Gear Review: Yogoco Mat Bag

Whether you practice yoga or Pilates or just like to bring a mat to the gym to do toning exercises, I found a wonderful new bag made by Yogoco. It's my new favorite thing for so many reasons. For one, it's eco-friendly, made from pre-consumer T-shirts scraps. It's also extremely lightweight and has two 26-inch long compartments: one for a mat (it even fits my huge Manduka mat) and one for all the extra stuff like your towel, clothes, water bottle, snacks, or whatever. Mesh material on the sides lets your sweaty things air out, and the inside lining is wipeable. In the smaller zipper compartment, there's another pocket to hold important stuff like your keys, cell phone, or gym membership card.

Now I don't need to use my ugly oversize gym bag as often. With this Yogoco bag, everything is safely stored in its neat little compartment, which makes it easier to carry all my stuff and a cinch to find what I need. I have the Buddha's Garden design ($89), but these bags come in five other fun colors. To see them,

Get in Gear: FitFlops Booties

FitFlops have been all the rage since they made their debut stateside, but what's a leg-toning gal supposed to do when she has to tuck her sandals away for the Winter?

Enter the FitFlop Billow. These little cozy booties not only use the same technology as the beloved FitFlops, but they're super comfortable too. At $125, they don't come cheap, but if you've already fallen in love with their Summer counterparts, then dropping that much dough may not feel like a big splurge, but a necessity. You can pre-order them now at Blissworld.com. If you're still not sold on whether these shoes work their magic — or your legs, for that matter — then it might not be worth the dough. I think the thongs are comfy, but not sure how much they toned my legs.

Get in Gear: Nike Zoom Victory+

It seems that everyone has Olympic fever these days, and I am loving it because people are motivated to get moving more than ever.

What better motivation than a brand new pair of Olympic-inspired sneakers? This Nike Zoom Victory+ ($103) shoe is inspired by the 2008 Olympic track running spike, but it's made for running on any surface. It treats your feet to a hefty amount of cushioning while still being lightweight. The shoes make achieving your goal, be it a gold medal or a 5K, that much more attainable.

Want them for free? Well, I am giving away two $150 gift cards to Road Runner Sports (where these kicks are sold). Entering to win one is super easy, just take the Olympic-themed quiz and voila, you're in. Good luck and happy running!

Get in Gear: Yakkay Bike Helmets

Many folks still, though it boggles my mind as to why, refuse to wear a helmet when biking. Some are worried about messing up their hair on not looking like a fashionista while wearing a helmet. As my mom, and former R.N., always said, "A helmet is a lot more fashionable than a halo brace." But I digress . . .

For those looking for a helmet that's a little cooler, and pricier, than your average helmet try on a Yakkay for size. These smart helmets are basically a very simple, but safe, helmet fitted with a cool hat-like cover. Unfortunately the helmets seem to be only available overseas at the moment, but you can order one online for about $177 (or 120 Euros) plus shipping. I'm loving them — but my Specialized helmet seems to be working just fine for me right now. Maybe when they make their way stateside I'll invest in one for my days when I am cruising around town rather than working to get my heart rate up. What do you think?

Get in Gear: New Balance Waterproof Sneakers

Now that the weather is warming up, I bet a lot of you are getting psyched to walk and run outside. The problem is most of the country is dealing with melting snow, so it's still pretty wet outside. It's no fun to run outside and get soggy feet, so if you're looking for a pair of waterproof sneaks, check out these from New Balance ($120).

To hear more about them <!-break-->

I think these are super cute, but what tops their good looks is they are made from Gore-Tex so they're completely waterproof. Your feet will stay dry and if you happen to get them covered in mud, they'll clean up easily. Plus, Gore-Tex breathes. And check out the soles. They're perfect for running around on uneven terrain. Plus the midsole is made out of shock absorbing material, so if you're into trail running, these will protect your feet from sharp rocks and sticks. In case you were wondering, the New Balance 1110 only come in the blue and gray color that's shown.

Get in Gear: Nike + SportBand

I've made no secret of my love for the Nike + iPod Sports Kit, which lets you track your time, distance, pace, and calories using your Apple iPod and special shoe sensors. So I'm psyched that Nike is expanding the line later this month, with a new product called the Nike+ SportBand.

