I was raised by parents who came through hard times from the war, so this was a value in our home.
Have a backup plan for leftover fruits and veggies.
If lunches don't use the leftovers, try to create
meals that do.

Eating breakfast regularly helps build healthy bodies.
Did you know that a smart breakfast that includes foods from all five food groups can supply ¼ of your child’s daily nutrient requirements? No wonder it’s regarded as the most important meal of the day.

In answer to Casa's Midday Muse I'd like to share photos of the bounty that is just starting to come in from our garden. Yes. It's a bit late.

In my baby steps I'm taking to a healthier and better life, I realize that I often let excuses get in the way. Time, money, work, and a wedding in less than 30 days are the main culprits as of late :-)
However, today I read an interesting article on Web MD, that gave the following tips to "Eating Healthy in an Imperfect World" and thought I'd share. They are as follows:

At the welcome back party I planned on YumSugar and threw on Saturday night I made a rustic red fruit tart for dessert. It was absolutely delicious and there was just enough for everyone to get a slice.
Red Fruit Tart
From Rachael Ray magazine
1 cup flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 stick (4 ounces) unsalted butter, chilled and cut into small pieces
Ice water
1 large egg, separated
1 1/4 pounds ripe plums (sliced), strawberries (halved) and cherries (halved)
Sugar, for sprinkling
1 tablespoon milk
2 tablespoons apricot jam, heated and strained
In a food processor, pulse the flour with the salt.

I found this 12 part series in Investor's Business Daily. I will start today by posting the first part, and I'll continue to post the remaining 11 parts; one each day. It is shocking to say the least, and I feel most people are unaware of these facts.

Perennials, annuals, and bulbs
Make sure that the canes of your climbing roses and other vining plants are securely fastened to their supports. Winter winds can whip and severely damage unprotected plants.
