Belmont Stakes winner Summer Bird followed in the footsteps of his sire Saturday afternoon at Saratoga Race Course as he splashed his way to an imposing 3½ length victory over longshot Hold Me Back in the 140th running of the Grade 1, $1 million Shadwell Travers Stakes.
The son of 2004 Belmont-Travers winner Birdstone, ridden by Hall of Famer Kent Desormeaux, took the lead with a quarter-mile to go and was never threatened as he edged clear through the stretch to add the “Mid-Summer Derby” to his victory over Dunkirk and Kentucky Derby winner Mine That Bird in the Belmont Stakes.
Summer Bird’s winning time for the 1¼ miles was 2:02.83 over a sloppy track.

I found this article at http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/books/booknews/6194031/The-Lost-Symbol-and-The-Da-Vinci-Code-author-Dan-Browns-20-worst-sentences.html. Pretty funny for grammar nerds like me. Enjoy!

Tomorrow is the 140th running of the Travers Stakes at Saratoga. The Travers Stakes is one of the oldest horseracing events - the first race was in 1864 and the field is limited to three-year-olds.
One of the most notable moments in Travers history is in 1962 when Jaipur beat Ridan by a nose bob and was considered a bit of an upset.

The other Bird has done it again, this time in the Travers Stakes.
Summer Bird splashed his way to a 3 1/2-length victory over long shot Hold Me Back on Saturday and added thoroughbred racing's Midsummer Derby to his Belmont Stakes victory over Kentucky Derby winner Mine That Bird two months ago.
After the Belmont, Summer Bird finished second to superstar filly Rachel Alexandra in the Haskell Invitational at Monmouth Park on Aug.

Superstar filly Rachel Alexandra will attempt to add another chapter to her already history-making 3-year-old campaign when she takes on older males in the Grade 1 Woodward at Saratoga on Sept. 5.
Trainer Steve Asmussen made the decision not to enter RA in the Travers Stakes tomorrow, so he could showcase her stablemate, Kensei who does have a good shot, but I'm looking at Warrior's Reward to win.

At first I didn't give much credence to the whole Twitter experience. It seemed to me nothing more than a Facebook status...which I could do from Facebook without having to go through all the sign-up stuff again. I still don't use it, but after the last 2-3 weeks, events like the 20th anniversary of Tiananmen Square and Iran's elections have caused me to reconsider.
