LAST summer, Lisa Clark, a management consultant from Los Angeles, spent about three weeks in Europe, touring Scotland by car, spending a weekend in Paris and biking in Tuscany. Though it wasn’t cheap (France and Italy cost roughly $4,300 alone) Ms. Clark made it work by using frequent flier miles to get there and by buying packaged tours to keep her expenses contained.

Mother knows best: "My daughter is living a true love story," Carla Bruni's mother, Marisa Borini, tells France's Le Parisien for its front page Sunday, about the ex-supermodel's relationship with French President Nicolas Sarkozy.
Adds the potential mother-in-law: "I think that she could very well end up with Nicolas."
Earlier this month, Borini told Italian news outlets that her daughter had received a marital proposal from Sarkozy – with a New Year's acceptance deadline.

Paris Hilton was on popular German variety show “Wetten, Das?” or “Wanna Bet?” this weekend. Overall she was rather boring, although she got the crowd laughing with a stupid comment that wasn’t meant to be a joke. Host Thomas Gottschalk made two cracks about her high intelligence and it didn’t seem like she understood that he was making fun of her.
