Look for less: Jane Mineral Gel Eyeliner vs Other Gel Eyeliners

I've wanted to get a gel eyeliner since Bobbi Brown came out with one, as well as MAC's Fluidline and Stila's Smudgepots. Of course, there are more name brands that came out with gel eyeliners (see below). I really liked the idea of a longwearing (meltproof) liner. But, I was really put off by those prices.

Bobbi Brown's is $19.00
Calvin Klein's "Ultimate Edge Gel" is $16.00
MAC Fluidline's is $15.00
Makeup For Ever's Aqua Creamliner is $20.00
Prescriptive's Perfect Line Every Time is $17.50

Anyway, with me wanting to be a "Babe on a Budget", I kept looking. I went to my local Ulta and I went looking for bargains on their Clearance Sale. To my wonder, I saw a little box in the Jane Cosmetics "Mineral Makeup" display (not in the Clearance section).

It was this: "Jane Be Pure Mineral Gel Eyeliner". They had four shades: Black, Brown, Eggplant, a Navy blue. Ulta was selling them for $6 (plus tax). It is such a price break from the gel eyeliners I listed above! I found a jar impossible to resist!

So, I decided to risk the $6 on Dark Brown 01. It came in a sturdy glass jar with silver screw on cap. Also comes with its own eyeliner brush which is surprisingly really nice! It is sturdy, well made, no stray brush hairs going out any place, and applies a nice crisp line in a pretty idiot proof way.

The product is definitely a gel texture, gently pushing the brush into the product picks up a perfect amount of product. The color is indeed a nice rich brown, and was budge proof, doesn’t flake or rub away easily. It also dries pretty fast.

I tried it on today, and put it through "Hazardous Duty", with the nearly 100 degrees and humidity. It lasted all day! No melting! Hurray!

So, for $6, I got a great deal on a mineral gel eyeliner, a highly functional brush and a great product that definitely lives up to its expectations.

Additional Incidents Prompt Re-Announcement of Recall of Gel Candles Due to Fire Hazard

Note: This recall is an expansion of an earlier recall announced in February 2007.

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed.

Name of product: Gel Candles

Units: About 1,700

Manufacturer: M & A Global Technologies Inc., doing business as Spa at Home, of Tallahassee, Fla.

Hazard: The candles can have excessive flame height, posing a fire and burn hazard to consumers.

Incidents/Injuries: M & A Global Technologies has received four additional reports of higher than normal flames and flames coming in contact with nearby combustibles resulting in minor fires, smoke and soot damage. The company has also received one additional report of burn injuries to a consumer's hand.

Description: This recall involves Everlasting Jelly candles. Models include Champagne Glass with Heart, Model #502; Large Oval Bowl with Sand & Shells, Model #109-XL; Tumbler with Sand & Shells, Model #101-S; Round Shape with Curly Top and Red Roses, Model #506; Round Shape with Penguins, Model #604; Tumbler with Blue Roses & Leaves, Model #805-11; and Round Shape with Two Butterflies, Model #806-8. The candles were sold in clear glass containers of various sizes with a smaller glass of gel in the middle of the candle.

Sold at: Spa at Home stores and Spaathome.com nationwide from October 2003 through December2003 and October 2005 through December 2005 for between $9 and $50.

Manufactured in: United States

Remedy: Consumers should immediately stop using the candles and contact M & A Global Technologies for instructions on returning the product.

I just bought Bliss Lemon + Sage Soapy Sap Shower Gel + Bubbling Bath. I am very excited. I love Bliss products. And to imagine showering with lemon is very exciting. That should wake me up in the morning!! REVIEW: Depuffing Action Eye Gel

So, I've had a crazy week and gotten less sleep and puffier eyes than I'd like. I ordered BeneFit's BadGal Lash in blue last week (which I'll review some day) and got a sample of their De-puffing Action Eye Gel with it.

I gotta run, so I'll get right to the point. Buy it.

UPDATE: Ok, doing an actual review now. I'm not sure why this is called a gel, since it seems more like a light lotion to me. But, you take a tiny dab of this stuff and smooth it in under your eyes. Then, put your makeup right on over it.

I usually use Clinique All About Eyes during the day, and since this only goes on under your eyes, I still use the Clinique on my lids.

I feel like this "gel" diminished the tired puffiness under my eyes by the time I was done getting ready and out in the car! You only use a tiny bit of this, and I only need it now and then after too little sleep. So, the tube (which, by volume contains a little more than a bottle of High Beam) should last a good looooooong while.

P.S. BeneFit really needs to make a two-sided pencil with Mr. Frosty on one side and Eye Bright on the other.

Bobbi Brown gel eyeliner, awesome product!

I love to use eyeliners but in the Florida heat most of them run and smudge in a cpl of hours. I recently started wearing Bobbi Brown eyeliners and I must say they totally rock!
I first tested the product applying it right before going to bed, and the morning after it was still in place, like freshly applied. It stays put for hours, however it is easy to wash it out with any make up remover. I use Philosophy's Purity Make Simple.

Ignore the rollers hehehe I was going out with hubby. Only wearing Bobbi Brown gel eyeliner in Black Ink inside eyelid rims.

All made up and ready to go.

+ Lancome Hypnose mascara in black, Bare Escentuals foundation in Fairly Light as a spot concealer, Bobbi Brown blush in Blush, Estee Lauder Hydra Lustre Lipstick in Dune Rose and EL lipliner in Spice Writer.

La Bella Donna Co-Exist Gel Créme

I have tried so many creams for my face. And slowly but surely I have found some that are really great. I just ordered one from Avon.com for rejuvenation that I am excited to get. It also has spf so i won't burn my face or let it age fast. But Allure magazine has found a new cream that looks great. I won't be buying it anytime soon until I try my new face cream. But it is called La Bella Donna Co-Exist Gel Créme. Here is what Allure Magazine had to say about this product: "We love a gadget, a gimmick, a cute little tool. This time for skin care: We loaded up the mini spatula that comes with this cream and spread it on like paint on a canvas. Games aside, we soaked up antioxidants like green tea and vitamin A.

Epiduo Gel (week 1)

I've had a problem with acne for about a year now, so I finally dragged my butt to the dermatologist for some prescription medication. Surprisingly, my check up lasted only about ten minutes (a lot shorter than I expected). She gave me a prescription for Epiduo Gel. I've seen some Epiduo commercials and ads in magazines, so I was very eager to try it. The only downside, is that she said it will take a month before I start to see results. But, I'm still very excited to try it out and hopefully it works as well as its suppose to (fingers crossed!). Today is the third day I've used it and so far I haven't had any problems with overdrying on my skin, itching, or burning. I'll keep you posted about once a week to let you know how this gel works out for me!

Some things about Epiduo Gel:

It can dry up your skin a lot, so make sure to use moisturizer.
It contains benzoyl peroxide, which is a bleaching agent so when using on your chest or back, wear an old t-shirt.
Don't use any scrubs or harsh cleansers while using Epiduo. Just wash your face with a mild cleanser or soap once in the morning and once at night before applying the Epiduo gel.
And a reminder: this is a prescription, so you have to see a dermatologist.
