You've made the switch to healthy cooking — olive oil instead of butter and whole grains instead of processed carbs — but you're not losing weight. Even if you're loading up on tons of healthy food choices, it won't matter if you are consuming tons of calories.
The best way to make sure you're eating appropriate serving sizes is to be scientific about it.

If you think about your weight loss goals as a series of small changes, the prospect of adding healthy habits to your life doesn't seem so daunting. Losing weight the healthy way takes time and commitment, since you shouldn't lose more than two pounds a week. The more slowly you lose the weight, the more likely you are to keep it off, and to do so you need to lead a healthy lifestyle.

You eat really well Monday through Friday, and once the weekend rolls around, you splurge a little (or a lot) to reward yourself for being so good all week. Eating the foods you crave is essential when it comes to eating healthy, but you don't want to overdo it on the weekends, undoing a week's hard work. According to a study in the International Journal of Obesity, those people who ate a consistent amount of calories all seven days of the week were 50 percent more likely to maintain their weight than those who followed strict diets only Monday through Friday.

A stress-free life is unfortunately just a fairy tale. Also unfortunate is the fact that chronic stress can lead to weight gain. This happens for a variety of reasons, one being that stress makes you hungry.

New research from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health confirms that what you drink is just as important as what you eat.

Some issues are black and white with carbs being a case in point. There are good carbs and bad carbs. Carbs low on the glycemic index (GI) are good and conversely those high on the scale aren't.

What with all the sitting around all day, snacking at your desk, office parties, ordering food as a group, and the baked goodies co-workers bring in, it's no wonder extra pounds start to creep onto the scale. So instead of getting fatter at your job, lose weight together by starting a Biggest Loser-style competition in your office.
