Anxiety is a normal response to stress or danger. At times it is helpful because it can help prepare the body for action, and it can improve performance in a range of situations. Anxiety becomes a problem when it is experienced intensely and it persistently interferes with a person's daily life.

Anxiety is exactly what I have all day long on busy days, even when I have online calendars and alarms on my cell phone set to remind me. But now I have the application Anxiety, which feeds my need for to-do lists I can check off as I do them. I've always been a fairly high-strung person, but as I've gotten older my anxious tendencies have worsened. I get frequent panic attacks and worry about irrational things like having cancer (if I get a random headache I automatically think I have a tumor) or dying (I used to love flying and now I can't convince myself to get on a plane because it might crash). When I try to talk myself out of an attack I start to think I might be going crazy and will end up in a mental institution which, of course, only makes the panicking worse.
