I hope everyone had a nice holiday. I had the honor of cooking dinner for a small group of four people. The meal was vegetarian (actually vegan, except for one dessert), mostly organic, with no added sugar and nothing refined.

EDIT: It would appear that my little cupcake madness has been popping up all over the net! That being said, there are comments and emails GALORE about them, 99% positive and the rest questions and critiques.
So here is my Edit.

Ok, so a lot of us inadvertantly mulch trees the wrong way. We tend to mound up the mulch around the base in a "volcano" shape, which the following article will explain is actually not good for the tree. Hope this helps some of you!!

Clean & Green
Here's a collection of my favorite natural cleaning formulas, concoctions
and witches brews. MOST are safe and nontoxic, with a few exceptions which are clearly noted.
Use the ingredients listed below when making your own alternative cleaners, most are
inexpensive and you probably already have many of them in your kitchen cupboards.

Here are a few August gardening tasks and projects that you can do to help keep your garden looking it's best for the rest of this season.
Watering the garden
Watering can be the biggest task this month particularity if the weather gets hot. Vegetable gardens, most flowering plants, and the lawn all need about one inch of water every week to keep them green and looking nice.

Not long ago I had an apple problem. Wavering in the produce section of a Manhattan grocery store, I was unable to decide between an organic apple and a nonorganic apple (which was labeled conventional, since that sounds better than "sprayed with pesticides that might kill you"). It shouldn't have been a tough choice--who wants to eat pesticide residue?--but the organic apples had been grown in California.

Okay I bookmarked this recipe (from the group The Dairy Free Diva Recipe Exchange) a long time ago and finally made it last night. No pictures - sorry.
It was so tasty and easy I thought I'd post it here and give it more exposure.

This article comes from Woman's Day Magazine and I thought it gave some pretty good advice.
Do spray the inside of the crock with a nonstick cooking spray before every recipe to prevent sticking and to make cleanup easier.
Do cut root vegetables into small cubes no larger than 1-inch squares to ensure they cook in about the same amount of time as the meat.