According to Gizmodo, the gadget could be released as early as next week. This wearable wristband lets you circumvent the iPod if you want, because it communicates directly with your shoe sensors. Your progress is displayed on a screen on the wristband rather than on the iPod, which is ideal for people who don't like to run with iPods but still want to track calories burned and other data. The gadget also has a USB connection, so you can upload your data to the Nike website to see how far you've come.

Have you tried out the Nike + Sports Kit yet? If so — or even if not — would you use this product?

Source

Get in Gear: Bolle Tennis Sunglasses

Most of you agreed with me that blue-tinted "weight-loss" sunglasses seem ridiculous. But colored lenses can be beneficial, and I'm not just talking about rose-colored glasses. Bolle makes a very cool line of Competivision Sunglasses for tennis, which use blue-tinted lenses to mute every color but yellow. That way, everything looks somewhat duller except the bright yellow of the tennis ball, allowing you to keep your eye on it better.

I don't personally own a pair of these, but I have tried out a friend's pair, and I can say that they really work, especially when it's really bright or sort of hazy outside. The lenses are available for a number of different frame styles, which range in price from about $55 to $90. Bolle also makes a similar product for golfing. If you've tried either of these, I'd love to know what you thought.

Spring weather makes me want to go for a long hike with the entire family, and that means our dog, Bonnie, comes along, too. It's important to pack water, snacks, and extra layers for everyone, but since my daughters are young, they get tired carrying anything for too long. So I've been thinking about putting Bonnie to work. Check out this Kelty Chuck Wagon Dog Pack (medium, $50).

I so want this pack, since I have other packs (you know the ones for humans) made by Kelty and love them. They're well made, not too expensive, and really durable. This pack is great for dogs weighing 35 to 65 pounds, with a girth of 22 to 35 inches. The zippered compartments allow Bonnie to help carry the stuff we need, and she can even carry food and water for herself. I love that it's bright red, so we'll be able to see her easily in the woods. Depending on the size of your pooch, they also make this pack in small ($45) and large ($55).

Get in Gear: HoopGirl Hula Hoop

My doorbell rang the other day and when I answered it, my postman had left this package (pictured on left) leaning against my door. I laughed out loud and thought, "Hmm. I wonder what that could be. I was so excited that my hoop had arrived, since practicing my moves along with the HoopDance DVD using a dinky hoop I found at a toy store wasn't quite cutting it.

HoopGirl, the woman who made the DVD, says that using an adult-sized slightly weighted hoop makes regular hooping and doing tricks much easier. The small amount of weight keeps the hoop spinning longer, so it's better for working out (the more time you're actually hooping, the more you can tone your muscles and burn calories).

You can order high quality hoops on the website that range in price from $29.99 to $54.99. The less expensive hoops are for people who want a basic hoop. The pricier hoops have more tape on them, which adds more weight so these are better for working out. The most expensive hoop they sell can collapse down in case you want to travel with it.

Want to see what the hoops really look like? Then

Get in Gear: Nathan Speed 4 Water Holder

If you're into long-distance running or training for a marathon it's imperative to stay hydrated. Carrying around a huge water bottle can be annoying though, and most hydration waistpacks only hold 20 ounces of water or less.

Check out this Nathan Speed 4 Nutrition Speedbelt ($34.95). It's a long name for a holder that you wear around your waist that houses four, 10-ounce bottles. That means you get 40 ounces of water total, and because the bottles are spread out, you won't feel uneven pressure or strain on your back or hips. The bottles can also be filled up with special electrolyte drinks or carb gels, since long-distance runners need extra calories in order to keep running. I love that you can easily pull the bottles out with no problem, and they're curved so they fit in one hand comfortably. There's also a little pocket in the front for small essentials. The waistbelt is adjustable so you can get a snug fit without it bopping up and down as you run. Order it from teamestrogen.com.

Get in Gear: North Face Lumbar Pack

When I go out for a bike ride or short hike, the Mountainsmith Lumbar Pack is way too big. On the other hand, the Mountainsmith Dart is way too small. So I found this one made by The North Face that's just right.

This Steep Tech Lumbar pack ($59) has a bunch of pockets to keep all your little stuff safe. There's a place for your water bottle and a big pocket next to that for food, a windbreaker, or whatever else you may need. I love the zippered pockets on the hip belt, so you have easy access to tissues, your phone, or an energy bar. If you like to listen to music while working out, the front pocket has a place for your earphone wire. The waist straps are thick and adjustable so you can get a snug and comfy fit around your waist. It comes in black, red, and root green and you can order it from altrec.com.

