Reported cases of business fraud have risen by an astounding 450% during the first six months of 2009, according to the accountants BDO Stoy Hayward.
So far this year fraud has cost Scottish companies as much as £10m compared with just over £1.8m for the same period last year.The accountancy firm had predicted a rise in fraud because of the economic downturn, but the steep rate of increase has shocked even industry experts.
The level of recorded fraud only tells half the story, since a lot of fraudulent activity either goes unnoticed or companies avoid reporting it in order to avoid negative publicity.

WELLINGTON, New Zealand — A beverage company has asked a team to drill through Antarctica's ice for a lost cache of some vintage Scotch whisky that has been on the rocks since a century ago.
The drillers will be trying to reach two crates of McKinlay and Co. whisky that were shipped to the Antarctic by British polar explorer Sir Ernest Shackleton as part of his abandoned 1909 expedition.

I finally was able to see this film last week and was very impressed. Surprisingly, what impressed me the most was actually James McAvoy's performance. Gold price hits record high as dollar wanes Gold prices hit a record above 1,100 dollars on Monday with the dollar weakening after a pledge by G20 countries to keep economic recovery pumped up with easy money. In morning trading here, gold struck an all-time peak of 1,109.50 dollars an ounce as the euro rose to 1.50 dollars for the first time in two weeks. Gold "established itself above the psychological (1,100-dollar) level this morning as ministers at the weekend G20 meeting pledged to maintain their fiscal stimulus measures," said James Moore, an analyst at TheBullionDesk.com.
