Patients recently diagnosed with type 1diabetes who received transplants of their own immune stem cells were able to go without insulin injections for nearly five years after the procedure, scientists report today.

MILLER (NY POST)House Speaker Nancy Pelosi was right last week when she called her latest health-care-reform proposal a "his toric moment": After decades of life-saving and cost-cutting scientific innovations from drug and medical-device companies, the government is about to step in and stifle the R&D that is our best hope for improving health outcomes.

Pelosi's bill may cost pharmaceutical companies $150 billion over a decade -- nearly double the amount they conceded when they cut a White House-approved deal with Sen. LONDON – The IOC's pursuit of drug cheats from the Beijing Olympics paid off Tuesday with confirmation that six athletes turned up positive for a new blood-boosting substance in retests of samples from last year's games.
The International Olympic Committee said a total of seven positive tests involving six athletes came back positive for CERA, an advanced version of the endurance-enhancing hormone EPO.
The IOC did not name the athletes or sports involved, saying it was notifying the athletes through their national Olympic committees.