Get in Gear: Nike Running Wallet/Phone Case

If you're like me, when you go for a quick run or bike ride, you don't need to carry anything big like a lumbar pack, but you still want to bring along important things like money, keys, an ID, tissues, or your cell phone. Check out this Nike Running Arm Wallet/Phone Case ($10). It'll keep little things safe so you don't have to carry them in your hand or deal with them bouncing up and down in your pocket (or worry about them falling out). This little pack can wrap around your arm or wrist, and since it's got a velcro snap, it'll fit snugly so you can slip it on and forget about it. I also like that the opening is secured with velcro, so you can access your stuff easily. Not bad for $10. Buy one here.

Get in Gear: Aqua Power Ankle Weights

Swimming is one of the greatest types of cardio because you can work your body, but you never have to worry about getting too hot. After doing laps, while my muscles are warmed up, I like to do some strength training moves while I'm still in the pool. If you strap on these Aqua Power Ankle Swim Weights ($38.33), you can feel an amazing burn with the water exercises you already do, like leg lifts, walking in the water, or you can hold onto the edge of the pool and kick. They're great if you like running on the bottom of the pool, or deep water running.

The cool thing about these weights is that they come with five, one pound weights for each ankle, so you can add or remove as many as you want, and change them easily between exercises. They're great if you're bored in the pool and want to try something new. You'll strengthen and tone your muscles and make an already tough workout a little bit more challenging.

Get in Gear: Camelbak StoAway

Even though it's Winter, if you're getting out and active in the snow you still need to drink water. Since you are already loaded down with gear like poles, a regular water bottle is way too bulky, and plus it might freeze.
That is why this StoAway ($35) by Camelbak is great. The super durable plastic bag inside that holds 70 ounces of water, and the external circular purple cap makes it easy to refill. Since it's so slim, it can fit inside your existing backpack with all your other necessities. The drinking tube allows you to access your water easily, so you're more likely to drink it and stay hydrated. All you do is bite the end and suck out the water just like a straw. The bag, tube and bite valve are all insulated, which prevents your water from turning to ice. The StoAway is not just for Winter; it keep your water cool in the Summer. Sounds like a good deal to me.

Work Your Balance With Vew-Do Balance Boards

I am always searching for balance in my life, both literally and figuratively. Standing on an unstable surface is one of the best ways to heighten your sense of balance. Being off kilter will certainly help you hone your skills and if you do it on a board you will not only work your core, but also prepare yourself for board sports of all kinds.

I stepped on a The Flow ($100) made by Vew-Do Balance Boards recently and was plunged into the unstable world of a rocker board combined with a roller. I have used rocker boards with Pilates, but this board was much more fun and I don't just think it is the colorful graphics. Time flies when you are on the board; my first 15 minutes felt more like two. The balance board worked not only my ankles but my abs too. The board, about the size of a skateboard has a metal track on the bottom. The track fits onto a cylinder (aka a "rock"), so you stand on the board and rock side to side as you perfect your balance. It is designed for "toe-heel" action (whatever that means), but I just tried to keep upright, which is much easier on thin carpeting than hardwood floors. Once you can stand on the board you can begin to add in other fitness elements. Me? I really only progressed to squatting a bit while standing on the board.

To see what the board looks like in action, just

Figuring out how to work strength training into your workout routine, or even your life, can be a challenge. In yesterday's poll on weight lifting , a few of you commented that you find the weight rooms at your gyms intimidating. I found this Strength Training Deck ($12.95) to act as your cheat sheet and jump start your strength training program. If you are new to strength training, these 52 exercises, one per card, can help you learn the ins and outs of many muscle building moves in the privacy of your home. You can read up on the moves, which are explained in a straightforward manner, and try them at the gym. Since it is strength training, props are involved: medicine balls, physio balls, hand weights, and exercise bands. If you have none of these and are working out at home, you can always substitute canned goods for hand weights and heavy pillows for medicine balls.

To create a diversified workout, you can mix and match body parts and just work your legs, or find cards for different areas to get a full workout. I also dig the Pilates Deck and Fit Deck, followed up by a nice massage using the Massage Deck. Yep, pick a card any card, and that card will get you moving!

Buy the Strength Training Deck here.

