If you have an issue with regularity, then you can do all the cardio and crunches in the world, and you'll still have a little belly pouch. That's because constipation can cause bloating, which will make your belly appear slightly swollen. It's normal to have issues with going to the bathroom every so often, but if you suffer from constipation daily, it can make your middle wider than it needs to be.

When it comes to food, portion control is a struggle that prevents a lot of people from achieving a healthy weight. There are everyday visuals to use as an aid for measuring a proper portion, like your own hands, but some people require more straightforward guidelines.

Mothers take classes on breastfeeding and even meet with lactation consultants on a weekly basis, but those experts don't tell her that if she eats asparagus, she's going to smell it hours later in her son's diaper!
The other night I hesitated before taking a bite, but caved to my craving and ate a few of the tasty green spears. As expected I paid the price in my own way, but the next morning, I smelled the asparagus aftermath elsewhere.

There always seems to be speculation about how a certain celebrity has shed pounds, and the most recent target of the weight-loss rumorville is Lindsay Lohan. The starlet is no stranger to media commentary regarding her body, and the most recent accusation is that LL is on a mostly liquid diet that includes drinking three Red Bulls a day.
There are plenty of reasons for refraining from liquid diets, principally the fact that they can be dangerous due to their tendency to leave a dieter undernourished.

A vegetarian diet is chock-full of health benefits. It can help people lose weight, lower cholesterol, and lower blood pressure. It's tough for people to give up meat entirely though, so for beginner vegetarians who can't quite make the full switch, or those who like to eat meat every so often, there's the flexitarian diet.

Hi DrSugar,
I have a question that I'm hoping you could address in a post. I've read a couple comments that fruit should be limited or avoided due to its high sugar content.

Ignorance is bliss when it comes to some childhood habits like eating junk food. A chocolate bar tastes ten times better when you don't know how many calories it has or care. Kids pick their favorite flavor of ice cream based on the color or amount of bubble gum chunks it contains.

For years, weight loss experts have been weighing in on the most effective way to shed pounds, and a new study hopes to put the kibosh on all the banter about bulge. The largest-ever controlled study of weight loss methods came to a conclusion after two years, and the results speak for themselves: when it comes to losing weight, the diet you follow doesn't matter, but the amount of calories you consume does.
According to The New York Times, the New England Journal of Medicine study assigned 800 overweight adults one of four diets that cut 750 calories from their typical intake through different combinations of fat, carbohydrates, and protein.
