Now that cooler temps are moving in, there's nothing like warming yourself up with a bowl of hot oatmeal. Full of whole grain fiber, this breakfast will keep you satisfied all morning. Buying plain oats is healthier than buying packets that are already sweetened, and less expensive too, but that doesn't mean you have to go without flavor.

Need a little extra fiber and protein? Then reach for some oats. You can make oatmeal, use them to make cookies, add them to smoothies to thicken them up, or grind them to make flour.

No Cal-USC tailgate is complete without a sweet treat and I like to serve cookies. Specifically, classic oatmeal raisin cookies — they're chewy, not too sweet, and scream Fall.
Cookies are also perfectly portable and can be made in advance, meaning they're ideal for a tailgate.

What makes each one distinctive? And do they all have the same nutritional value?

Because I had a coupon to try Jamba Juice's new oatmeal for a buck, and because Monday in San Francisco started with a serious chill, I decided to mix up my usual cold cereal routine and try this warm treat for a change.
Jamba has been advertising this organic oatmeal generously in its storefronts, and the photos of creamy oats topped with fruit enticed me. You can choose from apple-cinnamon, blueberry-blackberry, or banana, all enhanced with "brown sugar crumble."

When you're preparing for a day that will bring a strenuous workout or a busy morning with no time for a mid-morning snack, it's especially important to eat a filling breakfast. Oatmeal is great for these occasions, and stirring almond butter into your bowl is a delicious way to add a lot more filling protein, fiber, and flavor.
Almond butter is a healthy and tasty alternative to the old favorite, but currently controversial, peanut butter.

Its comforting, filling, and nutritious characteristics make it a desirable way to start my day. More than a simple and inexpensive meal, there are several other uses for oatmeal and Health magazine brings out the best in oatmeal with five attributes of the pantry staple.

Oatmeal sweaters used to remind me of hemp and granola, but consider me a changed woman. They have been revamped with a smashing array of cuts and textures. I love how these sweaters lend instant warmth to any ensemble.