Get in Gear: Garmin Forerunner 405 Watch

I like a multifunctioning gadget. Take the iPhone for instance. It gives you phone, email, music, and Internet all in one. Runners no longer need to be envious of others' tech-savvy gadgets, the new Garmin watch could definitely compete with the iPhone when it comes to multifunctioning. The Forerunner 405 ($318.74) is a watch that not only monitors your heart rate and tracks your time, distance, pace, and calories burned, but it has a GPS! And all that data fits around your wrist.

Get in Gear: Newton Running Shoes

Looking for a cool new pair of sneakers to get you moving well into 2008?

Newton Running shoes were developed to make your feet think they're barefoot and therefore increase your performance. The sole of the Newton mimics your own, allowing your foot to move freely and promote a forefoot impact that many running experts feel is a safer way to run. This happens because the shoes have protruding treads under the balls of your feet that catch first as your foot lands while running, which means you should land and push off from the designed spot. Fancy new shoes don't come cheap however, one pair starts at $155 — buyer beware as these sneaks can feel a little awkward at first and may take some time to get used to. Check them out and buy them online here.

I so wonder how these compare with MBTs, which are also designed to mimic barefoot motion. MBTs are not for running though; so let me know in the comments section below if you have tried these Newton shoes.

Get in Gear: Yaktrax

Last year I discovered something that has changed the way I walk during the winter so I wanted to be sure that I shared my discovery once again.

Walking during the winter can be a lot more challenging due to the inclement weather (snow, ice, etc.) that is likely to occur. If you're not a serious winter walker, then you're not going to want to invest in a pair of heavy duty snow shoes. However, you may want to consider getting YakTrax ($20), a lightweight traction device for your shoes. All you have to do is slip the rubber gripper on your shoe and it provides the stability. To get yourself a pair, buy them here.

Get in Gear: Reebok Adjustable Weights

While I love having gym equipment at home, my one complaint is all the space it takes up. Since I don't have a designated fitness room, I try to buy things that can be easily hidden.

So instead of having several pairs of bulky hand-weights, think about investing in adjustable dumbbells. The Speed Pac ($46) gives you an entire set of weights in one, all you have to do is select your desired weight and then lift. You can choose between 2.5 lbs to 12.5 lbs of weight on each for a maximum of 25 lbs. total resistance. That is a lot of variation for under 50 bucks. Buy a set here.

Get in Gear: AirDrives Earphones

I have a love/hate relationship with earbuds. I love that I can listen to my music as loud as I want while working out, but I hate how uncomfortable those little buds can be. I'm always futzing with them to get the speaker part to fit inside my ear just right, and if they don't have that piece that hooks around the back of my ear, they end up falling out when I move. I also feel like regular earbuds are unsafe because when they're inside my ears, I can't hear anything else but my music.

Well I just discovered AirDrives Earphones ($99.99) that work differently than regular earphones. Instead of the little round speakers going inside your ear, they sit right outside the opening of your ear. That means you can listen to your music, but also have full awareness of the sounds around you. Making them a safer option for your outside runs.

They are C-shaped, so they fit securely behind your ear. They're completely waterproof so you can sweat all you want or exercise in the rain. Order them from Best Buy.

Get in Gear: Gaiam's Everything Fits Gym Bag

I always have gym bag issues. It's just so hard to find a perfect size bag that will hold everything you need without breaking your back.

Gaiam's Everything Fits Gym Bag ($50) may be the answer. This cute bag features a roomy interior with a zippered pocket, an elastic pocket, and a key tether. The vented outside compartment can hold shoes, sweaty clothes or a wet towel. Also includes an easy-reach outside pocket for water bottle, inside and outside holsters for cell phone and MP3 player, and bottom adjustable straps for your yoga mat. What's more? It's made from 100% recycled polyester. It totally reminds me of the adorable Puddle Jumper Bag I fell in love with last year but is about $20 cheaper. Buy the Everything Fits Gym Bag here.

Get in Gear: Affirm Water Bottles

It's been made pretty clear that a disposable plastic bottle is a monstrosity for the environment, so I am always on the lookout for a personal water bottle that is reusable.

I personally love drinking from a stainless steel bottle because of how lightweight they are, but my Sigg set me back a few pennies. Another great stainless steel water bottle option is Affirm Water. These bottles are durable, reusable, lightweight, and fit in most bike bottle holders and car cup holders. Starting at $11, it's nice knowing your water bottle won't set you back too much. What's more? Affirm Water is an all women-owned company. Buy one here.

