Favorite Gear of the Year: lululemon

When it comes to workout gear we all have our faves; though I suspect we are all a little more flexible about clothes than we are sneakers. This year Nike and lululemon were neck and neck, so I called it for lululemon.

I really like Nike's gear, but there's something about lululemon that just feels so right. They make the best sports bras for yoga and Pilates, and their pants are unbeatable for look, cut, and feel. The only downside is that their gear is pricey, but that could be manipulated into a motivational factor. Now if they would only get an online store . . .

Gear Review: Sports Bra for Less-Endowed Women

I've reviewed sports bras for the well-endowed ladies, but what about for those of us with a bit less va-va-voom?

I recently purchased the Lululemon Flow Y Bra II and I am in love with this top. This great little bra is the whole package. It provides good support, the mesh back insert provides maximum ventilation, and the racer back shape allows for full range of motion without irritation (i.e. no chafing). Not only did the bra pass the yoga test, it also passed the ultimate bounce test: running. The colors are super cute (mine is yellow with white polka dots) and it even comes with light removable padding, which keeps things discrete even when it's a tad "nippy" in the gym.

I've been wearing mine so much that I've gone back and bought a few more. At $42 it's a little steep, but a good sports bra can be hard to come by and this one is worth every single penny. Go try one on at a Lululemon store near you.

Get Motivated: Lululemon Manifesto

Lululemon, maker of my favorite Groove Pants, is making something else: motivation. User jesst_volb recently posted about Lululemon's manifesto and I love it! In fact I'm printing it out and putting it in my fitness journal for a little last minute motivation. A few of my favorites from the manifesto are:

Observe a plant before and after watering and relate these benefits to your body and brain.
SWEAT once a day to regenerate your skin.
What we do to the earth we do to ourselves.
A daily hit of athletic-induced endorphins gives you the power to make better decisions, helps you be at peace with yourself, and offsets stress.

Despite Controversy, Nike Is Best Brand of 2007

Despite some of us being upset by Nike's price tag and marketing choices, the majority of you voted Nike as your favorite brand of gear for 2007.

Shirt Sham: Lululemon’s VitaSea Is Seaweed-less

I must admit I am fascinated by green workout gear. Not the color green (although I actually just got an emerald green running skirt recently that I love), I am talking about sustainability. Clothing manufacturers are using all kinds of new fabrics, some made from bamboo for its natural anti-microbial properties plus sustainability.

Sometimes, these miracle fabrics are not all they are labeled to be. Lululemon has a line of clothes they call VitaSea, made with fabric containing seaweed – according to the clothing tags the fabric is 23% seaweed fiber. The fabric, they say, “releases marine amino acids, minerals and vitamins into the skin upon contact with moisture.”

The New York Times smelled something fishy, and after receiving a tip, decided to test the contents of the fabric. The lab found no real discernible chemical difference between the VitaSea shirt and a regular cotton shirt. Lululemon’s rebuttal: The fabric feels different. But that feeling is not going to provide the amino acids sweating in a VitaSea tank is supposed to provide. Before you get all up in arms, TreeHugger would like to point out they believe the science and research behind the NYT's testing is sub par. Seacal, the fabric used in lululemon's VitaSea products previously had been certified to contain 5% seaweed fiber. It does seem though that lululemon didn't really do their research either.

Did lululemon hurt anyone? No, but it just seems like they should research their fabrics more thoroughly. And, if the fabric feels good and the clothes are functional, attractive and sell themselves, why make false claims?

John Mayer and his new super cute girlfriend, Minka Kelly, have been spotted getting into all sorts of things lately. However, none makes my heart go pitter-patter as much as seeing the two of them working out together. How cute are they?!

Fit Find Faves: Think Pink

I was never much into the color pink until I had 2 daughters! Now I love the color and it looks like Sugar users do too. Here's a few truly pink, truly fit items Sugar users have bookmarked as Fit Finds.

AngelGrl135 bookmarked these pink sneaks by Nike and says "Shox are the perfect running shoe." It looks like LegalEaglet and ina717 both appreciate the unique style of lululemon workout wear.

I had never seen pink boxing gloves until kiwitwist found them. Now that is one sure fire way to fight like a girl. irishchic33 bookmarked a pink heart rate monitor. The hot pink capris that olliecat added to the Fit Finds are truly hot!

I am always on the lookout for cute and practical workout wear. One of my faves is lululemon. Right now I am really into all of their tops.

The tops are very colorful and flattering. Plus, they're great for yoga, Pilates, dance, going to the gym, biking - whatever you do to move your body. They are great for almost every activity under the sun.

You don't have to worry about your skin getting irritated of chafed, since these tops have flat seams. Plus they're made from comfortable material that wicks away moisture so you stay dry.

They have so many variations: some have shelf bras, some have removable cups, and some straps are adjustable. Basically with this many different kinds you are bound to find a top that offers the look, coverage and support you need.
