Is anyone else out there using Xylitol as a substitute for sugar? A cardiologist cookbook author suggested that I use it rather than a processed sugar substitute like Splenda - so I did and have never looked back! It tastes and measures exactly like sugar, but has virtually no glycemic index.

It's harvest time for apples and pears, and nothing says Autumn like warm crisp featuring both Fall fruits. Here is a variation of a recipe from RecipeZaar. The only thing "premium" about these strips is the caloric price you pay. Add a large fries and regular soda and this seemingly innocuous chicken meal tops out at 1,710 calories.

I hope everyone had a nice holiday. I had the honor of cooking dinner for a small group of four people. The meal was vegetarian (actually vegan, except for one dessert), mostly organic, with no added sugar and nothing refined.