Get in Gear: Brooks Pulse Lite Gloves

I have the hardest time finding the perfect pair of gloves to wear for my exercises outdoors because I want something warm, but not overly bulky. Brooks Pulse Lite Gloves ($20) are the perfect solution. They are a soft, lightweight, breathable glove ideal for chilly runs. They'll keep your hands dry and warm, but you won't feel like you're wearing miniovens on your hands.

Take care of your teeth while on the road (or backpacking) with this two-in-one Travel Toothbrush ($19.95) by Sahalie.

The handle hides a leak-proof, refillable toothpaste dispenser — talk about a tidy space saver. Simply twist the end of the handle and the bristles fill with toothpaste and you are ready to brush your pearly whites. You fill the handle with a vacuum-style cartridge that attaches to your toothpaste tube for easy, mess-free refilling. All this plus one replacement toothbrush head. The pen cap style lid keeps the brush head clean and germ free.

I think this would be a great addition to any purse or a desk drawer. The convenience of being able to brush anytime, anywhere is more than handy; it's good hygiene. My dentist will love this one. Buy it here.

Get in Gear: Reebok Travel Trainers

The most annoying part about working out while traveling is lugging around all my workout gear. My running sneakers in particular take up a good bit of valuable real estate in my suitcase.

The Travel Trainer 5 Fitness Shoe ($79.99) by Reebok is a packable sneaker that allows you to take a sneaker along, while leaving the bulk behind. The shoe is made from breathable mesh and flexible synthetic upper in a technical athletic shoe style, with toe wrap over detail. There is a full lace up front, with quick pull lace loops. The best part? Tongue and heel snaps join to flatten shoe for packing. (Packing strap included.) While the Travel Trainer is not a shoe I would workout in daily, it's definitely a great option when traveling.

Buy them here.

Get Your Butt in Gear: ToughGirl Skirt by SkirtSports

If you fell in love with running skirts this summer and are pining to run like a girl even though it is too cold to show off you gams, I think I have found a solution. The ToughGirl Skirt ($85) by SkirtSports!

The ToughGirl combines running tights with a cute short skirt for all-in-one, one-of-kind running bottoms. And cover your bottom it will. The skirt strategically covers you in all the right places and the leggings, with slight boot cut, keep you warm. The fabric, Dupont Supplex, feels divine and you might just find yourself lounging in your ToughGirl skirt since it is so dang comfy. But don't forget this skirt and pants combo (does that make it a skant instead of a skort?) is made for action. It has two pockets hidden under the skirt for you to slip your keys, your iPod, or ID. So good to know that you can run like a girl in winter, too!

The ToughGirl comes in either pink or black, and you can buy them directly from SkirtSports.

To see the ToughGirl in black and some alternate angles just

Get in Gear: Lobz Audio Ear Warmers

On my recent chilly jogs with my husband, I have been finding that my little ears ache due to the wind and cold.

One solution I am considering is these Lobz Audio Ear Warmers ($21.00) that allow you listen to tunes and protect your ears from wind and cold. How cool is that? No pun intended. The removable stretch fleece moisture management system provides wicking, which means your ears will stay dry. They'd also be great for anyone who likes to listen to music while doing snow sports too. Buy them here.

Fit's Tip: If you're exercising alone, be sure to keep the music at a low volume so you are able to still hear what is going on around you. My husband and I take turns at who gets to listen to music so at least one of us is not distracted with the music.

Get Your Butt in Gear: New Balance Bamboo Surplice Ballet Top

What woman doesn't occasionally want to channel her inner ballerina? It is an easy thing to do wearing this Ballet Neck Line Top by New Balance.

Not only does this top have a graceful and lovely neckline, the fabric contains 70 percent bamboo! The natural fibers of bamboo manage odor and moisture. I'd wear it to Pilates or Yoga until I warm up and can take off a layer. This top would work for a post workout grocery store run because it covers you up and keeps you comfy.

To see what other colors it comes in and where to find it just

Get in Gear: Camp Inn Hydr8r on Sale

As the weather has gotten a bit chillier I have started wearing thin gloves during my runs after work with my husband. It's been great except that the gloves have made it hard to keep a grip on my water bottle, and last night I dropped it about four times. So today I have decided I need a hydration pack, especially since I am the type of runner that needs to stay constantly hydrated while running.

