got there I remembered a friend of mine who never eats in airports.

I'm not afraid to admit it, PartySugar and I actually chowed through this plate of nachos. It was late, we were waiting for a plane, and we were hungry. And as always, nachos sounded great.

Iron Chef Masaharu Morimoto's got a new project in the works. Yesterday the hospitality company Delaware North Cos announced a partnership with the sushi master, with plans to launch Skewers, a new fast-casual airport restaurant chain.
Although no sushi will be on the menu, the concept will offer travelers easily portable meals like soups and salads, as well as a variety of skewered meats and vegetables.

She is the guest editor of MSN's music channel on Monday, and she's spoken with them about her plans for holiday season. Look ma, no kids! Last weekend, mama got a break from pureed baby food, stinky diapers and bath time duty. The grandparents came to the rescue and watched my wee ones as I took off on a beach adventure with my hubby.
