Beginner Yoga Knees...OUCH

I just started a beginner yoga class and I am hooked. My problem is my knees have become bruised after the class...Does anybody know if anybody makes "yoga inspired" knee pads? And are knee pads a good idea at the beginning?

Corsets for beginners

These are instructions for a full chest/ribs/and stomach corset. This means that your whole entire top part of you, boobs on down just above your hips will be in a corset. Also, I am giving instructions that will have a tie in the back (tighten straps) and snaps or hooks in the front. I find these are the best kind for me, but you may be different.

You can find a really good corset for around $50.00. But always remember, just because you pay big bucks for one does not mean that it will be high quality, so I always suggest to actually physically see and feel the corset before buying over the Internet. Another good thing to keep in mind is to make sure that you will be able to handle whatever type of material that will be against your skin. A good one is cotton or polyester, but it you choose vinyl, you might really hold the sweat in. You will sweat in a corset. So if the store has a try on section, at least rub the material up against the chest area, it might be a little itchy at first since it has not been washed.

Next step would be to make sure the corset is going to be sturdy enough. You are going to be squeezing your body into it and then someone (you will be doing this later) will tighten it for you. So you do not want one that will end up just breaking. This is why a good polyester/leather string is a good choice. Also, do not buy corsets that come out of a bag. Not the one size fits all that are for "playtime" with your significant other. You need this corset to be strong, sturdy, and wearable.

Once you picked out your corset, or even tried one on in the store (a good idea is to bring a buddy to help you) so you can at least get an idea of whether it will fit you or not, take it home with you and prepare to get that thing on. For beginners, always have a buddy with you because if you never worn one you will have to work up to it.

I hand wash mine with VERY little soap and hot water. Just enough to clean it and then rinse. Make sure you do NOT submerge a corset in water. This can ruin one depending on the material. Now again this is for beginners. Once it has dried (air dry), start by pulling out the ropes (string) in the back, but just enough to loosen it and to be able to wrap it around your body and latch it. Now, here comes the fun part! Ideally, you want this corset to be as high as you can get it, breathing in a corset is NOT an option and if you think you have perfect posture now, wait until you have properly worn a corset!

Have your buddy begin to tighten the rope starting at the top until you tell him or her to stop. A good idea is to not overdo it because if you start to panic, trying to get out of the thing will not be pleasant at all, this is why latches in the front are a good thing for beginners, but they can get stuck. Continue having your buddy tighten the rope going down and pull out the excess slack. Once at the bottom have your buddy tie it in a nice boy or some kind of knot, whatever. If you have extra rope (string) left behind then simply tuck it in the back of your underwear, pants, or let it hand for now.

Start by trying to stay in the corset as long as you can to get use to it. Eventually when you feel comfortable enough, have a buddy help you tighten it even more. Let someone help you at first until you get the idea of how to get in and out of it yourself. If I have a choice, I will have someone help me. I can do it on my own, but it gets frustrating at times and I cannot pull it as tight.

When worn right, corsets are very beautiful! Not only will you look slimmer, you will have a great built in bra and back support.

Most importantly, have fun!

"Frugal beginners guide to going green."

Huddler's Green Home, found at Yahoo! Green, just posted a blog on how the cheapskates...cough, cough...I mean the frugal human beings can help save the our beautiful planet without a dent in the pocket.

AND thank God! Because if there's one thing I love hearing about being "green," it's how it won't cost you much!

Here are several of the tips:
1.
Do This: Keep up with car maintenance.
Conserve This: Gas
Costs...: Variable ($130 per 15,000 miles of driving with one air filter change, oil changes, and filling tires).
Saves...: Clean air filters can improve your mileage by as much as 7%. Using the wrong grade of oil can reduce your mileage by 1-2%. Properly inflated tires will improve gas mileage by 3%. That means, if you're driving a car that should get 25 MPG, and you're not taking care of it, you're really getting 22.25 mpg and therefore spending an extra $296.63 on gas (at $4/gallon) every 15,000 miles.
Saves In 5 Years: $1,186.52
ROI In 5 years: 228%

2.
Do This: Take extra weight in your car down (i.e., take off roof racks, bike racks, etc., when not in use). This saves 1-2% fuel efficiency per 100 lbs.
Conserve This: Gasoline
Costs...: $0
Saves...: $0.04-$0.07/gallon (or $31.20 per year if you use 10 gallons of gas a week).
Saves In 5 Years: $156
ROI In 5 years: N/A

3.
Do This: Lower your hot water heater thermostat to 120° F.
Conserve This: Energy
Costs...: $0
Saves...: 36 to $61 annually in standby heat losses and more than $400 in demand losses.
Saves In 5 Years: $2,242
ROI In 5 years: N/A

4.
Do This: Wash your clothes in cold water. This saves 80-90% of the energy used in washing.
Conserve This: Energy
Costs...: $0
Saves...: 10 to 20 cents per load which results in about $40 per year.
Saves In 5 Years: $200
ROI In 5 years: N/A

5.
Do This: Wash your clothes in cold water. This saves 80-90% of the energy used in washing.
Conserve This: Energy
Costs...: $0
Saves...: 10 to 20 cents per load which results in about $40 per year.
Saves In 5 Years: $200
ROI In 5 years: N/A

6.
Do This: Fix leaky faucets. One drip can waste 250 gallons of water a month, which translates to 3,000 gallons of wasted water annually.
Conserve This: Water
Costs...: $0 if you do it yourself, $50 if you call someone
Saves...: 8% of your water bill (around $38 per year).
Saves In 5 Years: $200
ROI In 5 years: 380% (if you call someone once in 5 years).

I have always really been interested in Yoga but have NEVER tried it. I really want to see what all the fuss is about! I would love to try some great relaxing/stretching yoga first before I got into the strength building kind. Anyone have tips on some positions or maybe a site that explains how to do it, or even some free videos before I go out and buy stuff? Is there some beginner stuff on fitsugar?

Can I learn yoga without taking a class?

I want to learn yoga for a long time and I feel that now it's the right time. And I read yoga is good for lower back pain which would be amazing for me, I'm 17 and if generally at the end of the day I can't handle the pain, I just go to bed, it's worst when I exercise or stand up for long times straight or walk too much. I eat healthy but I almost only exercise two times a week (in class). I'm going to the doctor in May to see what's wrong but if yoga can help me I'd love to see that happen!
The thing is I can't afford take a class and my question is can I learn yoga by myself? And if I can what should I know and I'd appreciate any tips (I do headstands easily and I'm a bit flexible)

Best Yoga DVD's for a beginner?

Hey!
So I'm just starting into the yoga scene. I've had a private lesson from one of my friends who is a yoga instructor and I LOVED it. I was wondering if you guys could suggest a good yoga DVD that I can start practicing with. I'm sort of intimidated by the thought of going to a class until I feel I have some clue as to what I am doing.

I figured this was the best place to get some feedback.

Thank you!!!
Deaf Yoga?

I just had a pretty random question...I'd like to start taking yoga classes at my school (we get free access to the gym they have there), and I know they teach yoga, but I was wondering how I could start Yoga classes if I"m not going to have an interpreter, but I'll be attending? Does anyone have any suggestions and/or ideas?

I can talk, but with a very heavy accent. (this might seem like a rude question, but I know people ask this, so no worries!) I tend to communicate better in handwriting or on 1-to-1 personal communication level for out of academic classes.