On my hunt for a hydration pack, I came across the Camp Inn Hydr8r Hydration Pack, which to my delight was on sale for $9.93! I am thrilled because I am not yet sure how much I am going to love running with something on my back so I don't want to invest a lot of money on a product that may not be the right solution for me. This particular hydration pack holds 100 ounces (or just under three liters), which means it won't be too heavy when it's full. I love that it comes in a bunch of fun colors, which means now my only issue is deciding which color I want.

Get in Gear: Swiss Army S.Beat

I am all about multitasking, especially when it comes to gear. I like to keep my purse to a smaller size so being able to throw in a few all-in-one tools are a life, and back, saver.

That is why I am loving the Swiss Army S.Beat ($215) because not only does it have a handy dandy pair of little scissors, a nail file and a knife, but it also has an 1GB MP3 player! At risk of sounding like my mom on this one, the things they can do now-a-days are really amazing. What's more? It comes with headphones, a neck strap, a remote control (?), and an arm strap for jogging or hiking.
Get in Gear: Shuffle Sport Cap

I love my new iPod Shuffle. It's super small and lightweight, which makes it perfect for working out. The problem is that one way or another I drop it, a lot. I know it has a clip but somehow it gets caught up in my clothes and ends up getting flung a few feet, leaving me to retrieve it, hoping it still works.

I don't know if you have this issue, but I am thinking about getting a Sport Cap for iPod Shuffle ($16). I already love wearing hats when working out because they keep me warm along with keeping my short hair out of my face. This cap not only has a spot for your 2nd generation iPod shuffle, but it also has a pocket so you can keep your wires out of the way too. If you don't love pink, it also comes in white and black. (Don't get freaked out by the pinwheel looking thing that says iPod on the cap, that's just the tag.)

NekFIT iPod Holder: Cool or Not?

After looking at it though, I am not sure it would solve all my issues as much as create more problems. I don't know about you guys, but my neck gets pretty sweaty after I've ran a few miles so I am not sure if having a plastic contraption holding on for dear life to the back of it would be a happy solution for me. Besides, I've already lost one iPod to sweat, and I'm not about to lose another.

Get Your Butt in Gear: be present Simplicity Pant

Some days when I work out, I love to wear tight clothes. I can see my alignment and technique better, and it makes me feel feminine and sexy. Then there are other days when I want to be more comfortable in looser fitting clothes. If you can relate, check out the new Simplicity Pant made by be present.

I'm in love with this company's other gorgeous tops and bottoms because they fit well, and are made of stretchy material that wicks away sweat. These Simplicity pants ($49) are lightweight, soft, and extremely comfortable. I love practicing yoga in them (see me doing Warrior 1, above right), since they allow me to move freely and they also keep me dry.

They have a drawstring waist, no slits on the sides (like many of their other pant styles), and they have darted knees to make moving even easier. The cropped pant style and loose fit around the thighs and lower legs makes these wonderful for working out or lounging in. They come in black, burgundy, concord, red, and graphite.

Get in Gear: Pink Boxing Glove Keyring

I'll admit it, I'm not much of a boxer. I have dabbled in kick boxing a little, but I was never good with hitting other people, or even a lifeless punching bag for that matter. However since watching Hilary Swank kick butt in Million Dollar Baby, I have been totally impressed by how fit boxers can be.

Whether or not you're a boxer chick, you can still tell everyone you could kick butt (you know, if you really wanted to) with this adorable Everlast Pink Boxing Glove Keyring ($1.29). To me it says, "Yeah, I'm super fit and I like pink. Whatcha wanna make of it?" And for under two bucks, it's worth every penny.

Get in Gear: Trail Tracker Sport Pack

I'll be the first to admit that I am not a fan of fanny packs. However sometimes when exercising, I find them acceptable. Still not fashionable, but acceptable. Wearing one while dancing around at Disneyland, totally unacceptable.

As far as fanny packs go, this Sportline Trail Tracker Sport Pack ($20) is as functional and sporty as they come. Not only does it have an over-sized media pocket with integrated music port and internal iPod holder, but it also has a built in pedometer. What's more? It's reflective so <strike>everyone will know you're wearing a fanny pack</strike> cars will see you during your evening and early morning runs.

Get in Gear: Road ID

If you exercise outdoors, then you definitely should have your ID with you for the same reason we microchip our dogs. Accidents happen, and in those unfortunate situations you, like your K9 friend, may not be able to speak for yourself. That is where the Road ID comes in handy. You can wear your personal information on your wrist, shoe or ankle.

