2009 was the year for home shopping. It felt as though every other story involved either QVC or HSN. Everyone from Isaac Mizrahi to Serena Williams, Rachel Zoe to Rami Kashou hooked up with one of these networks, bringing their delectable goodies to the masses.
When it comes to down-to-earth moms, there is no competition for Jennifer Garner. The jean-wearing, sneaker-loving, baby-slinging mama knows how to use Violet's bobby pins to her advantage when doing the preschool pickup. And when a run to the grocery is in her future, the dimpled mommy has no problem going au naturale and facing the paparazzi sans makeup.
Beauty, pharmaceuticals and cosmetology seemed to collide this decade with the invention of many new beauty treatments. Everything from highly concentrated serums, to lip plumpers, safe forms of botulism injections we've come to know as botox, makeup made from pure minerals, meat preservatives that can be used to make your skin look tan, at home teeth whiteners and laser hair removal have become accessible to us. This has certainly been a banner and exciting decade to be a beauty junkie!
Whether you love her or hate her, you have to admit, 2009 was Lady Gaga's year. Our Fabcon started the year off with fearless ensembles — mainly sans pants — and continued with Madonna-caliber fierceness. She even had the honor of meeting Queen Elizabeth II.
With her sensual style and approachable recipes, it's no surprise that you voted Giada de Laurentiis as your preferred female chef of 2009. She edged out other popular personality Ina Garten, taking 31 percent of the votes.
Considering that Giada at Home is one of the few Food Network shows we look forward to watching, Giada de Laurentiis has also earned a place in our hearts as the year's favored female chef.
While the Bugaboo still has a strong following, the Orbit Baby stroller swooped in and stole the prize as the favorite stroller of 2009! The system that morphs from a car seat into a buggy within seconds has won the hearts of many a mommy, especially some celebmamas. Though on the pricey side, Orbit Baby devotees brag about the usefulness of the entire package claiming it's worth every pretty penny.