Road ID will take 6 lines of information, your name, contact information, and medical conditions and laser engrave them on a stainless steel plate that can be mounted on a wrist or ankle band, or a tag to be tied easily into your shoe laces. Most styles cost about $20, but that is a low price for peace of mind and to not have to drag your ID along when you run, hike or ride.

Order one directly from Road ID and don't skip the testimonials. They are fascinating and it is always great to read about other fitness fiends surviving accidents and mishaps that can accompany exercising on the road.

Fit's tip: If you started an outdoor exercise routine this summer, you should invest in one of these ID Bands, since daylight saving time is fast approaching and chances are high you will be exercising when it is still dark outside.

Wicking Socks All Active Women Need

Your feet take a lot of abuse from all the pounding, stomping, kicking and leaping you do. It is a fact that if you are on the move, your feet are too. This means they get hot. This means they get sweaty. All that extra moisture can cause some nasty blisters. Cotton socks stay wet, so you need socks made out of merino wool, which wicks. The wool pulls moisture away from your skin, keeping your feet dry and comfy.

Here are some of my favorites made by Darn Tough and Smartwool. You can choose the amount of thickness and cushion you need, and the height of sock. All the pairs come in some wonderful colors too, many more than the ones shown here.

Get in Gear: Twist-To-Fit In-Ear Sport Headphones

One of the biggest complaints about ear buds is that they fall out when running due to the combination of increased sweat, bouncing around and small ear holes (for some).

These headphones ($38.83) may be the perfect solution. The twist-to-fit design is supposed to ensure stability while you're out jogging. The two earpieces contain rubber stoppers that press against the outer ear to further enhance stability. What's more? A clip is included to hold the headphones to your clothes when they're not in use, which I really like. The downside is that currently they seem to only come in neon green.

Lace Up for a Cure: Vigor Jacket by New Balance

Fall has arrived and with it cooler temperatures (well at least in some parts of the country). For all of your outdoor workout activities, you are going to need a long-sleeve layer, and might I suggest this Vigor Jacket by New Balance.

The jacket is part of their Lace Up For A Cure clothing line created to support breast cancer awareness. Fifteen percent of the price of the jacket, and all items in the pink ribbon collection, will be donated to the great foundation Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

All that being said it should come as no surprise that the jacket sports the pink ribbon on the collar. Plus, it is made out of New Balance's patented Lightning Dry® fabric for effective moisture management. It also has side pockets, a feature I admire in any jacket. If black is not your thing, then the jacket is also available in Nomad (meaning brown). You can buy the Vigor jacket directly for$63.99 directly from Lace Up for A Cure.

It's being sold on the Breast Cancer Site Store, and for each bottle purchased, the organization will fund 1 percent of a mammogram for a woman who otherwise couldn't afford one.

The unique design is a multitude of small pink ribbons that make up one big pink ribbon, to symbolize how individuals can join together to make a difference.

This 28 oz. water bottle has a screw-on lid that won't leak, and it has indented textured finger holds for easy gripping. The wide-mouth makes it easy to clean with a sponge, or you can also put it in the dishwasher. When you buy this water bottle ($9.95) from the Breast Cancer Site Store, you can feel good about helping women get screened for breast cancer, and you'll also be helping the environment with this reusable bottle.

Get in Gear: Wrist Assured Gloves

We all love doing push-ups, right? However there are times when our wrists just don't agree with weight bearing exercise. There are wrist wedges you can use, or you can try these new Wrist Assured Gloves ($68).

The gloves are ergonomically designed to ease wrist pain. By raising the back of your hand up a bit to take pressure out of your wrist joints, the gloves help you by spreading some of the burden of supporting your body weight to your fingers. Essentially the gloves create a wearable wrist wedge. Pretty cool! The gel padding also cushions the hands and the suede palm provides traction too.

While they are a bit pricey, I think avoiding wrist pain while doing push-ups or holding a down dog for 20 breaths is priceless.

You can buy them directly from Joint Protection Products. The gloves are available in small, medium and large sizes and come with their own tote bag.

Get in Gear: Shock-Absorbing Hiking Poles

I went hiking this weekend up a trail named Hell's Brook. I learned the name after arriving at the trail head. If I had had that knowledge ahead of time, I would have known to bring along my hiking poles.

I'm liking these from REI called Traverse Shock Trekking Poles. They're only $79 for the pair, when others can run you almost $200 for just one.

What makes these poles so different? To find out
